This was a hilarious way to spend the morning while I wait for my husband to come home for Christmas morning! Thank you so much for all your videos, Elle. Happy Holidays everyone.
aaaah that ending made me cry. it's my first christmas without someone i'm grieving and...it's rough lmao i couldn't stop crying leading up to today but just gotta keep trucking. thank you for another fun video!
I’m so sorry. I’m glad you’re letting yourself cry-grieving is a difficult process, and it comes out in so many ways. Make sure to cut yourself some slack 💗💗💗
Your observation with In a Holidaze lol that’s because you read so much fantasy that you need that “why” and How explained . I get it 😂. With these romances it just is what it is and you have to not think too deeply
I remember One Day in December being really hyped when it came out but the synopsis alone really turned me off. My friend wanted to buddy read it but I veto'd that one. Your rant completely confirms my decision lol. I do quite like the 'hallmark' type of holiday stories though - especially when busy with holiday tasks. They don't require much effort and I already know how it will end so that is kind of cozy and comforting.
I ended up discovering Christmas cozy mysteries this year. I'm kind of afraid to try holiday romance books but a couple of these sounded interesting. I might give them a try. Hope you are enjoying your Christmas and have a Happy New Year!
@@ebnovels I'm really into the Nine Lives Magic cozy mystery series by Danielle Garrett. There is a book in the series set during Christmas called Yuletide Yowl (each book's title is cat themed because of the talking cat familiar. I also enjoyed Peppermint Barked by Leslie Budewitz. In addition to the mystery, there were fun facts about Seattle strewn throughout. Those are the ones I've finished. I'm in the middle of a couple others of which I hope that none cause me to rant 😅
I'm in this topic right now as well😊 f/f though 😋 so far so good, specially I'll be gone for Christmas - sweet and kind story🥰 male interest is from this perfect bunch you talked about😂
Ok, very intrigued by your description of Kiss Her Once! Consider me influenced! 😉👍 Thank you for sharing those beautiful photos of your Dad and Grandma. They look like such lovely people! Also, I don’t know if this is already listed somewhere, but may I ask what music is playing at the end of your videos? It’s gorgeous!
It's been a few years since I read One Day in December, so I had forgotten a lot of the finer details. What a painful reminder of how much I disliked this book. 😭 On the other hand, it was almost like going back in time and buddy hate reading it with you, so that was super fun. 😂 Always nice to see Luna. 😊
Gosh, there are so many good romances out there but I’m really intentional about the way I choose them because there are so many romances that don’t work for me. I usually get my recommendations from the Fated Mates podcast. I found this video hilarious and I hope you end up doing more romance reviews.
Your energy in this video is me ranting to my aunt each time she makes me sit through a hallmark film with her 😂 Likewise, I can’t with romance books. The fact that fantasy titles have been more realistic than the romance ones I’ve tried is terrifying 😭
I adored One Day in December but I wouldn’t call it a holiday romance. Never seen it recommended as such. Thanks for the video - reminded me to pick up a few I forgot about
I haven't even finished watching the video yet, but I related SO HARD to the rant about "One Day in December"😆. I remember trying to listen to the audiobook like 5-ish years ago, and not even making it like three chapters into it because the main character was so annoying😂. I think I lost it at her not telling her best friend about her boyfriend being bus guy ETA: I'm so glad I didn't finish it now; by the sounds of it, I would probably have had much the same opinions on it as you😅
Merry Christmas🌲, I have One Day in December in my TBR, but after your review I think I will not read it, I don't like cheating and lies in real life; i don't want to read about it in books, ❤
We read One Day in December for book club this month and it was the worst. I hated every moment of it and wish I did not finish it. It was so bad. I loved your rant and I absolutely agree with you
@@ebnovels Yesss, we all hated it. You're right, it wasn't so bad because I could rant about it with them. We were all side eyeing Jack and Laurie. Our host absolutely hated Jack. Her commentary was hilarious
i dont often read romance books, holiday romances less so even, but Kiss Her Once For Me is one of my absolute fav romcom books. i could be bias bc the book came in my life at a time where i was also dealing with anxiety and the fear of failure and going to grad school for an art degree to get into animation, so having a book touch on the theme of "yea, failure is always a possibility, but you will always find a way to get back on your feet." like REALLY helped me. like i was talking about the book to my therapist. so yea, definitely biased, but it's great to find out im not the only one who really enjoyed the book!
Ah, it’s nice of you to try and reflect on why it personally connected with you, but also, we’re all biased in how we approach art! Some things really speak to us, and it’s so lovely that this book was able to do that for you 🥰🥰🥰
I recently read The Post Box at the North Pole and... I actually really liked it.. despite not being a Christmas or romance person really LOL. The main character is in her 30s and actually had Real World Responsibilities (like a job) and considerations like her elderly father. It worked really nicely :)
I suppose the realism of people’s hot mess behavior warrants some stars. It’s difficult for me to get over how frustrating they were though (obviously 😂)
I honestly think that in the case of stories like the Day in December one, authors sometimes are living out fantasies to resolve things in their own life, but not in a healthy way. Like, maybe the author relates to the choices of the main character she wrote, but instead of writing a story that displays the flaws of making poor choices and how it affects others, they write a story to play out a fantasy “happy ending” that they wish had happened to them in real life. So many of these jerk guy love interests who somehow actually have a heart of gold are more of a fantasy than any actual fantasy genre book! Thanks for these reviews. They satisfy my curiosity about books that I know I won’t actually read!😁
I HATED this book so much! I even cried out of frustration ! The love interest was so horrible! On that note, I love love love all of Josie silvers books, and I really hope you pick one of them up ❤
I think that’s one of my biggest problems with holiday romances and romance as a genre in general; a lot of the male love interests are just cardboard cutouts with basic characteristics that women like or even that are the opposite of a common problem women have in relationships (ie being good at domestic stuff or a good listener). It’s really interesting sociologically, but I’d rather have believable characters 😅
I found In a Holidaze at the dollar store. I thought it was interesting, because ive never seen that trope in a contemporary romance before that book lol
Would love to see what you think about What the river knows by Isabel Ibañez. Your taste almost always matches mine. It's a mystery adventure with some historical fiction aspects and a slow burn romance and the book is mostly character driven
I’ve enjoyed very few Holiday romance books but the one exception is Jenny Bayliss - loved The 12 Dates of Christmas, A Season of Second Chances and currently enjoying Kiss Me at Christmas. (Skip Meet me under the mistletoe- genuinely terrible characters). They have middle aged characters and have seen life and quirky lovable side characters. Festive but set in reality.
I loved kiss her once for me 😭. Edit: I'm so happy you loved It as well! I'm brazilian and it's so rare for sapphic books to be translated here, so I was SO glad that this one did! It's one of my all time favorites, especially because I relate to the main character so much. We both worked in animation and, at the time, were working someplace else, plus we're autistic (yes, in my mind, and in my autistic friends as well, she is lol)
Aww, that’s lovely! I’ve noticed a pretty big lack of sapphic romances in general (though admittedly I’m not extremely familiar with the genre, so that might be on me), and this one was so fun. And yes, the main character and the things she has to overcome are definitely really relatable. I’m glad this was translated and made accessible for you!
Christina Lauren books: Um.. yeah so they're my summer reading every year. (I actually read Holidaze in July). They're all very.. suspense of disbelief. The men are always female gaze, and the plots are always very 'HA that would never happen' and a lot of times the women never act the way I feel a normal woman would. They're SUPER mindless and 'fluffy' reads, and I never expect anything from them except passing the time/some enjoyment/a few LOLs which, since Summer is my work time, is perfect for me. :)
15:12 Chiming in to say that no! Not all Christina Lauren books are like that 😂 They are actually an author duo and many of their books are sooo much better. I loved The True Love Experiment, Love and Other Words, and The Unhoneymooners so much, just to name a few favorites.
"OPEN 👏 YOUR 👏 MOUTH" LMFAO "this is actual delusion" HAHAHA "LIE FOR LONGER" "somehow this loser has game I GUESS" this video is killing me lol luna wants snackies!!!
I'm guilty to like "stupid" romances. Like the Bridgerton, Jenny Colgan holidays books.. It's make me giggles and laught and turn my brain off. After a fantasy series, thriller or memoire. It's a great palette cleanser. But I really need to be in the mood. Otherwise I took it too seriously and it's awful.
I find the "my husband is DEAD" ("but actually I wasn't even married & my ex isn't dead") thing to be SO FREAKING WEIRD AND ANNOYING. Why not just say, "I'm not married." ?!?!? lol wtf bahahaha I'm all for sleeping with someone on the first date if you both want to go for it... but not BECAUSE YOU OWE IT TO YOUR FRIEND?!?!?! lol what kind of friend would give a shit either way?!?!?! I'm dead. That book sounds so painful. I don't understand why Lou couldn't have answered that question with "two" (for how many ppl she's been in love with) and said, "That random bus guy I was obsessed with, and then Oscar"... ??? Like why did she have to say it was someone other than "the bus guy" ???? lol this book used to be on my tbr but I took it off at one point and methinks that was the correct choice.
I liked One Day in December so I am in the minority but that's ok. But then I am not a big fan of the Stormlight series after the last book so everyone is different. Not sure I will ever listen to it since I don't like how the people read them.... Have a harder time reading a book that large and I have issues with the size to begin with.
@ebnovels You're absolutely welcome! Seems a bit ridiculous, but it's actually very sweet and deep. I read it last year and I think I will re-read it soon!
I read One Day in December back when I started reading again because it happened to be December and it seemed kind of popular back then. It was enraging, tbh 😂 hated it so much. I hated the characters, hated the drama, hated that they got together in the end. Awful “romance” book.
I'm surprised you liked Kiss Her Once For Me... I quite disliked it, but I think that's because I am ace and absolutely hated the demisexual rep in this book (it was not done well at all). I also remember hating that the love interest, Jack, was not held accountable for lying about having a wife and the blame for pretty much everything (including their relationship not working) fell squarely onto Ellie.
Stupid main characters make it really hard to keep reading. Merry Christmas, Elliot to you and your family. Thanks for filling my time with interesting viewing
Damn, that quote on screen at 32:22... Girl, chill with the racism towards Scottish people ahahahahah Overall this girl sound insufferable 😅 And damn, Jack is horrible, wtf?? Adding this book to my "Nah" list lol

I read One Day in December back when I started reading again because it happened to be December and it seemed kind of popular back then. It was enraging, tbh 😂 hated it so much. I hated the characters, hated the drama, hated that they got together in the end. Awful “romance” book.
My poor husband heard so much about this book while I was reading it 😂
This “one day in December” book - good GRIEF, how long is this damn book, it just goes on and on and on. I will not be reading 😂
I never ever want to read any of these books. 😅
I read One Day in December a couple of years ago and... it was just meh for me. I agree the main character is pretty dumb.
I had to go see how long this book was with all they went through. He really does sound like a jerk lol
I know someone who’s having a kid to fix a relationship 😭
Books where the plot hinges on people being dumber than a door, really irritates me. 😂
Damn, that quote on screen at 32:22... Girl, chill with the racism towards Scottish people ahahahahah Overall this girl sound insufferable 😅 And damn, Jack is horrible, wtf??
Adding this book to my "Nah" list lol
I know 😅 There were so many other comments like that throughout the book too (not about Scottish people, just annoying comments in general)
One day in December sounds insufferable.
