      @@tobrien1112 , oh I agree. But I used him to show how Sullivan exploits talent. Lucky to get 15 goals under his coaching, goes on to score forty. Even if he was a PP specialist, the PP for years was awful or middle of the pack. It was clear McCaan had that offensive talent, and never got his shot with Sid.

    I bet he's waiting impatiently for the 4 Nations though....playing on a team that competes? Holy hell...
    It seems to be over the years the 2nd Period is when the team just completely collapses, unless they're already down by a bunch of goals. Hextall di the damage, but Dubas can't do enough to fix it. After they lost to the Caps in the 2nd Round in 2018 it was the beginning of the end

      As much as Sid has stated he wants to protect his legacy, one can only wonder what he would think if Colorado came calling? Or perhaps Tampa? Or even - God forbid - Toronto, knowing that if he helped them win a Cup, he'd be treated like a God. So what's more important to him, playing meaningful hockey while he still has the ability to, or wearing one team's sweater his entire career? Boo me if you want, but you know he's at least thinking about it.

      Is there some "the next one" coming up in the draft? You know, a Bedard, Crosby, McDavid or someone like that which we could only hope for?? Now, I really hope Dubas not only trades Petterson but Rust, and one of either Letang or Malkin. Along with Raks only because his value will never be this high again. For all of them, I could definitely see a hot prospect, a young 2nd liner with loads of upside, a young, strong defenseman, at least one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd if not more. Along with our draft, which Dubas has done a great job rebuilding, we'd look pretty great this years draft!! Any comment DK?

    I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the biggest mistake the penguins made was hiring Hextal as GM and the ensuing catastrophe of resigning Letang and Malkin because “we gotta keep the three together cuz it makes us feel good inside”. They should have dished Geno and Tanger for young talent (boo hoo, I know, sacrilege) and kept Guentzel and Crosby together to actually give the penguins some hope for the future. But no, we resigned stars in their mid 30’s, made no attempt at cultivating speed and young talent, and added on a Jeff Carter here and there or a Noel Acciari or a Boyle or whoever. It just baffles my mind that a GM watch a coach whose success came from a young, fast roster thinks to himself, “hmmm, let’s saddle the team with some old slow relics!” So yay for the penguins, we have Crosby Malkin Letang and Karlsonn, which would have been great ten years ago, but means nothing now. Unfortunately the penguins future seems about as grim as the Pirates and Steelers at this point, and it’s really too late make the moves that should have been made.
    But hey, at least we’ve got the Riverhounds 🤷‍♂️ 😂

    • @zeusthedrumlord547
      @zeusthedrumlord547 14 днів тому +2

      See this take about the core and still disagree regarding the re-signing. Not only were they still among the better players on the team but they were *especially* good for their value of around ~6 million. Even Geno who dipped a bit, he’s not superstar Geno like we’re used to but he’s still one of the better 2C’s for the price.
      They kept them around to see if they could still compete then hextall lit *EVERYTHING ELSE* on fire as you mentioned. Also the decision to keep Murray over fleury aged like milk. Those things sinking the team doesn’t make the re-signing of the core bad. You realize they would’ve lost those guys for nothing which wouldn’t have helped refill the cupboard? If you want to argue they should’ve traded them after they missed the playoffs, sure. But people argue they shouldn’t have been brought back which really wouldn’t have helped in any meaningful way. There were so many other terrible issues that I truly feel this complaint over bringing them back is a lazy and misguided reason to blame why they nose dived. Not Matt Murray. Not petty/granlund then turning into 10m for Karlsson, not Jarry being terrible in the playoffs, not sending out guys like tanev, McCann, Rodrigues for nothing, etc….

    Maybe this is a naive take, but I think the Pens have a chance to seriously retool next year. I think a skeleton of Sid, Geno, Rakell, Rust, Bunting, Letang and EK is still a good skeleton and with around $30M free (if he buries Jarry & Graves in WBS next eyar) to spend next year gives Dubas a true shot to deck this lineup out with competitive players. The right mix of players.

    Lizotte, Grezlyck, Hayes, Beauvillier. Off-season acquisitions to sell (season was already over). Dubas straight out says at end of preseason the goal isn't the playoffs but to have wiggle room at trade deadline. Come late in season penguins need to call up a player, and they call up Imama. Yeah, come on, like this is just screaming, we don't want anyone good on this team. Malkin to IR call up Puljujarvi, who will be back in the finnish League next year. It’s laughable to think 58 or 71 could bring anything decent back in a trade. On top of that they would have to retain so much salary that it would impede signing players next year, if they want to be competitive. 28 would cost to much to resign, so he’s gone. And if dubas wants to be competitive next year, then why trade 67? Unless he gets a younger less expensive player and perhaps a draft pick then he has to go get another probably more expensive player to replace him.
