Congratulations! 🎈🎉 👏🏾👏🏾 You will enjoy retirement, because you will control when you get up and what you choose to do on a daily basis! No more commute, office politics, emails, texts , deadlines, toxicity, gossip . Stress ect Just PEACE & FREEDOM! Enjoy your next chapter in life! 😄🙌🏾
11 days and counting to my retirement day! 54, single and ready!! I’m looking forward to settings my own schedule and do the things I actually LOVE to do! Your videos have been very helpful Julie. you’ve been a great inspiration to me, thank you!
I'm 59 days away from retiring (and they still haven't found my replacement yet; it seems no one wants to work the overnight shift). Once I walk out the door at 7am on November 3 it will be "Not My Problem Anymore".
I think one you mentioned really summed up why I now feel so disenchanted by work - change in the job. I used to enjoy my job but changes, and not for the better, over the past several years have drained and totally demotivated me. Maybe after 25 years I'm now being left behind but either way, at 60, I'm getting out in March with only a modest pension and I'm talking so much hope and inspiration from you and your videos😊
We took the advice about living where you need to walk a lot seriously and moved to a village in Switzerland. Yesterday we walked in the mountains, there were some incredible views of glaciers. Lunch was a sandwich sitting on a rock by a little lake where tadpoles were hatching into tiny frogs. That was close to perfect and I’m so lucky to be still able to do that at age 79.
I retired in July of 2020 at age 58. My wife retired in September of 2022 at age 58. She was an Rn and I was a "sales executive." She dealt with dialysis patients and clinics while I got on a plane every week and landed somewhere in North America. Since I retired, I have been on 2 planes, both on trips to Montana where we have a ranch. I haven't rented a car in 4 years. We get up at daylight because we live on a farm, and livestock needs attention. No stress. We just handle the morning chores and then do what we want for the next 10 hours before we do evening chores. We have virtually zero stress in our loves. We have 4 kids, so there will always be some drama to deal with, but that's just a part of being an adult. I am anti-social, so I rarely leave the farm. I have 4-5 friends that I communicate with almost daily, and we fish and hunt all year. My wife loves community, so she volunteers at a pregnancy crisis center, an animal rescue, and our church. Life is good.
I too was surprised that I didn’t miss my job. I left on a Friday at noon and I was so excited. I settled easily into retirement. I have time to easily schedule appointments, take long walks, read, visit. I don’t have to commute in bad weather, the list is endless.
I’m a retired teacher as well as of May 2022. I still sub now and then. Gotta be honest, it’s only now entering year THREE that it feels real, doable and relaxing! Nothing beats going grocery shopping when there’s hardly anyone there and the shelves are fully stocked (the little things in life, right??) 😎👍
lol. As teachers we tend to live in that 3 year cycle of getting g used to changes. 3 years to master a new curriculum. Three years to acclimate fully to a new grade level, etc.
Thank you for your uplifting messages each week. I relate to you so much and am truly grateful to have finally found you. Yes, I’m going to start answering "I'm living my best life" when people ask what I’m up to. It’s been six months since I retired, and every day I feel happy, grateful, and thankful to be able to live this life. I love that I can now walk my pups in the morning instead of dealing with a long commute. My shoulder no longer aches, and even my hearing in one ear has improved!
Another great clip Julie! I plan on being done with work by end of December. I’ll be just shy of 58. I just got off of 10 days of vacation and 3 days back has me wanting to just leave now! I’m ready for the golden years and doing whatever, whenever I want. I have enough to keep me busy and won’t rot in front of a TV on a couch. I had a 2 year break retiring from government 10 years ago and know what a great feeling it is. 8 years back at the grind and I’m exhausted. I’m looking forward to what is ahead!
I retired on disability years ago, I had no choice. But years after retirement I have seen some of my past self come visit. A day or so of sorta great energy are a blessing! I have lovely peaceful days and rest. I needed that rest. The good days I get sometimes would never have happened if I did not finally get the rest I needed all along. Medicine has come along and I have relief of some of my worst symptoms. Retirement was the best thing ever. Life is amazing now. I am grateful and happy to the bone.
I'm 53 and am planning on retiring at 55 with rental income being my main source. I plan on going back to church, foster kittens again, sleeping in, starting a legit garden, hanging out more with my daughters and grandson, traveling, etc. I just can't wait!!!
Thanks for sharing what your typical day looks like. As a single introvert, I often dream about what my retirement days will look like. I'm easily entertained and rarely bored, so I have a feeling I'll be just fine! :)
Love your videos. I look forward to watching them. I retired a couple years ago at age 60. I feel so blessed that I was able to do. It felt so weird not having to get up and go to work. It took me a while to adjust my brain. I had to reminded myself I didn’t have to get everything done by Sunday night. I’m single and living my happiest life. Thank you Jesus!
I needed this today. I’ve been pouring over numbers all day. I don’t know why I’m so worried about quitting. It seems like our cost are going up and up. There’s a part of me that knows they will go down when we close our business but I’m still scared.
I retired from teaching in May. I agree- it has changed so much in the last several years. I can echo much of this. I still sometimes feel self-pressured to be more productive. Your video was validating and freeing. Thank you.
I had my day off today from work, I went grocery shopping, had two appointments, it was so wonderful to just have somewhat unstructured day. I'm in my late 40s and would love to retire, but I live in a high cost area, and my kids are still in elementary school. I am saving a lot and planning my retirement. I can't wait to retire, so that I don't have to rush with everything.
I worked to live, not lived to work. Work was needed to build my pension pot, and feed myself. My pensions and savings support me, all I need. I can now do more church activity and hobbies. Sunday nights and Mondays are sooo sweet now. 🎉
Parents didn't help, expecting you to raise their child. Great you picked the time to get out. Glad your keeping up on you activities to do when you want yo do them. Walking is key!!!
I am so happy for you and glad you are enjoying your retirement! I enjoy your videos very much. I started at your first one and am working my way through from oldest to newest. Only one month left for me before early retirement! I can’t wait!
All those things you mentioned about how you felt the last two years before you retired is how I feel. I used to enjoy my work, but my company merged with another last year and it's not been the same. It's an incredibly stressful environment. The one thing I long to do and plan to do when I retire is sleep in! Just this morning, as I woke to get ready for work, I said to myself "I can't wait until I can sleep in". I really enjoyed this update and am so happy you are happy in retirement! PS. I just noticed I was unsubscribed! I've heard of this happening (YT unsubscribing users) but it's the first time it's happened to me. I just resubscribed. PSA to other YT users, please check and make sure you are still subscribed.
That's an awful feeling isn't it! I'm only sleeping about an hour later than I did when I was working, but waking up naturally after you've had enough sleep is THE BEST!! That's weird that you got unsubscribed. Thanks for sharing that! 😁
Your happiness is so encouraging! This is the reward after many years of hard work. All the things that make you happy are not materialistic and at the same time they are priceless!!! I have a similar outlook in what makes a beautiful day. Keep enjoying!!!
You are such an inspiration for me. I organized my finances after I started watching your videos, sold stocks, and bought some bonds yesterday. Working on the buckets😊 I am planning to retire fully in 3.5 years at age 62 and start collecting SS. I work 32 hours a week now. I am thinking of squeezing Bachata lessons and socials now, hoping I would have enough energy for that 😊. Already have yoga classes, swimming in the ocean, walking, hiking in the state park, gardening. So nice to see that you are happy. ❤Thank you!
Loving this video and hearing what you get up to everyday and how much you are enjoying retirement life-- very inspiring Julie thanks! Would love more videos like this about what you get up to everyday! :)
THIS IS THE LIFE I WANT! I have a retirement date that is soon, but I hesitate because if I do OMY, my financial picture changes dramatically (though, who knows the future!)
👍Beautiful content Julie You describe my retirement perfect! Retiring early was the best decision of my lifetime I wake up happy with purpose Life began in my 50's No more dreadful Sundays I love routine with a schedule I control my OWN time! Freedom & peace priceless! I paid my dues for 30 years Retire with a PLAN is essential Tomorrow is not promised Complete bliss! The stress lifted off mind blowing
I had a 4 day weekend and was just telling someone at the office how happy I was until last night when I started getting depressed at the thought of going back to work. Usually Sunday afternoon is tainted by work thoughts. I work in education as well and this year it seems to me that very few people are excited for the new school year. I am about a year away from Coast FIRE so Im just hanging in to build up the pension a bit more. Kudos to you for getting to your best life!
I work a whole lot but when I get home this time of year I work in the yard pulling weeds and mowing. In winter I am constantly cleaning the snow off my solar panels and back porch. It is technically work, but it is a happy time for me and also exercise. It’s my feeling of accomplishing something and that is good for the body and soul. Random acts of kindness, never forgetting I was a Boy Scout and remembering to think and act outside of my little bubble because sometimes an opportunity presents itself so I must be ready. Under 4 years to go now until retirement and I can’t wait. Thank you Julie and perhaps you can show off that gardening progress at some point. 👍🏻
You must have a lot of energy to do all that after work!! My son is an Eagle scout! 😁 I was just thinking about making a video of gardening and hiking and other things I do. ☺
@@HappyonMonday that would be very interesting and of course I will watch that. I was only in Boy Scouts for a couple years but you never forget. You are very proud of him I bet. 🌹👍🏻
Your experience has validated mine for me, as I had all of this happen when I retired. It's been 3 years and is still simply magical. I have never been this contented and happy and there is no boredom whatsoever. I can't see how I ever performed my job and its details are blissfully out of mind. My days and habits are very similar to what you have in this video. Thanks for sharing, Julie 💜
I’m happy on Monday also! Love your channel. So happy for you! I also have seen the blue zone documentary. I am learning to choose me now! I don’t have much of me to give away anymore. My perfect day is No Alarm Clock! And getting to choose how I spend my time. I walk between 2-4 miles and cook all of my meals most days. I also do my own yard work. Enjoy!
Thank you that's awesome! I got to that point where I didn't feel like I had much of me to give away either. I love walking, cooking my meals, and yard work too! 😁
Your video makes me want to retire even more! I am only 45, but I told my spouse recently I want to be done working in 10 years or less! I feel like it’s a stretch goal, but my hubby said he’s all for sooner rather than later. I am tired of all the work stress. I made a book list with a lot of the retirement books you recommended and I plan on reading lots in the upcoming weeks and months!! Thank you. 😊
I love your videos and ideas for retirement! I retired from teaching at the end of the school year in 2023 and had a year to figure out I just needed a little part time job to stay mentally healthy. I started a 20 hour a week front desk job that is pretty sweet. I feel like I have the best of both worlds.
For me yes, it’s getting older. But my job of 19 years has also become much more difficult for everyone, not just the over 50s. The expectation to work 50+ hours each week without end was definitely not a regular thing when I started. I love your videos. You give me hope!
I have worked for 40 years. Many of those years 2-3 jobs at a time. 80+ hours a week. I can count on one hand of those days I enjoyed being at work. I love my days off. I am close to retirement and can’t wait. Love your videos. ❤
Thanks for sharing this positive and uplifting video! I'm working towards early retirement in the next 3 years and can't wait to experience that chapter of my life 😊
My hubby and I live close to Tahoe. I took the day off and we did a nice hike. I love your happy channel. I am 2 years 11 months away from retiring from my state career. I’m so grateful and looking forward to doing something part time and being able to slow travel. You are so right about the stress we are under from jobs. Big hugs.
My parents were Broadway musicians in NYC. I grew up amongst the super famous, etc. One of the things I learned is I'm happy not being famous. I can travel anywhere I want, anytime I want, and Nobody Cares. I don't have paparazzi in my face. I spent two-plus weeks in the UK & Ireland (bucket list for genealogy!) in May/June and I'll be taking my middle boy to college in France via Germany this month. Travel is awesome; and once I retire (in four years, MAX) I Will Be UNSTOPPABLE! 😂
This video feels so relaxing. I’m lucky to have a job I really love and I know I can go part time or per Diem if I don’t want to fully retire. My goal in retirement is to get a dog and have the time to train it very well 😂
Your happiness adds something fabulous to the world. If we could all feel like this, what a different place it would be to walk out in the world knowing you're going to meet other happy people along the way. I look for this when I'm out and about. Little children especially are happy little beings and fun to interact with! Life is good!!
Education lost a great Teacher the day you retired Julie. Watching this video you made the right choice to retire when you did. The freedom to have the time to do all the things you mentioned is wonderful. You will have so many more beautiful memories. I’m going to share this video with a friend of mine who is retiring at 60 at the end of the year. You’re videos always make for a Happy Week
I'll be 39 in November but I am planning ahead. I love watching your videos. You're so informative and straight to the point. It gives me hope and the knowledge of what I can possibly expect in the future. I appreciate you ❤
We've been in school for 13 days and I've already been hit and spat on by a student, had a case of lice, Covid and strep and stung by a wasp. I watch your videos and can't wait to say I'm retiring from teaching...only 5 more years if I can last that long.
Another phenomenal video Julie! I really enjoy watching all of your videos. Do you think you were burned out often, especially toward the end of your retirement because you are an Introvert? I am a strong Introvert and I am ready at 53!
I recently sold one of my houses and paid off all of my debt. At this very moment I don't owe a single cent to anyone so I understand the sense of freedom you feel. I turned 60 a few weeks ago. Last week there was a blow up at work. I considered just not going back after working there 17 years. The stress is taking it's toll on me. I'm just afraid to do it. I have enough rental income to cover my expenses but I grew up very poor and I'm afraid of not having a paycheck rolling in. I am thinking I'll try to stick it out 2 years to save a bit more cash then I'll call it quits. Congratulations to you. I wish you many years of happy retirement spending quality time with your family.
That's awesome - you're debt free! It is really scary not knowing if you have enough money. You just have to keep planning and do what feels right for you! Thank you! 😁
Yes to everything you said! My list includes long distance motorcycle trips and camping along the way with my BFF who rides, too, or sometimes, going solo. I’ve only been able to ride short trips so far but retirement means I can take my time now.
Adore your choppy/unprofessional videos. Great summary, and will be joining you the end of this year. I'll hold you to that coffee tasting better thing....
As a burned out RN, this is the type of life I dream of. I'm 55 and cant wait to retire. I am hoping to by 60 but who knows....this economy is a killer (I live in Canada where the taxes alone will kill you). Glad you are enjoying your retirement.👍
Question: The retirement coaches I follow all recommend meeting w/a financial advisor (or 2 or 3) to ensure my plan will work. Did you meet w/any financial advisors? Sounds like you just educated yourself (which I am doing, too).
I have met with 3 different advisors. I did the initial free consultations. None of them were right for me. They all charged more than I wanted to pay. So far I am just educating myself. But I do think hiring a fee only financial planner is a good idea. I will probably do that in the future, I just haven't yet! 👍
Big question: did you get yourself a retirement present? And what is it? One of the best retirement presents I get myself was a new mattress. I got it on sale but I got the most expensive, comfortable mattress I could afford….its improved my sleep so much! Unbelievable!
@@HappyonMonday A good new mattress is a great thing. I’ve read you should replace your mattress every 10 years. My old one was older than that and had gotten so lumpy!
I hope when I retire I am as exuberant as you!😂
LOL That's a nice adjective! 😁
Today, I told my boss that “I’m retiring!”
Yay!! Congrats! 😃

@@ibenglish Yes I am very proud of him. ☺
This is the goal Julie for my husband and I! A few years left for us! So inspiring 😊
Awesome!! 😃
Yoga and meditation to start my day, makes it a good day. You are awesome
That's so great to hear that it's still magical after 3 years!! You are welcome! ☺
Great to hear something positive and hopeful for a change about retirement instead of doom gloom. Thank you
You're very welcome!! ☺
27 more days of work for me! retiring at 57 🎉Thanks for sharing your story 😊
That's amazing! You're almost there!! 😃
I am glad that things are working out so well for you. May you find decades of joyful life in the future.
Thank you!! I wish the same to you! ☺
It took me a long time to stop having work nightmares. My workplace was toxic
I really thought my dreams would continue but my brain just shut it off! 👍
I can certainly identify with that - a toxic work atmosphere just drains the life from you and it certainly has me, hence why I'm retiring March 1st
Thank you. 😊
10 years is a lot of time to plan and get ready! That's awesome!! 😁
I love your videos and ideas for retirement! I retired from teaching at the end of the school year in 2023 and had a year to figure out I just needed a little part time job to stay mentally healthy. I started a 20 hour a week front desk job that is pretty sweet. I feel like I have the best of both worlds.
That's awesome!! I'm glad you found a part time job that's perfect for you! ☺
For me yes, it’s getting older. But my job of 19 years has also become much more difficult for everyone, not just the over 50s. The expectation to work 50+ hours each week without end was definitely not a regular thing when I started. I love your videos. You give me hope!
Yes! The 50+ hours a week is just TOO MUCH! Thank you!! 🙂
Best part of retiring is everyday is the weekend ! Life is great! 😄🙌🏾
I agree 100%!! 😁
I love this video. Hopefully I can join you soon. I'm a 52 year old nyc teacher . I love all your videos and I can relate to you.
Thank you! I hope you can join me soon too! 😁
I have worked for 40 years. Many of those years 2-3 jobs at a time. 80+ hours a week. I can count on one hand of those days I enjoyed being at work. I love my days off. I am close to retirement and can’t wait. Love your videos. ❤
I bet you're ready to retire!! That sounds exhausting!! Thank you. ☺
Thanks for sharing this positive and uplifting video! I'm working towards early retirement in the next 3 years and can't wait to experience that chapter of my life 😊
You're very welcome! It's the best. It will get here before you know it! 🙂
I'm happy for you, Julie. I'm glad it's working well for you!
Thank you!! ☺
Almost to 10K subscribers Julie! 🥳
Yay!! 🎉
Big hugs.
Thank you! I LOVE hiking! It is crazy how much stress some jobs come with. 2 years and 11 months will fly by! 😁
That's amazing! I love travel too! 😁
This video feels so relaxing. I’m lucky to have a job I really love and I know I can go part time or per Diem if I don’t want to fully retire. My goal in retirement is to get a dog and have the time to train it very well 😂
That is lucky! I LOVE dogs!! ☺🐕
Love this video. I am right there with you.
Thank you! ☺
Your happiness adds something fabulous to the world. If we could all feel like this, what a different place it would be to walk out in the world knowing you're going to meet other happy people along the way. I look for this when I'm out and about. Little children especially are happy little beings and fun to interact with! Life is good!!
Thank you!! It is nice to meet happy people along the way. ☺
Thank you so much!! I definitely feel like I made the right choice! ☺
Every Friday I am in a hot bath with a beverage by 5 not coming home from work all stressed out. Peaceful!
Yay!! It's great isn't it? 😃
I'll be 39 in November but I am planning ahead. I love watching your videos. You're so informative and straight to the point. It gives me hope and the knowledge of what I can possibly expect in the future. I appreciate you ❤
Good for you for planning ahead!! Thank you so much! ☺
Sounds absolutely wonderful! Excited for you. I anticipate many of the same things will fill my days once I'm retired next year! Enjoy your time!♥
Thank you! It is wonderful! Next year will get here before you know it! 😁
Another great video Julie! Glad you're enjoying your retirement!
Thank you!! ☺
We've been in school for 13 days and I've already been hit and spat on by a student, had a case of lice, Covid and strep and stung by a wasp. I watch your videos and can't wait to say I'm retiring from teaching...only 5 more years if I can last that long.
I do NOT miss that!! I hope you have a good school year and things get better!! 🤞
Another phenomenal video Julie! I really enjoy watching all of your videos. Do you think you were burned out often, especially toward the end of your retirement because you are an Introvert? I am a strong Introvert and I am ready at 53!
Thank you! 100%! Being in a social work environment all day is draining for an introvert. I LOVE being retired!! 😁
@@GwenMotoGirl That sounds amazing!! 😃
I love it. I am looking forward to mines. 10 years away
There's nothing better!! 👍
583 days till retirement!
I can’t wait to delete my alarm!!
It's the BEST thing ever!! 😃
It took me a few months to stop having dreams about my job,
…and most of the dreams i had about the job were nightmares!
I thought that would happen to me too. But my brain just shut off anything work related!! 😃
The day after I left Corporate America opened my eyes to what I was missing. Early retirement was the best thing that happened to me.
Yay! Me too!! 😃
Adore your choppy/unprofessional videos. Great summary, and will be joining you the end of this year. I'll hold you to that coffee tasting better thing....
Glad to hear it! 😆Congrats to you soon then! ☺
Great video Julie , very inspiring! Enjoy
Thank you!! ☺
Thank you the captions and graphics. I lip read and those help me. Love your content.
You're welcome!! 😁
Congrats on your retirement! 🎉
Thank you!! 😁
As a burned out RN, this is the type of life I dream of. I'm 55 and cant wait to retire. I am hoping to by 60 but who knows....this economy is a killer (I live in Canada where the taxes alone will kill you). Glad you are enjoying your retirement.👍
I feel your pain! I was so burned out before I retired. Good luck and thank you! ☺
No more alarm clock!!⏲
Yay!! 😄
Congrats! You’re an inspiration!🥳💝🙏🏼
Thank you!! ☺
I have not yet!! I've always wanted a nice mattress like that. I did get gifts from other people though! I think my present is time. ☺
@@HappyonMonday A good new mattress is a great thing. I’ve read you should replace your mattress every 10 years. My old one was older than that and had gotten so lumpy!
I hated the Sunday Scaries. Now, I don’t even think about it.
Me too!! 😃
❤
How old were you when you retired Julie?
I just retired in June. I'm 58 1/2. ☺
@@HappyonMonday I turn 57 in a few months and i am trying to decide when to do it. At 59 or 60.
@@maxmuller1585 My original plan was 59 1/2 but I just COULDN"T keep doing it!! 😁
@@HappyonMonday I am right there with you. I turn 57 in a few months and i am struggling to keep doing it.
where the step by step video? i can do this.
I have lots of planning videos for early retirement! 👍
Why don’t you make a hiking video?
That's a great idea! I'll add that to my list - thanks! 😁
If you are so happy, then maybe you should smile more on the videos. Just saying.
I saw a smile or two.
I think Julie‘s videos are great as they are. She speaks contentment from her heart, and the words are very encouraging.
It's hard for me to talk and smile at the same time! 😆
@@markharris142 Thank you! ☺
Julie I think you are great just the way you are! I appreciate your content and how you deliver it, earnest and honest.
