Thank you! I get scared that they are going to dump too much every time I almost decide to make that decision lol. I’ve signed up for chip drop twice and cancelled 🤣
I extended my chicken run. The part I extended I covered it with chicken wire. So far, it's working out. You may want to try that. I already had it on hand for something else. Used zip ties and that gave them extra protection. I used to have a hawk come around. But I haven't seen it lately. That wasn't my issue, it was coyotes. Never new about those little devils until I had my first set of chickens. I'm a little sad I can't let them free range like they use to. Your girls look nice and happy. Thanks for sharing.
Chickens will teach you so much, just treated one for cocci, and she's doing awesome. Now I have one with the sniffles. Learned to do breast injections. Never imagined I'd be doing that.😂 They absolutely depend on you❤ Pine Bark nuggets has been awesome in my run to help keep smells down ! Your flock is beautiful 😍
I love chicken talk. To me that means they are happy🐔. I don't have chickens because I'm afraid I won't keep them warm enough during winter. Plus I want to have room for them to roam freely.
I love my chickens. They are a lot of responsibility. I also got chickens before I even had a place for them. I underestimated my neighbors dogs and lost my first flock. I love my ducks too, but they are messy
Hi Asia, great video on chicken and quail care. I love my childrens, with a little food water and care they give you eggs and meat, I process and stew the older hens, they make amazing chicken dumplings, so actually it's a win win all the way around, peace and blessings 😊🌺
I Appreciate how honest and true life you are. I love watching hing you as I learn a lot (no chickens yet, but my son a daughter does). As long as you have a channel I will certainly follow. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Your garden is wonderful. I am so jealous. The whole Garden, my grandmother used to grow a garden, but she had more land to work with so hers was very orderly. I like the chaos of your garden better. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Guuurrrrllll!! You make me wanna follow that little voice in me that wanted to raise chickens. But I worked way to much & too hard. Maybe in my next life!!! Meantime I'm loving the vicarious joy of your journey!!❤❤❤❤
I did the same thing you did. I just went and bought them without knowing what I was doing 😅. Still learning. I also got 7 just in case one or two didn't make it but they're all still here
Thanks for sharing Asia! This is a really informative video! I got 6 hens 2 years ago and I enjoy having my girls too! Watching you has gotten me interested in raising Quail!
I had chickens years ago and let them free range in my backyard - won't do that again now that I have a garden. Considering chickens again in the spring. Already have a dog run set up just need a coop.
Nice story! Thanks for sharing! Would you consider allowing the chickens to run the garden at the end of the season to scratch and eat pests? Also, you may want to use 1/4" hardware cloth as a topping to your coup (if you don't mind me giving the suggestion)!
Thank you!! You’re welcome! I would not only because I grow all year long if I didn’t I would absolutely let them. I’m thank you! That’s a great idea actually!
You could actually build a hooped frame to go over the specific bed and the chickens (1-3) could be confined to the raised bed. They'll eat the worms, greens, bugs left in the bed. Look up garden hoops for an idea! @@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
I’m going to research which are ideal for my area, but those sapphire olive eggers are beautiful. I think I’ve figured out a setup so will start prepping for chickens next year. Thanks for sharing. This was great info.
Enjoyed your chicken story. I want to get chickens within the next year or 2 once I am totally settled into the house and get the garden to where I want it. I need to research what breeds would be best for our cold Ohio winters and the best way to keep the predators away. So far I know there are groundhogs and raccoons that I am fighting with in the garden. I have also seen eagles, hawks and vultures in the area. We can have up to 4 hens in the city here.
Hey, you were in the garden the other day, when a chicken decided to fly up the fence😂 And you said, that you've just cut the wings. We had chickens, and we only ditd cut one wing shorter. So they don't have balance to fly. If you already did that, I'm sorry😊 Keep up the good work.
My city won’t allow me to keep chickens. Trying to change that. Our local community college has a course on raising poultry for community seasonal learning. Anyone interested should see if their community college does the same as an option. The class was $30 for my area.
Hopefully you can get that changed! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! O that’s a great resource. I’ve never thought to check into that. Thanks for sharing!
I had 8 hens and then sold 4 because it was too much eggs for just me. But my chickens all are the same breed so I don't have names for them because I can't tell them apart. 😂
Thank you! I was very nervous my first winter but they did amazingly. I have 5 quail. I’ve just started hatching my eggs to get the meat production coming. My son and I love it. My daughter won’t eat them because we raised them. She loves animals.
Could you provide a link to the coop that you bought? I like that it's wood instead of that ugly plastic stuff that alot are made of these days. You do have some nice-looking chickens and the bedding you're using seems to stay very clean! 6 or 7 is about the same number I want. I bet you could cover that top of the run area with 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I've heard from various chicken people that chicken wire doesn't work well keeping predators out. Hardware cloth is more durable. My area is chain link and not as tall as yours so I might have to rig up something that extends the height and then put hardware cloth on top of that.

Wow' Aisia , it's been a year already that I have followed on your journey as I did my journey into gardening. I have learned so much from you. I am now making plans for changes for next summer. Yes those were quail eggs. I would, I like quail eggs. You need like 5 to make a normal chicken egg. I’ve also heard they are higher in cholesterol (I believe). I don’t eat them every day though. I also prefer to boil them.

The chickens seem so chill!
They normally are as long as there’s food, water and treats lol.
Good evening, Asia,
Wishing you a very Blessed Week ahead!

Thank you! Wishing you the same!

Lovely. You could keep those large bags and get a tree company to dump wood chips in your yard free. You could mulch it and save tons of money.

I do too and year they are but I still find them to be easy lol…odd I know. O no! I’m sorry to hear that. Losing them is hard.
Excellent !
This suburban gardener (also growing in her small backyard) keeps checking her Ring doorbell every time yours goes off.
I need to remember to put my phone on silent lol. You aren’t the first person to say that.

When you are in the coop and run, please wear a mask and eye protection
They’re big and healthy looking good job

We're those qual or chicken eggs that you showed in your video? Would ever recommend raising qual for eggs only, for a beginner? I love your videos!

Oh do you have Vevor’s quail egg peeler? I just saw a video on it and thought of you and the quails.

So, if you had the opportunity, would you buy a place with more space,so you could expand the gardens??!! Just wondering.☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Yes but I would still stay in an urban area. While I like the idea of country living the wildlife does not intrigue me lol.
@@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead believe me, I definitely understand!!😊😊😊😊
How many quail do you have in that space? We are looking at getting some and curious on different setups
I have 5 quail it could probably fit 6 in my opinion.
how many quails you have? Do they take any different care compared to the chickens?
I have 5 quail. No not really. They are messy so I have to clean their area more but that’s about it. They don’t roost so that’s one thing you don’t need for them. In my experience the care is about the same. The other thing is you need a low house or a high house. If it’s in between they could hurt themselves. They startle easily and they fly up when that happens.
Thanks, that's helpful. I really like quail eggs!@@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
You are good at editing your videos what do you use
Thank you! I use CapCut. It’s pretty easy and free!
Are quails easier vs chickens?
Ummm I would say yes because you don’t need as much space but they still need the same care. They do eat less but they are messy so you may have to clean more. You don’t have to let them out and close them up daily.
😘👍🙏
