    If anyone's interested in these kind of topics the book we're reading at the moment in our book club is Walden by David Thoreau. It has themes of living a simple life, fighting against materialism and spirituality. So come join the community theschooloflife.carrd.co

    In India we live life hard; and all my friends are stressed about getting into a certain school, or trying to become rich, and theyre never happy. Today I woke up early, went outside and grabbed chai as the beautiful sun rose. I actually bought a camera the other day so i went around my city taking nice pictures. I still have dreams, but thanks to this video, I wont let them consume me from living in the present. Thanks random guy... you might have changed my life

    Main point is that social media has made our minds to think that everyday is needed to be perfect, full of excitement bla bla bla. So, we just think that the simple life is boring and unhappy. It's not true.🤸

    The main thing to enjoy this way of living is enduring the times were you feel empty and maybe even a little depressed. When we endure those times, and don’t reach for fast dopamine spiking things like bad food, social media etc, you become more balanced mentally and neurological. That sets you up for enjoying the small things in life and you’ll realise that it’s far more enjoyable than all those distractions

    These days living a good life became a wish. Working so hard every single day to reach some little goals. Being distracted by a lot of videos, words and… being stressed by so many unreasonable thoughts. Overthinking as hell and being overwhelmed so easily. Life wasn’t that much hard to live as far as I know and remember. We’re making it hard for ourselves. Comparing any single situation with anything else. But oh, a simple life. Peaceful as the ocean. And when you have a single life you will know yourself better day by day. And the whole life is to know yourself and this whole galaxy and meet your soul. So why not? Thank you so much for the video.

    Incredible video. I really want more slow mornings like this. I feel like a good morning sets me up for a good day. Yesterday I got up at 6:20 and went for a skate as the foggy sky got lighter. I grabbed a chai late from the cafe around the block, people watched for a few, then skated down this bike path that goes through a marsh. I sat at a bench and watched the cars go by on the freeway bridge that crosses the marsh off in the distance. That just made me feel at peace the whole day. This morning I tried again but was so exhausted (and still am) and couldn’t get out of bed until an hour after my alarm. I’m hoping college next year will bring more time for mornings like these.

    Happiness is not a matter of choice. Some people struggle with diseases and disorders of all kinds. Not everybody can afford to sit for hours meditating on the growing of leaves. Happiness is an umbrella term for moments of either peace, pleasure or satisfaction. Sure we can all have them. But not whenever we choose to. Maybe some day when we finally stop competing against each other.

    I am currently trying to understand this, and the algorithm suggested your video to watch. It is probably very strange, but the thing that made me think about all this was the movie Blade Runner 2049, where Agent K is living a hard life but keeps going and has his ways to enjoy life with his virtual girlfriend. Very weird, I know, but this somehow brought me to think more about the simplicity of life and how I can apply this to my own life. And your video explains this quite perfectly. Again, good job.

    The cinematography and storytelling were amazing. Life can be absurd at times, and we must create meaning in order to live it. that's how I'd like to live my life, even though I am just 18. I'd rather live myself in accordance to my future and still make time for my present. It's better this way. Not because it gives me time to relax, but because I know that no one is sure about how much time they got left. I might die tomorrow, or the next year or after hitting my 80's. at least I'll die knowing that I didn't drag my life out for the a future I wasn't sure would come.

      @@TomHurls Its amazing how I and most of us are in a similar mentality to come back to a time when we did not have the internet , going back to a time where we valued stuff that bought us hapiness, not materialism , but just some community and purpose. You're doing great 🫶
      Your effort, alone, is your greatness, not necessarily your success. No matter what, you've changed your life in profound ways, and you'll always be beautiful because your beauty is found, not only in your fight and your fighting spirit but also, in your existence! We all have to fight for something, but I think, maybe, what we lose along the way is the innate knowledge that we can actually fight in a peaceful and gentle way. Not like a warlord, not tearing ourselves apart but with bold hearts full of love for ourselves and others, with the right beliefs, and with the way we speak to and about ourselves and others. We knew this when we were children.
      Activists like MLK Jr., or thoughtful and intuitive souls like Anne Frank, come to mind.

    Alright I'm going to type some things out that I need to say out loud and I need them written somewhere so I can look back to it when I get to enjoy the beauty of the mundane .
    And so I shall commence into my writing. I am tired of being tired. Recently I had a silly fight with a friend I truly really love. At the end of our fight she told me she needed time and so we stopped talking . It's been 3 days and I can't stop thinking about it , what I could've done to not get in to that situation , get a time machine travel back to that moment and not say what I wanted to say because I would know that those words will take her away from me . But then again life's a tricky game so even if I travelled back to that unfortunate moment and fixed it, another one would arise earlier and might have even been one worse than the one im going through right now . I want to text her tell her that I'm here for her , tell her that I miss her and she's alway on my mind . But there's this voice in me saying "you're weak , you'll sound desperate" and well maybe I am . I keep thinking that if I do nothing now and just wait I might lose precious time with her . But then I think that if i do rush through it I might not get to have anymore time with her because I'll screw it up even harder and i'll drive her even further away . I'm tired of being tired and I wanna be with her.

    • @TomHurls
      @TomHurls  Місяць тому

      That's hard. Look. If you try and reconcile and she shuts you down youre in the same position as you are now. Don't expect anything to change but if it does then great. If not, reconvene, recollect your thoughts and reprocess your life. If you want to chat more about it you can add me on insta or discord and we can talk more properly. But good luck❤️

    • @georgekoufop4866
      @georgekoufop4866 Місяць тому

      @@TomHurls Well first I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read my comment , normally it would just stay there and pile up in the abyss of comments while your vid blows up. And although I appreciate you taking the time to answer me , I also disagree with one of the things you've mentioned in your message. The statement with which i disagree is : "If you try and reconcile and she shuts you down youre in the same position as you are now" . Let me explain. So for right now what's happening is we're in a standstill where she told me she needed time to process things and I'm therefore trying to give her the time she needs. If I go in with a message saying that I miss her three days in I'll have essentially not listened to her request of wanting to be alone and get things sorted with her life. If I text her now for us to reconcile, yes I'll have the thoughts burning deep inside my head about me being a sitting duck and doing nothing erased , but in turn my message might drive her further away than we are now. I won't have given her time to process her feelings and therefore she might act defensively and push me further away because I will have unintentionally disrupted her way through healing. So no, at least in my opinion, we wont be in the same place after it , we'll be even further from it. And so I decided to give it a bit more thought. I decided to look at the situation from her perceptive. She's struggling right now and our fight, although I'd like to think it was significant to her , might not be the biggest of her problems right this second . And so I'll wait until she's ready , if she never is then I'll have to learn to be okay with that. Time heals all
      Have a wonderful day!

      Happiness, sadness, and all the other emotional states are part of being human. Focusing exclusively on happiness (and the related feel-good emotional states) is not balanced, in my opinion. Living with the whole spectrum and expecting such, is a more balanced mode. Some days are sunny, some cloudy. That's being.

    This can't be applied to every culture . In Asia the dynamic is really different . West has the luxury and culture to be on your own and that has been there from generations . In my opinion one must focus finding a work or passion which consumes you to let you forget and attain simplicity and central nature in general through work . Most of the time it's the dissatisfaction of work which leads to misery.

    camus' philosophy is not cozy, it's about resistance. yes, you can revolte against the absurdity of life on an individual level by trying to have fun no matter how bad the circumstances, and you sort of HAVE to. but revolting against the absurd also means quite literally revolting against injustice. Camus joined the french resistance and wrote a book called "the pest" which was about doing the "right" thing even if it might kill you because if you don't, you're already infected and doomed to die. also I personally think, individual happiness is an oxymoron since human beings are social beings. i strongly believe that we can't be happy without doing something meaningful, and that this "meaning" comes from a connection to other people. focusing on the smell of good coffee and the morning song of birds will never be enough if we don't do anything we consider truly meaningful. so don't focus on the little things, focus on the big word things (peace, love, justice, art, you name it), because striving for those things gives your life meaning and is a true revolte against all meaninglessness.

    • @TomHurls
      @TomHurls  Місяць тому +6

      when it comes to philosophy my approach has always been the following: take what's useful for me, leave the rest. So, when I read Camus, the parts of his philosophy I love are the thoughts I expressed in this video and just because I love them it doesn't mean I agree with everything Camus says (e.g. I won't join the french resistance hahah). In terms of your second point I absolutely agree. Community has been something I've spoken about in the past on this channel and is absolutely an aspect of life we need. I think it largely comes down to the scope of the video. The video was about simplicity and enjoying small moments. I'm not saying that's all you need to live a meaningful life, but it sure goes a long way.
