He's one of those rare vocalists with a voice that gives me chills.

Raine Maida is a genius that few know about.

I've been a huge OLP fan since they got their American debut in 1997 and I've given a fair amount of thought to Raine's religious references in some songs. They seem to be Christian-related, but they seem to be about being upset with God. The line "I don't want to hear who walked on water" is likely Raine saying he doesn't find any redemption within religion when a young child is killed. However, he's the only one who knows.

This is probably from the Happiness…promotion cycle. I got to see this tune performed live during the Spiritual Machines tour on the Minneapolis stop. It was a request from some fans that had been following the band for a handful of dates, so they replaced Life (if memory serves) in the set. I think that was a one off occurrence that tour as the set usually didn’t vary.

It was probably 99-00. If you look, there is a "Happiness" backdrop behind them. There is also the fish from the cover behind some of the crowd.

I agree. I would love footage of touring behind Happiness. My favorite Album. Although Spiritual Machines is moving me some

@CWilczewski they got there name from the poem Our Lady Peace by Mark Van Doren
each member had read the poem and had a different interpretation of it, thats why they chose it
cause it resembled how they thought people would think of their music

Awesome! Seems he was holding back a little on that performance but his vocal choices are always good ones.

@Zurby I'm actually quite certain they got it from the school they went to in Toronto "Our Lady Of Peace"

has to be before 2002, since original guitarist Mike Turner is playing with them, i believe he left somewhere in '01...so between '97-'01 for time frame of this performance by my guestimation....not much to go on, but that's the time span

Love this song but the Raine's voice here is fried! (it seems he can't use falsetto technique for some reason). Nevertheless, the studio version is one of my favorite songs ever.

@TheRaider52 - They got the name from a poem. I wouldn't look at their song as religious - Raine Maida isn't exactly the most religious guy in the world

Infact in a couple of their songs, going by the lyrics, they actually reject god.

I would say that they are probably not Christians based on this song. This song seems to be a bit of a diatribe against the God that they perceive as cruel to allow a young child to suffer from a terminal illness. While I can sympathise with their frustration, as a Christian I appreciate their honesty in addressing one of the difficult realities of a world in need of saving. I come to the conclusion that the only hope we HAVE is God, but I respect that that's not where they're at.

Hudson Shires not hard to tell they're not Christian based..... it's not as they are perceiving this either, him and his wife knew the little girl he wrote this song about, at the end of this song on their album you can hear her and Raines wife singing together she had an inoperable brain tumor, do your research before you say something so ignorant.
