Kind of a mixed bag situation. I'm sure the poor guy is probably ecstatic to be out of his cage and just get a change of scenery and a chance to stretch his wings. He probably isn't going to know what to do with freedom, though, with no experience hunting for himself or dealing with danger. And a city is a particularly complicated environment to be suddenly thrown into. Hopefully he can be safely taken home, and if not, best of luck to him.
He's sticking close to the zoo, if it's been a decade since he's had to hunt then he may not remember how even though there are plenty squirrels, pidgeons, and rabbits around. Eventually I bet he'll end up going back to the zoo for food or start approaching humans for help being so accustomed to them already. Animals have been known to seek help from humans, from a dolphin asking a diver to un-hook a fish line from it, to injured stray cats walking into vets on their own to get treatment. Owls are smart, he'll be fine.
Just leave the bird alone. It will feed on pigeons in mass. In Innsbruck, Austria, they released zoo bred horned owls into the city, and not only did they survive, they thrived, on pigeons.
They're idiots! Most think they're doing the animals a favor but in reality they're making things worse. Sometimes the animal gets killed by "the concrete jungle" , others become a problem with the local ecosystem they weren't meant to be in. Many prey birds adapted fairly well in NYC making their nests in skyscrapers.
No cold is gonna kill any owl. Fact. I kept my emu's out in below zero. And they don't originate from that kind of cold. All animals live, except reptiles and parrot species.
The animal isn't our object. They are from nature. I'm so happy for what this vandalism did. I know that's wasn't the right thing, but at least the owl is free and will know how to eat, how protect itself, how kill your food.... I'm extremely sure.
Flaco is so beautiful , I hope he is ok 🦉❣️

He's absolutely wonderful ❤️ I hope they catch him and he's safe and brought home
I hope he stays free, and is joined by more of his friends soon
1:52 ...I think he will be ok
He's probably not very good at hunting though, being a captive animal. Very possible he could just end up starving to death if left alone
@@diplodorkus970 not true, they already did another report saying he's been hunting and caught a rat; which New York is not on short supply of
@@MeltingOnYourMindto be fair, I made this comment over a week before the recorded him actually hunting. I stand corrected

Would you rather live free or spend your life in that bleak cage?
I'd rather live free and die young. Which is why I'm going to refuse treatment for my failing kidneys. How do you like that Betty?

Why trap any bird, whose nature is to fly, in a prison? Regardless, of how nice a prison is still a prison.
Because he's a non-native species that's from Europe.. You cant just keep him in the wild.
@@soultear4299 Send the owl back to its native home. Don't lock the owl in a cage/prison,
@@TheDAT573 yes, why can't it be taken back to where it came from and set free there.. Why does it have to be in a zoo???

They weren't "vandals," they were animal rights activists. Flaco - like all animals - loves his freedom as we can all see.
Why are these fools letting all these animals out of the zoos? This is happening all over the usa
They are absolute morons. It’s rampant across the USA these days.

animals don't belong in zoos to begin with
