    I bought this nail gun as we were planning to renew all the fencing in our back garden. As this involved 19 double slatted fence panels, 10 of which needed to be cut down in size, we knew there would be a need for a great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt deal of re-stapling the wooden slats to the wooden framework. Each alteration required the re-stapling of 62 wooden slats with double staples. Prior to starting the work we ordered sufficient additional staples as per the instructions with the gun.The gun performed fantastically throughout the entire project with no jams of misfires. The adjustable power was excellent allowing the staples to be fired into the 8mm slats to the correct depth. For the price paid this was a bargain and it proved itself to be so reliable and versatile making an arduous task much quicker and professional. I cannot recommend this product highly enough and it will be used on many other projects in the future.

    I’ve had my hikoki for over a year now. We work with a lot of hardwood doing renovations. It’s been great although it doesn’t skew nail that well.

    I have never used nail gun before so I really want to purchase a reasonable good one for framing and finish nailing. I'm trying to cedar log home myself with Maybe a laborer at times. It is a little confusing absolutely don't want a compressor to mess with. I'm not building houses for a living. I wish they had a tool kit that includes nailers. Yes I'm a woman but I can learn. I've designed and contracted to homes myself. I had absolutely no experience but I've always watched people at work and I study on whatever I'm going to do. I studied almost two months how to lay tile for my bigger home cuz I couldn't afford the expensive tile that I wanted and pay someone to install it. I happened to buy half-inch handmade Kyle which was beautiful but as you know the edges are not Square. 2000 lb for me to take on but I knew what I wanted and I got it done and swore I would never lay tile again. Well it's been 20 years so I will be changing my mind. I appreciate your opinions on the tools that you talked about. I'm still a little confused the prices are so different and outrageous. Do you have a preference to a finish nailer?? I'm still confused on Brad nailers pin nailers. I know what they are but I don't know why they can't make one gun for all three jobs.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Starlsd! Thanks for your comment! We all have to start somewhere, I did the same as you, constantly learning on youtube when I first tried new jobs.
      A few quick answers:
      - Nails guns can only use one gauge of nail unfortunately.
      - Some 18 Gauge (also known as 'C1 Nails') nailers can also fire staples, but none of the battery ones as far as I know. You probably won't need staples for a house construction anyway.
      - I think your best bet is to buy a two-pack from one of these brands, containing a framing nailer and a fixer/brad nail gun. The fixing gun could be 15Ga (also known as DA) or 16Ga (also 'C' nails). It doesn't really matter much, they are very similar. It also doesn't matter much whether you get an angled fixer or a straight fixer.
      - You can definitely buy a two pack (with batteries) in Paslode, Dewalt or Hikoki, possibly Milwaukee. Nailers can be quite heavy. If you'd like to keep the weight right down, Paslode is the lightest, Dewalt a bit heavier, the other two brands a lot heavier.

I really appreciate all of your expert opinions I've bought a lot of Sears Craftsman products before. They do stand by their products not sure I'm sure can power tools. I can fire a couple if thousand nails a day when roofing on a big job, and the extra weight is punishing on your wrist/arms. People complain about Paslodes, but they last at least a decade of day in day out thrashing, the nails come with gas, often times you can't even get any other brand nails where I live, parts are easily available, and most importantly, you can service it yourself. If your Paslode needs servicing, you can be back in business within a few minutes, and if you want it done by a professional, it can be done locally and back probably same day. If one of these battery guns packs up you are sending it away and are out of action for weeks. The Dewalt is particularly bad, because once that flywheel mechanism packs up, nobody can fix it. They are insanely complex inside. These ones with sealed gas pistons are better, but they eventually get weak and need re gassing or replacing. That's not quick or cheap. I would love to have a Milwaukee, don't get me wrong, so powerful and convenient, but a Paslode is an investment. You just can't go wrong with their reliability and durability. Also they are so much lighter, which matters when you have that thing hanging off your belt or above your head all day. My Dewalt 16 gauge nailer just packed up and I already had the Framemaster so I grabbed a Paslode. Another great thing about Paslodes is that they always come with two batteries and a charger for a similar price to the tool only with the other guns. I have Dewalt and Makita batteries, and Makita still have no cordless framer, and can't make a finish nailer that's actually good, much as I love their tools, and honestly the Dewalt framer sucks. Dewalt bradders are pretty good, but mine lasted 5 years and crapped itself. I'm just not keen on investing in a third battery system when Paslode is so much more value for money to get into. If you are already on the Milwaukee or Hikoki platforms, their guns are much more attractive, but man they are heavy.
      Aiso the Hikoki doesn't like the cheap nails that you get without gas, and runs best on Paslode nails, which are only sold without gas in big stores, so the one at work just causes piles of unused gas canisters, while ironically the Paslodes eat any nails you feed them.

      They had to lower the price because they're simply not at the races. Being hoseless was really the only advantage they ever held. They might suffice for a DIYer or old guy wirking on his own, but when a framing crew is in a flow state, Paslode will only slow things down with its power loading time,clunky ergonomics, need for cleaning and changing fuel cells. They also give out a shitty smell and probably emit toxic gases like Carbon monoxide.

Idk man, I feel like the investment firm that bought the tool division from Hitachi that would become Metabo HPT here in the U.S. needs to hire me, because man Metabo HPT is truly loosing market share like crazy. Not because of the tools, purely because of lack of tool release and marketing. It’s almost like they’re purposely doing this :( The gear is top knotch and super competitive. A little bit of insight for you. HiKoki is a Japanese brand and they have a different sort of marketing ethic than Americans do. The German brands and Japanese brands are not at all willing to come out and talk shit about their competitors, they consider it to be disgraceful. They prefer to let their products do the talking.
      When I spoke to Hikoki Aus about this upcoming comparison, they said they wouldn't be able to share it on their social channels even if they won.

    I have only ever used Paslode and Hikoki when doing work experience with carpenters. I'm attracted to the battery guns, particularly the Milwaukee one simply because it's narrower around the body than the Hikoki or indeed the Paslode, and I've been in situations before where the clunkiness and general size of the gun presents clearance problems. That being said, I've also had to skew nails at times and found it harder to do with battery guns than with Paslode ones due to how they're designed. The Milwaukee is a lot cheaper without even considering the cost of fuel cells, and Milwaukee is a platform I'd use for more specific tools such as impact wrenches or SDS drills. It's a pity Makita, one of the more commonly used tool brands in carpentry, don't make very many good nailers if any at all. Not shitting on Makita, but their speciality is just not in nail guns. It's more in saws, planers, impact drivers, drills, etc...

I know fellas that have the DeWalt and paslode and they just don't compare in terms of power or speed or easy maintenance. Its so reliable, it works perfectly every single time and has never even jammed on me, even if it's left unused for months on end. You are right about the stupid rafter hook on it though, but hikoki do have a smaller hook, which is easily swapped out for that one and it's much nicer. I think the gun shuts off after like half an hour of non use but that doesn't really bother me.

I have had it back to get fixed under warranty but it didn't help too much. If you put a bit of pressure on the magazine handle it seems to fix the problem. All I can think of is that the spring which feeds the nails isn't strong enough. I clean mine with compressed air and put some graphite powder in. This seems to fix the problem.

    I've had the hikoki framer for a couple of years now. Great power & shoots quickly, but anybody who owns one of these framers and uses them regularly will tell you 2 things:
    1. The hook is annoying as anything.
    2. It misfires.
    The hikokis have a tendency to misfire if you use any nails aside from paslode nails in them. Furthermore they have feeding issues which prevent smooth operation.

    I currently run a Bostitch air framing gun, looking to switch up, but it seems like no option is perfect. With air I obviously have a hose and annoying compressor to cart around, but it's reliable AF and hella powerful. It seems that every Paslode used by a member of my crew has some issue or other - "finnicky" is right. With the battery-only options, it seems like the more powerful and reliable you go, you're also going more expensive, and substantially heavier. What's a scrawny carpenter to do?

    just checked milwuakee with battery (5.0) and charger is 649$ at homedepot in canada and without a doubt could be found a tad cheaper but homedepot is a good baseline in north america
    i think the two 3.0s would suffice for running the nailer if you didnt have many or any other m18 tools by the time you shoot through one 3.0 the other would be charged only what a 40min charge time on basic charger for a 3.0

    Like the review I have the Milwaukee but hate the nitrogen cartridge drives me crazy it runs out always at bad times so I'm picking up the Dewalt I can deal with the noise if I don't need to deal with cartridges

    I like the Milwaukee, but i don't like the weight. The Dewalt i like but i hate the fan that makes to much noise before each shot. I have had and used several Paslodes, they are very temperamental guns, always something not right with them, but if they are on they are great. Good comparison though, very informative, i'm wanting to buy the Milwaukee but the weight has got me second guessing buying one.

    I'm doing my apprenticeship for a framing company. We build the frames lying down and stand them when finished framing. We use Milwaukee, paslodes and air compressor. Id say the milwauke is the fastest building frames due to its rapid fire. The air compressor can be just as fast if not faster but you have to pull the trigger each nail. Just have to be trigger happy. But for standing and nailing frames together prefer paslode as its so light and great at skewing nails. Prefer paslode for everything other than building frames due to its size and weight.

    Love the hikoki framing and finishing guns. I use them with a battery adaptor so I can use my Makita batteries since I don't use them often enough to warrant a hikoki charging station and batteries, but I'm also quite lazy.

    my paslode is coming up 16 years old and in need of replacement, so i tried a works mates hikoki for the day the deal breaker for meis the tip it just does not skew like a paslode does with its far superior tip 2nd the weight is insane not comfortable hanging from the apron, i loved the power but the first 2 reasons are the deal breaker for me unfortunately i'm getting another paslode.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  4 роки тому +1

      Totally get that Adam. Weight is important, especially if it spends a lot of time hanging from your belt. This has become less problematic for me personally since I started using a shoulder harness with my belt.
      The Paslode tip probably is better, but keep in mind that you've probably gotten SO used to the Paslode that switching to another gun is just gonna feel wrong for a while. And being able to bump fire .... so useful. [Dwain]

    • @adamt3289
      @adamt3289 4 роки тому

      @@OZToolTalk yeah even the old paslode tip is better the new one is a step above again, I also use a harness but weight is such an important factor for me. Also here in nz we can't have bump fire it's illegal for some absurd reason. Love the power of the new guns but for me paslode again... Maybe in another 15years!

      Yeah mate ,if I'm doing a house frame my 30 year old Bostitch n80 does the job ,fast,light ,cheap to maintain. If I'm doing eaves etc and a hose is a hassle ,the Paslode works well.

    Have two paslodes one is 13 years old and one is 8 years old, yes they need cleaned 3 times a year but that's easy once you've watched a few videos. Also had two dewalt one lasted 2 and a half years and the other just over a year, I will never buy dewalt nailer again. Longevity is my most important thing.

    Nice work as usual. Keep it up! Thsnks for the video at 26 minutes of the dewalt working, it looks like it works fun. HOLY SHIT, AU PRICES ARE "apeshitbananas."
    I wonder if the Paslode needs some time to clear the chamber? I wonder if the consistency would improve with a brief resting period after a dozen nails or so?
    I'd be shocked if the green and red guns weren't made in the same factory. HOLY SHIT, AU PRICES ARE "apeshitbananas." How much is a loaf of bread, a gallon of gas(litre of gas, I can convert), and a gallon of milke? Thanks.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  4 роки тому

      Thanks Zack. The guns are definitely not made by the same people!
      The paslode certainly needs a good break sometimes, and we gave it the breaks we thought were reasonable. For instance on the 90mm nails into hardwood, after one nail sat up proud, we gave a good 10 second break between each after that. Helps a little.
      In terms of our prices, yes we pay a little more. but you have to compare our average Australian wage as well as our tool pricing before being too horrified. [Dwain]

    I have ran a Paslode framing and finish nailer for five years now. I just got the Milwaukee 30 degree framing nailer and 18 gauge finish nailer and they are my go to now. The bump fire setting is all I use and wished the Paslode guns had it in the past. The Hitachi as it's called here in the U.S was a consideration but I already had Milwaukee tools.
