I just saw on the news that JT Earle has passed. Another beautiful creative soul has left us too soon and we are the poorer for it. The loss of a child--even an adult one--is simply indescribable. God bless you, Steve, God bless your family and Godspeed to JT on his journey to join the angels in Heaven.
Know your in a hurry. Good stories, great instruments, but maybe take a second. settle down and remember your apart of Americana for us. Guitar Town a great series! Thanks for sharing Steve
Steve, you have the most amazing guitar collection I have ever seen! I love Gibson guitar more than my ...I better be careful of what I say, someone might read this.lol Best show on the internet you have! Thank you soooo much. Wolf
I love everything about the early gibsons including the L1 and L2 L3 etc. The only thing i dont get is why the necks are so wide and thick. It's like a workout just noodling around on them. I own a 1921 Gibson l1. Great shape and it has a thinner easier neck. It's a mystery as it looks like it was installed at the factory. .Maybe someone put in a custom order? Not sure but it sound and playability are much nicer than all the other ones with the lumber for the necks. it shouldn't hurt to play a guitar lol. Nice job Steve. the first song i learned and performed live was guitar town. I had a guy playing the ryhythm and singing while i played the lead part. it was in a small brewery and we got a standing ovation lol. funny how simple songs sometime are more exciting for the audience. I love your soulful singing comes from inside i can tell. You are a nice person. MT
Steve (and fans), check out George Gruhn’s new video about the Loar L-5 he recently acquired-for himself. The reverence he shows and the mystical qualities he imparts to a special instrument are a joy to behold.
Most of these have birch backs and sides. "Paper Birch" trees are native to Michigan, so they were used often on early Gibsons. Gibson used modern style tuners vs. banjo tuners much earlier than Martin on solid headstock guitars.
Just proves that in the right hands, almost any guitar can sound cool. Not sure that guitar is very versatile, but that song sounded pretty good. And, one is not likely to see many of those.
Very nice guitar! For years I’ve thought about getting a slightly later model (that has a truss rod?), and getting/asking Mowry to make a replica for me. Thanks for playing. I finally got a better idea of how it sounds. Thanks!
Wow! What a scroll ....Gibson’s have their quirks but sometimes that’s why we love them. I get it, you start fingerpicking a 20’s Martin 00 slot head and you might say to yourself- “Where have you been all my life?” That being said, a keeper is a keeper and as god awful as they are sometimes, they birthed some of the greats despite their haphazard standards. My first taste of the Gibson, that I was aware of, was Robert Johnson(or its been alledged) then Bob Dylan’s Rehabbed Nick Lucas and then his J-50. That tone got cast in my ear. There’s me, talking out of both sides of my mouth. I love them all in the right hands or any hands. My wife is learning in a Kalamazoo KG32 V-neck. No bias, just easier to finger with her small hands and yet depth wise, it’s the deepest I own . No shoulders and a 10” radius. Easy to chord. It was refreshing to see Waterloo’s revive that neck carve. My favorite of all time. It would be great to have a bit more variation in this modern market. Another great “What’s he got in that case?” episode. Cheers!
God he has no fear whacking that beauty with his bracelets. I sometimes take my belt off when I play my guitar because I don''t want my belt buckle to scratch the back :)
Hi, if you haven’t already, check out you tube channel “Rosa String Works.” Jerry is restoring a 1918 Gibson Style L. It was a barn find, literally. It’s coming along nice! Thank you for the guitar history! My first guitar was a Royal guitar. LOL! I converted it to nylon strings and I still play it.
On March 19, 1991 you did a concert at McCabes. You played a 1985/6 Gibson Celebrity with electronics. A copy of this concert is on UA-cam. The same guitar (probably the same guitar) appears in the hands of Dwight Yokum backing you up on Guitar Town at a small venue (also on UA-cam). Gilmour collected these and 2 of them were sold at his auction last year ($250,000 each). THAT guitar you played sounded great! That is the guitar I want to know about. The time of the concert suggests it might have been sold shortly after but I'm hoping you held on to it.
Steve has bought and sold so many guitars throughout his life. I imagine it have to be something really special for him to keep any guitar 29 years or more.
Holy shit what are we on Xfactor now the first 2 comments I read negative as hell. Guys he's doing these for us he's not obliged too, I know your in a hurry but your part of Americana ? What does that even mean he's a sol artist and the one thing I've learned in the 35 years I've been following Steve's career is that he's his own man not Americanas or America's or Europe's. Keep up the great work Ste be careful with that (hippie jewellery ffs). Sure you'd be pissed at them comments so I answered for you.
Very interesting stuff; I’ve never seen a Gibson guitar like that. Not my preference, as far as the mandolin shape and oval sound hole goes, but it sounds amazing for a 100 year old instrument.
When evaluating a guitar, I will of course always consider playability and sound to be way more important than looks, but I must admit, that is one fugly ass guitar. lol
Steve can be seriously annoying. He's so insecure that he must prove he's the smartest and most important man in the room. Love his music, though. Unsubscribed!
The Style O is the coolest of the old Gibsons. Wish I had one.
[This man is a National Treasure.]

I'm so very sorry about your son may he rest in peace.
Thanks for sharing your collection. Fantastic to see and hear!
What a beauty of a guitar! Glad it's in good hands. Thanks for sharing these, Steve!
I'm so so sorry for your loss Mr Earle. Sending love and hope from the UK to you and your family at this tough time. With respect and regards, Adrian.
Thanks Steve. All the best.

That guitar has a really nice string buzz. Always loved this song
Love to hear Steve's stories!
Me too.

My condolences for your loss, sir. Your family is in my heart and in my prayers.
Looking forward to the Gibson jumbos. Love these videos.
...just when I thought it couldn't get more interesting...and cute song.
Thanks. What a beautiful and unique guitar.
the fret board is really perfect and the finish and shape holay molay home run
Know your in a hurry. Good stories, great instruments, but maybe take a second. settle down and remember your apart of Americana for us. Guitar Town a great series! Thanks for sharing Steve
Fantastic history, perfect sound to match a great song. Thank you !
My heart goes out for you. Nothing worse than losing a child. (They are always a child)
Those older guitars really have their own sound. Warmer and richer.
I listen to Steve daily. I always go to Mountain Stage when he’s going to perform. Y’all read Doghouse Roses yet?!!!
Love that tune thank you
Hey Steve I was wondering if you were gonna be going to Canada for any shows or something in the future. I love your music.
What a beautiful guitar!
Loved this thank you.
I love these videos!! The best sounding video yet.

I cant play the main part of guitar town to save my damn life
Very nice guitar! For years I’ve thought about getting a slightly later model (that has a truss rod?), and getting/asking Mowry to make a replica for me. Thanks for playing. I finally got a better idea of how it sounds. Thanks!
I believe the back and sides were made of birch wood
Carved Spruce top, Brazilian Mahogany back and sides.

holy smoke man... how many guitars do u have?
The back and sides are birch.
Is that similar to the one Robbie Robertson plays in the Last Waltz ?
Hey, baby- are you ready for me?!
❤️🤍💙

Luv ya Steve bu PLEASE take off the paint scraping and denting Bracelets PlEASE
Cringing every time your fine assortment of hippie jewelery scratches the finish, but it's yours and NFS so..
