    Most electronic devices have microcontrollers in them, which themselves contain CPU, RAM and some other stuff integrated. That means that you, Jon, were right when you said everything has a CPU, even toasters, fridges etc.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech 3 роки тому +2

      While an insane number of them do nowadays, most toasters don't, normal fridges don't, and headphones without wireless have no reason to either. Even those fridges with a tablet stuck in the door are just that; the fridge merely shares power. Anything labelled "smart" probably does have a processor, which is typically used to make the device dumber (e.g. don't display measurements, require an internet connection for that). A particularly dumb example of modern tech fashion is capacitive buttons for controlling hobs; the things go haywire at the least spill. But it sure saves the manufacturers the cost of knobs!
      For what Jon was making, early generation Bluetooth headphones, there'd be a microcontroller but nowhere near the amounts of memory this game suggests.

    Toasters do in fact have a small computer inside them, mainly for controlling the heating element. If you have a relatively new toaster and you open it up you'll actually find the USB port that was put in to install the software for the toaster.
    There is actually a guy who turned a bunch of toasters into a game controller and played Doom using nothing but toasters.

    "UIs are super fast to programme." UI design and coding is typically the lengthiest, most difficult bit, actually. :) The simpler the UI is to use, the more difficult it is to code because you not only have to implement the needed featureset, you also have to meet the user's expectations in terms of responsiveness (or the perception thereof) and intuitiveness, including accounting for edge cases that might never happen but you don't want your software to get blamed for something that is either due to user ignorance or another programme interfering somehow (in which case letting your programme crash might actually be the best/most secure course of action) .
    Edit: This game is a good example of how difficult it is to make a good UI, heh. Those percentage sliders that needed to total 100% would have been better portraid by a bar with 2 sliders in it that allow you to allocate the totality by having the various categories readjust automatically as you move the inner sliders.
