Official Unboxing Airfix: Fairey Gannet AS.1/AS.4 (A11007)

An aircraft that must surely be considered one of the most distinctive types to have ever seen Fleet Air Arm service, the Fairey Gannet was as capable as it was unique and was significant as the only post-war military contract to be won by the famous Fairey Aviation Company.

Arguably the most unconventional Fairey designed aircraft to enter full production, the Gannet was developed in response to a 1945 Royal Navy requirement for an advanced carrier-based, turboprop-powered anti-submarine hunter-killer, one which was rugged enough to withstand the rigors of operation at sea.

Why have you removed Humbrol 123 from your enamel range when it is a key paint for this kit?

Honestly, I feel like they are trying to phase out their enamel paint in favor of the acrylic line. I have been using the enamels since the late '70s and never had an issue with them until recently. The flats will dry glossy, or even not at all; they won't mix properly ( recently had 6 tins of 253 I believe...2 from web stores, 4 from Airfix as "replacements"; all of them remained a lumpy mess no matter how long I stirred). They have also dropped many colors that I commonly used. I'm glad I bought extras years ago; some with the old letter/number system. 30+ years old, stir them, they are fine. This stuff today: no way.

​@@mh53jagreed.....their paint has gone down the toilet .i only use them for brush painting small parts such as undercarriage, canopy frames,cockpit interiors.....for the overall airframe its either an aersol can or airbrush which the result is fine but it will be a cold day in hell before i brush paint a model with humbrol paint

I suspect oil based paint is being fazed out due to ecological reasons. Try buying oil bases paint from a DIY shop, it's rather difficult.
