- NieR Replicant Review/First Thoughts NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (ニーア レプリカント ver.1.22474487139...), officially abbreviated as NieR Replicant ver.1.22, is a remake of NieR RepliCant that was first announced during the Nier tenth anniversary NicoNico livestream on March 29, 2020 along with NieR Reincarnation.
The game will be a collaboration between developer Toylogic and Square Enix. It marks the first global release of RepliCant, which was exclusive to the Japanese PS3 version.

@@VON24279 Yes and the difference is big right in the second playthrough if I remember correctly.
@@VON24279 I personally don't know how you trigger the multiple endings, but I do know it's done progressively. Ending 1 -> Ending 2 -> etc.

NieR, Final Fantasy Tactics, Legend of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, and Chrono Cross are my favorite soundtracks.
The lighthouse scene was so relaxing
this was my last rental from a Blockbuster Video. I got the game and just kept it because they announced a while later that they were closing. Still have that PS3 disc today, and I'm so happy to have pre-ordered the PS4 version. I never do that anymore, but NieR is such a magical game. I hope many more people try it now and get to know it too!

Minor correction from the beginning. Japan got both versions. Replicant was exclusive to PS3, Gestalt was exclusive to Xbox360. When localized for the west, they ported Gestalt to PS3, and then released it as just Nier for both consoles.
So do we need the old western Nier and now Replicant as well to get the definitive Nier 1 experience??
And that was a mistake. They shoulda done the same thing in the West: Gestalt for the Xbox dudebros and Replicant for the PS3 animu fans
@@chrisx7683 It’s the same except for some dialogue changes so don’t worry. The game was made with the younger version in mind anyway. Father Nier was created to appeal to western audiences.
@@budgiecat9039 Actually, the older version of Nier was made specifically for western audiences. They thought fathers would sell better I do think it would have been nice to have both but while I enjoy both versions you can tell the implementation of a Father Nier was an afterthought.

It was Square-Enix of Canada decision to make father Nier which Yoko and Saito originally protested against because S-E Canada actually wanted them to get rid of Replicant completely and make Gestalt (Papa Nier) for all regions as they said itd be too cost wasting to make two different versions. but eventually they all compromised. But the reason you do not see two versions of a Nier now is because Yoko regretted that decision and he didnt want to make that decision again. So Replicant 1.22 it was; with the most you seeing Papa Nier in the 15 Nightmares missions now woven into the game.
This isnt a game you play fot the graphics. It's for the story and music. The gameplay seems refined too. Cant wait to play this masterpiece
true, but still they could have done more. There's still a lot of "loading" between areas (even on PS5) and the graphics are worse than Automata. I'm all about story and music by the way

If I didn’t know anything about this game there’s nothing here that would make me want to play it, except the bit of the music that’s been shown. That being said this is one of my favorite games of all time
One of the endings in the first Drakengard game, Caim and her Dragon wind up in an alternate universe, (modern day Japan) for a boss battle and it sets the stage for the Neir series.
And drakengard 3 sets in motion what leads to that ending, loll

This is a perfect video for reintroducing this title, great info dump on the history of this title, enough info to get an idea of how the game works and how it was updated. All without spoiling the story / world, so the player can discover that on their own. Kudos HCG, more reviewers can learn from this.

The tune that plays while free roaming first big city has been in my head 4 yrs and yrs.unforgettable
Been enjoying the game so far myself. I think what has been really nice and a great surprise is how all the NPCs are fully voiced dialogue even the merchants where lot of other games they will just have some one liner like "welcome" or something of the sort. Thanks for your first thoughts!

I have played the Gestalt version from start to finish with all of the endings, loved the story . I'm pretty excited about this remake, yes im calling it a remake ^^

I can’t wait for this to come out tomorrow. Nier Automata has slowly became my fav game ever since it came out and I’ve played it over and over again. I always wanted to try the earlier games but I heard they weren’t as good in terms of gameplay and visuals, so it put me off a bit. But that’s no longer and issue with Nier so I’m hyped as hell. Yoko Taro is a genius when it comes to writing based off what I’ve heard about Drakengard and what I’ve experienced in Automata.

Man I was so stoked for this game! Everyone I knew when the original came out completely crapped on the game (mainly for the main character's design), but it was one of the games that's stuck with me even though I only played through it a single time back then. Seeing it redone, with the original MC put back in, is incredible. As soon as I jumped into the game and got my first quest to collect Mutton, all the nostalgia came back, and it was awesome.
Also, you aren't alone, slaughtering the sheep and goats is fun as hell. Forgot the goats can actually kick your ass too. Had one launch me pretty good earlier and got a good laugh. Love this game.
So now we know. Johnny is a secret ram/sheep killer. They better stay away at night from Johnny's house if they know what's good for them.
I did play Gestalt back in day, hopefully they add Gestalt content to game too so we get whole package. This year so packed for me. First persona 5 strikers, bravely default 2, monster hunter rise then nier replicant, pokemon snap, resident evil village, shin megami tensei 3, rune factory 5, monster hunter stories 2, ys 9, scarlet nexus, and tales of arise. So much to play! Edit: oh forgot about replaying mass effect for that new version some time too

Thank you for the respect you have for your viewers. I dislike spoilers very much and your First Thoughts videos are always informative without saying much about the story. You helped me not be such a ragaholic and enjoy games again.
Even on release day yesterday, I had a hard time finding an Xbox One copy. Got lucky and found the last copy at Best Buy in my area. Target, Walmart, and GameStop didn’t have any copies. Kind of concerning. Only saw one copy on PS4.
But I booted it up and HCG is spot on it’s not about the graphics but the story and perspective. Is it as good as Automata, no and that bar was set very high, but what it offers is great. And the music is just divine!
I might check this one out, I couldn't get into the last one.

Definitely interested in playing Nier Replicant. I liked Automata and have heard from many people that Gestalt had a better story. Unfortunately I don't own a PS3 and that is the only way to play Gestalt to my knowledge. So when Replicant goes on sale in a year or two I'll most likely pick it up. I remember the fishing aspect being less user friendly than id like. Didn't play much further after getting into town.
Automata i beat several times and rank it as a top 10 game of the ps4/xb1 gen.
Looks great on the PC when you tweak the settings.

Played it on launch, love it more than Automata though. Choked up at many scenes and I think I did cry during the true ending. I don't know if I want to go through that again....
Never played a Nier game might start with this one first to start from the beginning. I like the change from 3d to 2d it feels very nostalgic, it looks like they couldn't decide between them so just kept both!
It’s actually fine to start anywhere, the games are incredibly different between the first and second. Heck RepliCant and Automata are technically the 3rd and 5th Drakengard games yet you wouldn’t be able to tell unless you catch the references.

If you remember Tecmo's Rygar which originated on the NES I think and got a remake for the PS2 and an updated redesign of that remake for the Wii later on (which completely changed the look of the main character to a more hulking guy with white hair), I believe that and as noted by the creators: Kratos from God of War, are what inspired them to create the Westernized 'father Nier" version for Nier Gestalt (which was released in the West for PS3/360 and to Japan only for the 360) as opposed to the much younger 'brother Nier' of Nier Replicant PS3.

This game also has the best soundtrack ever. Also I love the voice acting especially Laura Bailey who plays Kaine.
Would you recommend the sub or dub? I played Automata this year and I absolutely loved it, I personally always gotta go with the sub cause the emotion behind the VA is so much more intense especially in Japanese
@@gabrielquintanilla7118 heres my take. Play main A with english voice because you need that quick understanding how the world works including the mechanics, item, etc etc. Then main B you can change it to japanese because you already understood.

So the old North American PS3 version I have would be Gestalt? That reminds me, I never got some of the endings in that. Looking at my achievements, seems I need endings C and D. Wondering if it would be worth it to go back and do those, or just eventually get this version and play through that instead.
Honestly I was aware of the game before but I didn't know anything about it until NieR;Automata was released and I found out they were connected and after playing Automata, the moment they announced they were Remaking the original I thought "I have to play this!" and I'm glad that it is the original Japanese version and not the altered western version as I would prefer to play it as close to the original product as possible.
It's interesting seeing Nier on PS3 and how it's evolved but stuck to its roots visually
One of the coolest moments of NieR: Automata is totally lost on anyone who didn't play the first one. Very excited for new players to get into this one.

Huge AUtomata fan. This new one preordered. I acttually put about 10 hours into NIER on PS3 this last year but i heard abotu the new one so I stoped playing the ps3 version.
I played the "Gestalt" version on PS3 back in the day. ...and never got out of the tutorial. It has been on my shelf while I "Got Good" at non-RPGs, and I just hadn't gotten back to it. As such, *OF COURSE* I preordered "Replicant"! I've got the skills now, and I'll be ******** if I let this game beat me again. Now if only one of those upcoming DLCs let us play a "Gestalt" mode. It all depends on just how much differs between the two versions I guess.
