Fun comparison! My take on the cordless tools is that all of the brands will get the job done. The biggie for me though is once you start accumulating batteries, you're fairly well committed to that brand. I went down the Milwaukee battery trail & haven't looked back or regretted my choice.

I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!

The tool tester put 5 guns to the test and Milwaukee beat everyone in overall performance & dropping durability also. DeWalt & Bauer from Harbor Freight came in 2nd neck & neck.
I’d have to give that Rigid some serious consideration. It barely lost out to the Milwaukee which left one nail proud. The DeWalt seemed heavier or at least not as well balanced as the other two. I like this type of head to head comparison, seems like a more realistic test. Thanks.
My old boss was team yellow. We had the DeWalt nailer. It is not even close to the Ridgid or Milwaukee. It's way out of balance. Battery does not last as long. Does not shoot as fast. Top is waay fat compared to the others. No magazine extension. We kept loosing the tips on the plunger and other parts kept coming loose, put it short it's not even in the same level as the other 2.
Have used the dewalt many times and it sucks, the unbalanced heavy top causes too much fatigue and since I can’t stop till the work is done, I end up having my skin worn away where the end of my thumb touches the top part of the gun. It doesn’t shoot reliably and gets jammed constantly. Going with Ridgid next for the price and the good reviews.

The advantage of the Ridgid does it for me. Lighter, shoots just as fast (both advertise 3 shots per second) seems a bit quieter (also noticed this on other channel reviews) Ridgid doesn't blow the plastic pieces everywhere like the Milwaukee for some reason, available magazine extension, better light placement, comes with a plastic/rubberish boot over the tip when needed. Doesn't seem to blow/recoil back as hard as the Milwaukee, better "wake-up" bottom placement than the Milwaukee. Plus it is about $100 cheaper. Another plus is the LSA. It was also mentioned a lot in other video reviews that Ridgid was also better balanced. So yep, Ridgid for me.
Another factor not everyone is aware of is that all battery framing nailers use an air piston/spring that eventually loses its pressurization. Factory pressure is about 120 psi, but after thousands of nails you have to refill that pressure chamber. Milwaukee, Metabo HPT, Ridgid and the new Ryobi (ridgid clone) all use this design, but only the Ridgid and Ryobi are end user serviceable, meaning they provide the user with a little 1/4 air fill port that refills from a regular air hose. The Metabo needs a $75 adapter or mail in service, and the Milwaukee needs a special adapter and a high pressure pump like those used on a air rifle/gun. From a long term ownership/maintenance point of view, the Ridgid/Ryobi are the winner in my book for the above reasons.
I worked on a framing crew in the late '70s when nail guns or framing gun first came out. All the boys were skilled with a hammer. Townailing and getting studs to end up squarely on the line. Back then the weapon of choice was always the 24 ounce Estwing. I now haul Amish framers. They still hand nail. Their hammers weigh nothing and seem to drive nails home better than the big old Estwing
I'm a Milwaukee guy. I've been looking into Cordless nail guns and came to the conclusion that Ridgid is the one I'm considering. If you don't care for the warranty the Ridgid is almost half the price outside of Home Depot. I don't have Ridgid batteries but a $14 adapter solved that problem. Loved the nailer. Now I want to build more stuff to play with it more. :D
Based on this comparison, I would go with Milwaukee or the Rigid. I have a bunch of Dewalt stuff but I don't like the wind up and down of the Dewalt gun. seems to be a bit slower. Right now I have about 10 nailers, all pneumatic, and many of them are over 30 years old and going strong. I have rebuilt two of them but the others are working great. Most all of them are Porter Cable and we love them. I am going to invest in some battery nailers this next year and this is a good start.
If in a shop use pneumatic, if on job site use cordless. I got a Paslode for framing nailer but the Milwaukee looks interesting because that is most of the batteries I have.

As a Milwaukee user, I give the prize to the ridgid. Lighter, less expensive and best warranty. Downside is more frequent nail changes. And I think California doesn’t allow clipped head nails to meet code.
The advantage of (spaced) plastic collated nails is you get a full round-head nail. Wire and paper collated nails (non-spaced) have a smaller offset head. Those nails use to be “clipped” but they were modified to be non-clipped to pass building codes. The only advantage is you get more nails per round. The downside to plastic collated, aside from less nails per round, is the plastic fragments tend to be unpredictable-definitely wear eye protection!
Ridgid takes the cake for LSA agreement. Insane offer for same cost. Just be aware it doesn't cover user accidents and only defaults by manufacturer so don't go throwing it off roofs expecting them to cover it.
Cool comparison. The wind up noise and nails that have to be hammered home would drive me crazy after a while. Number of nails driven before battery recharge would be interesting. I heard at some point that propane was tried as a fuel source for powering a nail gun.
'safety' glasses brothers...I used Paslode 'impulse' guns for years...but got tired of cleaning/rebuilding them...terrible battery life too...I myself still use my 20 year old air Paslode framer...still my fav
Just bought the DeWalt 21° framer came with a kit of battery and charger. Marked down from 399 to 100 bucks! The nailer should be able to use clip head or framer round head, but it would depend on the code where you live . I normally just use round head they seem to work the best in my Porter cable air gun so win win.

I use a paslode splt it has a battery and a gas cartridge problem is if it’s damp air I draw moisture in I’ve had it 30 years needs a service now as I am retired now I’m not really bothered I will get round to it you are doing a good job on the tiny house I would’ve thought he would’ve put damp under the soleplate

I'm a makita guy because my dad started me on them. Now it would be too expensive to switch brands because the batteries are what costs so much. I'm very happy with makita anyway.
I've been at this for many years and used a variety of tool brands. Makita has more torque and will take more abuse than the other brands. Plus, its not made in China.
I just bought the Milwaukee framer for my board and Batten project…mainly for its no-mar tip they provide. Im a bit shocked over its weight compared to say the Plaslode. I should be using a siding nailer but hate being tethered to compressors and for some reason siding nailers aren’t battery yet. Do you know why? Strange that roofing and framing guns are. 🤷🏻♂️ Ken do you recall which vid you show the rack you made for stacking boards vertically to dry. I want to make something like it to prime my boards before bldr here in Upstate puts them up.
I know they are much more convenient to use, but how do you like the battery powered guns compared to pneumatic powered for performance, other than the cord getting in the way, having to have shore power, etc?
Could you do a cost per shot comparison please? I bought a pneumatic nailer (second hand) after costing Paslode nails at around 0.07 GBP per shot not including the cost of the gun. Convenient but pricey! The second hand nail gun cost me £50 and came with 7500 nails too which made it pretty much a throw away item when the job I bought it for was done.
This, as many others have said, was a great presentation comparison. I have some older(9yrs??) Rigid 18v Li Ion tools (3/8 Drill & 1/4 impact driver) that have really held up and performed well. I was waiting for Rigid to come out with a Cordless 21 degree nailer, because of the success with those two items. I'm not even sure if my batteries will work in these new items, even though they look very similiar. 😂 I was torn between going after cordless; Rigid, Milwaukee or DeWalt tools. Someone said that the Dewalt batteries for the nailer are different than the batteries for their other tools. Does anyone have experience with this? I definitely don't want tools that take different variations of the same battery.
Ridgid will work with your old batteries but I’m sure that the other two will as well. I’m getting the ridgid but the Milwaukee seems good too. Don’t get the dewalt. W have experience with it and I hate it. I expected more from dewalt.

Talk with your insulation supplier. Get ahold of a hempwool mfg to advertise for on both channels. It's safe, stores carbon, mold and bug resistant and supports farmers. Good luck on the build an channel coop. It's great for both.
Like the milwaukee over my Hitachi gas gun only for the rapid fire. It is a heavy tool for constant use but great for pointed use where using less than a strip of nails on a ladder. Also dislike that it only holds one strip and adding the extended magazine just adds more weight to it

@@guppy2129 He did say that one of his nails wasn't all the way down (not as bad as Chad's but still needed attention). That said, in real life you'd never go that fast anyway as you'd run out of things to nail before you could move the gun (except for that Dewalt... I do think that would be a PITA)
Long term the rigid dose'nt seem to hold up my experience especially the batterys. I've had milwaukee for years no problems and some of my milwaukee battery's are 7 years plus old still going like new. I'd go milwaukee no question when it comes down to durability quality and features. Just curious were all the guns set to max depth fire that also would affect driving depth, also the jamb release mechanisms would be a good comparison as well. Lastly multi fire and single fire settings would be a good comparison.

I never use anything other than pneumatic. I don't need anything fast, but do prefer something faster with a roofing nailer. What I look for is weight, ease of use, and safety features. If it drives the nail all the way in without jamming, I'm good with it. I have one for framing and one for roofing and neither of these are a Milwaukee, DeWalt, or a Ridgid. I don't own any battery operated nail guns, but personally I would go with the Ridgid.

Everyone testing these cordless nailers wants to declare one to be the fastest - but are they all fast enough and consistent enough for the real world? Jams and battery platform would be the decider for me. I have recently fallen in love with super fast battery chargers because they eliminate the number of batteries I need on site.
👍Nice capability comparison. I guess the bigger issues would be a drop test survival along with product/consumable costs and lifespan test for both batteries and nails. I don't think the Ridgid "lifetime" warranty applies to commercial use, so, they should be registered by a person, not a company. For me, a Dewalt ni-cad drill had a 3 foot drop and bent the chuck shaft just after the Ridgid's li-ion products came out. I have the original 18 volt brushed Ridgid and have had no problems with it; not that I use it everyday, but, it keeps working. I've added an impact gun and their multi-tool system and have had no problems as a casual user. Thanks for the video

I have used all of these, but I still prefer my Paslode; the lighter weight makes a huge difference when working an 8 hour day.
I just bought the Milwaukee framer for my board and Batten project…mainly for its no-mar tip they provide. Im a bit shocked over its weight compared to say the Plaslode. I should be using a siding nailer but hate being tethered to compressors and for some reason siding nailers aren’t battery yet. Do you know why? Strange that roofing and framing guns are. 🤷🏻♂️
Ken do you recall which vid you show the rack you made for stacking boards vertically to dry. I want to make something like it to prime my boards before bldr here in Upstate puts them up.
I like the Rigid. I like full head, less angle.
I know they are much more convenient to use, but how do you like the battery powered guns compared to pneumatic powered for performance, other than the cord getting in the way, having to have shore power, etc?
Could you do a cost per shot comparison please? I bought a pneumatic nailer (second hand) after costing Paslode nails at around 0.07 GBP per shot not including the cost of the gun. Convenient but pricey! The second hand nail gun cost me £50 and came with 7500 nails too which made it pretty much a throw away item when the job I bought it for was done.
Which brands batteriess last longest (which brand makes best use of its battery power?) Which charge fastest?
This, as many others have said, was a great presentation comparison. I have some older(9yrs??) Rigid 18v Li Ion tools (3/8 Drill & 1/4 impact driver) that have really held up and performed well. I was waiting for Rigid to come out with a Cordless 21 degree nailer, because of the success with those two items. I'm not even sure if my batteries will work in these new items, even though they look very similiar. 😂 I was torn between going after cordless; Rigid, Milwaukee or DeWalt tools. Someone said that the Dewalt batteries for the nailer are different than the batteries for their other tools. Does anyone have experience with this? I definitely don't want tools that take different variations of the same battery.
Ridgid will work with your old batteries but I’m sure that the other two will as well. I’m getting the ridgid but the Milwaukee seems good too. Don’t get the dewalt. W have experience with it and I hate it. I expected more from dewalt.

I have the Dewalt 20v max chainsaw. Very good tool that cuts well and seems to last a good long while. Keep the chain sharp!

Talk with your insulation supplier. Get ahold of a hempwool mfg to advertise for on both channels. It's safe, stores carbon, mold and bug resistant and supports farmers. Good luck on the build an channel coop. It's great for both.
Like the milwaukee over my Hitachi gas gun only for the rapid fire. It is a heavy tool for constant use but great for pointed use where using less than a strip of nails on a ladder. Also dislike that it only holds one strip and adding the extended magazine just adds more weight to it

@@guppy2129 He did say that one of his nails wasn't all the way down (not as bad as Chad's but still needed attention). That said, in real life you'd never go that fast anyway as you'd run out of things to nail before you could move the gun (except for that Dewalt... I do think that would be a PITA)
Long term the rigid dose'nt seem to hold up my experience especially the batterys. I've had milwaukee for years no problems and some of my milwaukee battery's are 7 years plus old still going like new. I'd go milwaukee no question when it comes down to durability quality and features. Just curious were all the guns set to max depth fire that also would affect driving depth, also the jamb release mechanisms would be a good comparison as well. Lastly multi fire and single fire settings would be a good comparison.
Thats a good review! is there a makita batt nailgun ? i would like to see a rev on that if so. In my work im only using makita so it would spare me some extra batteries and rechargers.

I was reading a building code.at one time I thought I read that clipper heads are not to be used on framing. Is that correct or not?
My Dewalt brad nailer has a fast mode. Does the Dewalt framing nailer have fast mode? For framing I love my Paslode.
I never use anything other than pneumatic. I don't need anything fast, but do prefer something faster with a roofing nailer. What I look for is weight, ease of use, and safety features. If it drives the nail all the way in without jamming, I'm good with it. I have one for framing and one for roofing and neither of these are a Milwaukee, DeWalt, or a Ridgid.
I don't own any battery operated nail guns, but personally I would go with the Ridgid.

Everyone testing these cordless nailers wants to declare one to be the fastest - but are they all fast enough and consistent enough for the real world? Jams and battery platform would be the decider for me. I have recently fallen in love with super fast battery chargers because they eliminate the number of batteries I need on site.
My nail gun is my right arm with a Stiletto 14oz titanium hammer. Cheers!

👍Nice capability comparison. I guess the bigger issues would be a drop test survival along with product/consumable costs and lifespan test for both batteries and nails. I don't think the Ridgid "lifetime" warranty applies to commercial use, so, they should be registered by a person, not a company. For me, a Dewalt ni-cad drill had a 3 foot drop and bent the chuck shaft just after the Ridgid's li-ion products came out. I have the original 18 volt brushed Ridgid and have had no problems with it; not that I use it everyday, but, it keeps working. I've added an impact gun and their multi-tool system and have had no problems as a casual user. Thanks for the video
