Moral of the various stories: don’t flash any wealth, don’t get into selling drugs, don’t open the door until you confirm who is on the other side.

Bruh the idea of opening my door before checking who it was first is unthinkable to me. 😂 there are times I wish my parents weren't so reclusive and distrustful growing up, but as I grew older I'm glad they instilled that in me.

I’m sorry but I actually have no sympathy for people like this guy. He sounded like a very ungrateful and spoiled little brat. I honestly laughed at that the part of the story, where they put all their empty boxes out in front of their house. That’s what braziers or fire pits are made for.
Also talk about instant karma. Especially when he said that he got online, just to mock people for being so less fortunate than himself. As stated earlier, just another example of an entitled and spoiled brat even though he stated that he didn’t want to seem like one lol. What a total narcissist. He gets a better bike anyway hahaha. 🤣

@@Arii_75 you could take them directly to the recycling plants, you could very thoroughly tear them up and take out one once a week at a time (if you have a large recycling bin with a lid, ripping them all up would allow a better fit and more discretion).
Police advise basically the same thing:
"Authorities say avoiding placing the boxes outside until trash day or breaking them down and putting them into bags can help conceal any new and valuable items. A 2020 report from security bloggers SafeAtLast says an estimated 65 percent of burglaries are committed by individuals who know the victim."

You and your whole family could have been murdered and your biggest fear is your things being stolen?
    Is this normal?
Did most people think like this guy as a kid?
I couldn't imagine being so greedy and spoiled.
Looking to see if your grandparents had your present with them straight off the plane? Saying your grandparent interrupted your day dreaming about all the things they were gonna get you?

Hey congratulations on being sober for OP in story 2! The mountain bike story made me feel for the OP.
My family didn’t have money like that but we weren’t “poor.” My mom, sister and dad were all well liked and/or popular in high school, I was the loser trouble maker and they still don’t understand me. I’m glad the bike aspect came back into play later though, that made me smile! Story 4, I love everything but the invasion part. I love that you being younger made friends with your community. Especially love that it’s older people. I love elderly people and I think we can all learn a lot of from hanging out with them. I’m sorry to hear that some of you’re friends have since passed on but you’ll see them again. Keep being a good and caring person because the world needs more people who care about things other than themselves. I hope everyone reading this has the best day of their life so far 💓 things don’t stay bad forever, it’ll all work out.

I thought that was common sense: don’t put ur boxes on the curb. Although we lived down a dirt road that collectively held everyone’s garbage, somewhat offering a sense of anonymity, my parents always ensured any remnants of our Christmas purchases were effectively concealed. I think having 4 daughters played a significant role in this in a few ways.

These days you don't have to. But one night back in the dark ages of the 80s, and no cell phones, I heard a knock on my door at 11 pm at night. My husband was at work and my two kids were in bed. My 3 big dogs were barking their heads off. I looked at him through the window and thought, he was covered in blood. The old house I lived in didn't have a working light on that porch, we didn't even use that door, but a side door. It scared me so bad I yanked the door open, and thank God it was mud. He had wrecked his ca, and it sailed way out in the field, by my house. he happened to be moving, his last car load, which included 2 cats, which were not in carriers. He was just shaken up, I asked if I should call anyone , like the police. he said please don't, so I didnt. My husband came home, and the last I saw of him was with my husband, walking through the muddy field with a flash light calling "kitty kitty kitty"
Whether I should or not, I always will open my door to someone in the middle of the night, if I think someone's in trouble. My big dogs have protected me before and I figure anyone brave enough to walk in my yard by my big dogs must need something. Only if my gut tells me its okay though. He was not the last person to crash his car in that curve and show up at my door. The next guy got nipped on butt by my, new pit bull mix, who had trust issues. She was a rescue. "Sorry I swear I am not a killer, can I use your phone?" He was wary and afraid to approach my door, worried about scaring me. Thank heavens he had heavy carharts overalls on, it was wicked cold that night.
It is nice that people have cell phones, and the ability to call for help.
Its a wonder I have lived into old age! lol

    • @kenrose2523
      @kenrose2523 6 місяців тому +5

@chiyerano Tragic, yes, but that's irrelevant to what actually occurred in the story. Furthermore, this has nothing to do with gender. Being aware of your surroundings, knowing what to do in the dead of night when confronting strangers, what to have on you for protection and evading, etc is something everyone should know.
I agree with the post here. OP and OP's boyfriend do not necessarily have to cut back on their lifestyle but rather allocate resources for better protection and an education in street smarts.

DO NOT set your boxes out without breaking them down first. Also hold ALL expensive name brand anything boxes for a couple months, then put them out (no more than two at a time) once a month or every two weeks. This keeps nosy people from knowing when, where, and how long. I kept my smart tv boxes a year before setting them out one every other month, and still broke them down and placed them in a bag. People watch whether you notice it or not.

Story 3 I like how the narrator was like: the bike is still the best gift I ever had. I would have thought they would be more thankful they were alive instead as Story 5s ended in a killing. Material can always be replaced. But lives cannot.

The first story reminds me of why it's good to live modestly as you are less likely to be targeted for robbery.

Poor people get robbed too. My aunt lives in the trailer park and lives off government assistance and has basically garbage and she was robbed

@@tabithalarue Living modestly doesn't mean you're poor. Plus, I said 'less likely to be targeted for robbery'. I didn't say that a person won't ever get robbed. Plus, was your aunt by any chance robbed by someone she knew? Sometimes people get robbed by someone they know.

@chiyerano not sure why your questions matter. Still a robbery and my uncle was smashed over the head with a snowglobe

@@tabithalarue They matter because knowing and understanding the answers to them would help in protecting you and yours from more burglaries and invasions as any detective and anyone who studies criminology can tell you. It's kind of hard to protect yourself from things or people you know nothing about.
