Sometimes I like to remind myself what truly epic black and white photography looks like. To remind myself what it was about photography that I fell in love with, and what I sometimes still find within myself a spark of aspiration towards. Strand (et al) fits the bill perfectly! I'm sure we will look at his work in Scotland before long, in the meanwhile enjoy!

MUSIC: Spirit of Fire by Jesse Gallagher, from UA-cam music library.
This is amazing work from a true master, thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Ansel Adams met Paul Strand in New Mexico and Strand showed Adams some of his negatives: Ansel was blown away by the quality of these, the range of tones and the luminous shadows, and drew inspiration from the standard of work he was shown. I see the same quality in the selection of images in that collection. Much appreciated!
Two of the all time greats!
The 1916 still life…Painters at the time must have felt the real force of the medium in the hands of such craftsmen.
What a time to have been alive! And how lucky we can witness these moments in Art History looking back from today.
Brilliant! ty for this...
Thank you for sharing this book! His portraiture is truly inspiring
You are so right! Something very striking but natural about them.
