Been using same pair of Audio Technica ATH-M30 for 15 years and super happy with it 😊
Great video as always. Oh, and the MDR 7506 actually HAVE changed the packaging. They come in a white box. If anyone goes to Guitar Center (my job, lol) ask for the new box if you want. We’re still putting the old ones out first until they’re gone 😂
I owned the Shure 440s for a few years, until they got smashed by a rogue personal sound mixer on stage, and now I own the HD280 Pros. Both are great options! To me, the 280s have a little more warmth, and as mentioned are INCREDIBLE for sound isolation. I do miss my 440s though. I loved how balanced everything felt within them- as someone who plays three instruments that was really special for me!
Thanks for all your hard work - you're great!
Hi Trevor. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Sennheisers and Shures! Always love hearing from people who actually use it for their music work!
The 440s are awesome. The 280s sound nice but add too much bass so they are not good reference headphones.
Doing the lord's work, thank you so much! I'm headed into freelance voiceover work soon and looking to upgrade from my current open back studio headphones to a closed back pair for monitoring and editing. The 280s are currently my frontrunner but I feel like this opened up a few other doors for me as well!
I've been using Sony MDR-7506 headphones for years and years -- I own three pair (but can only find two for some reason). They seem to be a studio standard in these parts, too -- almost every control room I walk into in the area seem to have them. Build quality and sound seem to be really consistent over the decades. And, they're fairly comfortable -- I can use them for hours and hours on end without fatigue. I have had to replace the ear cups, but they lasted about 10 years before having to do it.

I just bought the A.T. M40x for mixing last night. They’ll be here on wensday
@@droopydraco8860 @SanjayC unfortunately M40x wasn't mentioned in the video instead of 20,30 and 50.. the 40 I think is the best cheapest one for mixing if we have to use headphones for that, and.. usually I choose Sony MDR7506 which very flat and not so comfy indeed although I like it for work,.. but it's earcup skin peeled off badly after few months
I had so much fun shooting this video with you! GREAT JOB!!!
Excellent camera work!
Looks amazing!
Samson SR850...seriously underrated. I noted they don't make a lot of lists, but great value for money.
I have the old srh440 and they are absolutely amazing for the price, from a sound pov. The build quality is just ok-ish though but that is expectable at this price point. I'm so curious now to test the new model to see what they improved.
Aasha and I are eating breakfast and watching your videos. While we don't usually understand what you're talking about, we enjoy listening to you. 🤭 Much love xx
I’ve been using hd280 pros for nearly 20 years…I love them! Super durable
Very comprehensive guide to headphones. Thanks SanjayC!
Thanks for your reviews!! I was hoping for an open back in this range... any recommendations?
I have had the AKG K52 headphones for almost 3 years now and have been blown away. The sound quality is excellent with a wide soundstage and flat frequency response and the build quality is decent. they are fairly lightweight but they are super durable. I recently got some Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X headphones and I can confidently say that the AKG's sound quality and comfort (although they do have a very different 'feel' on your head) are on par. Definitely recommend for $30.
The AKG are known for the flat frequency response which to me is crucial during mixing! Definitely underrated
Hey Sanjay, you're right about the Sony earcups. I've had my MDR 7506s for a couple years and I like the portability, but the earcup outer layer has started to tear apart.
Thank you so much for this video! Just in time, I really wanted a pair for my birthday.
🥳 Happy Birthday!!!🎉💕
Great video, just purchased myself the Pros and The M20Xs 🙌🏽 thanks!
@Sanjay C I know this is off subject but what's the best studio monitors to get Yamaha 8 or Behringer Truth 8? I think I'm going with the Dt770 headphones I see a lot good reviews
I went with the Shure SRH440A. Best price-performance ratio for my level of production/recording and listening. And I'm really loving the trial of SoundID. Such a revelation!
Hey there, just a quick question, between OneOdio pro 10 and Pioneer DHJ-x5 Bt, which one would you recommend for music production? Thanks.
Ps. I enjoy all your videos 😊
Always great vids
Hey off topic, if I have a push, and ableton, is it redundant to get a keyboard like the oxygen or launchkey with all those features, should i just add a good feeling midi keyboard?
I won't have any fader sliders though, will that suck?
Hi, Sanjay C! In your gear list you have listed the DT 770 PRO 250 Ohm, how do you handle such high ohm value? which audio interface do you use? Do you have a headphone amp?
I use DT 770 Pro's at 250 ohms and they are the greatest thing put on my ears and sound amazing, they pick up everything. Im planning on getting an open back version as I need a second pair of studio headphones.
I use a pair of the Sennheisers at church to mix the audio for the live stream during services. The tight seal and high isolation is crucial to filter out what's going on in the auditorium vs. what's going out over the stream.
Oh, and I found a pair of the Sony 7506 in the throwaway pile at work. $15 for new ear cushions from Amazon and they're good to go.
I normally use the Sony MDR V150 (the headphone everyone loves to hate) at home and at work, mostly BECAUSE of the low isolation. I like to be able to hear what's going on in the room around me.
The ones I really miss are a set of old Koss Pro4AA.
I need headphones to monitor vocals and NOT BLEED into the microphone. Had my eyes on the senhieser 280. You confirmed the quality was better than akg and audio technica and you mentioned theyWONT BLEED. Just what I needed thank you for confirming my decision. I’ll get some higher end seinheisers to mix in the future
I just adore your gear comparision and reviews. I just like using headphones but its more comfortable to use speakes. Cheers!
Glad you like them! Yeah I’m traveling and had to edit this video on AirPods. I miss my monitors so much right now.
Which headphone will you recommend me for general listening and podcasts...
Btw good video 👍
I watched this video to see if Sennheiser was on your list. That's what I had been leaning towards as far as best bang for the buck. Thank you for the confirmation!
Hello, I'm planning to use either Audio Technica or the Shure headphones for recording/mixing/gaming/listening to music, but I'm wondering if they sound better than most GAMING headphones, and do they need an amp for it to sound great?
Hey Sanjay, What do you think of the Samson SR850, Would you recommend that for mixing?
Hello Sanjay.. Have mpk 49 connected to power source and using Roland USB midi interface UM-ONE connection to Mac... because usb connection on back of mpk 49 stopped working. Now when I turn on Maschine mk2 the um-on shows as connection (not the words mpk49) . The keyboard wont make a sound.. any suggestions? SAME with ableton.. but it does say UM-ONE/mpk 49. but when I arm a midi track no sound

Which one is good for karaoke apps? like smule and star maker I have shure mvi audio interface and mic but I'm searching for good headphones please give me your advice
Use the AKGs K181DJ for over 10 years and after all than hard use they still sounds best for my needs, have replaced the cable and the earpads a few times but the sound is still top

Have you ever reviewed or tried samson SR850 or SR950 headphones? i only like fuzzy ear cups, and use these for secondary or tracking purposes, in conjunction with my DT880 pros.
Thanks for your show/channel!
I’m on the market for some new cans, studio grade. Would you kindly educate me (or do a show I guess) on mid range quality phones that are available out there? Maybe the $400-$1000 category? Not true wireless, rather something that has the versatility that I can plug in when I need to [play on an airplane if I am travelling] as well as Bluetooth capable. If you have time for this thank you very much.
I have the M40X and now I'm wondering why they make so many models. I replaced the cups but they are still quite tight. Especially when I wear 🤓
Hi sanjay, there is this studio headphone swiss army knife i found called the austrian audio hi-x25 BT. Could you share some thoughts on this headphone? It left a good impression when i compared it to my m50x
I own a K240 and the only things i want to mention, is that they do last long even if it feels a bit cheap (5 years ---> Little crack on the leather parts and cable tearing up a bit) and the lack of bass (Probably the soundwaves escape due to bad insolation). I'd recommend something else for bass music producers, but mixing feels really good with it.
Figured it out. Midi cables were connected wrong. goes..out-out/in-in.. had that bkwards. May help somebody.
Awesome job 👏 👍
Helps me alot to take a final decision, saludos desde México!
Ill be forever running my pair of Sennheiser HD600. Now that I have them, I cant live without them anymore. (Ive been using them for 3 years daily now)
Hi, any tips on the best headphones for picking up bass (even subbass?) and screams for like metal music studio work? I need something that can showcase bass sounds and high pitched sounds too. 🤔
what is that yellow cable called i can't find anything short with that audio technica connector on the end
I personally use and own two of the Beyerdynamic 770 pro’s ohm 250, I and I absolutely love them 😊!!!!
Well Sanjay, if I hadn‘t got enough headphones, I would purchase those you recommended (Sennheiser, Shure), but I‘ve got very good ones, the Beyerdynamic DT 770, 880 and 990 and also Audiotechnica M50x (or so), and some more. Use mainly the DT 990 for mixing and the DT 770 vor Vocal Recording …
Hey Sanjay what you think about
Akg k52.
I own the sennheisers and the isolation is amazing. They’re my go to tracking headphones and then I mix on my studio monitors after.
I DJ with the Sennheiser hd 25s. Which model do you use for production? Just curious, I've recently begun my production journey and I'm in the market for a solid pair of headphones that I can use while scratching my head with confusion on Ableton😂
I don't quite understand why EDM or bass thump production would make one go for headphones that emphasize bass. Would that not lead to a mix that has less bass if you compensate for what you hear?
AKG K52 are my favorite cheap headphones, they are just fantastic.
Awesome video! Thanks!
Glad you liked it. Which headphones would you pick from this list?
Nice comparison for people with a tight budget!
I've got mine a couple years ago, a bit over a 100 bucks and one of your recommended options back then, the Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro but I'll soon look for open back headphones... since I can't really go over 3" monitors.
I'm thinking about the Ollo Audio S5X, maybe around spring/early summer, for mixing mostly, and keep using the BD DT 77O Pro for playing mostly.
Wow the Ollo looks interesting. Have you heard them before?
@@SanjayC Not yet, however seen rave reviews about them!
Great channel to learn about headphones excellent good job❤
So if the audio technical 20s are flatter then the 50s wouldn’t that make them better for mixing ?
I have the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x that I got for the same price as the M20x. For my purpose, recording and listening to my bass, they sound really good! I’m happy with them 😁
The M30x headphones are loved by a lot of people. I think they're a great value as well.
Hey bro, i need a favor please. Had my M20x's for quite a few years and I am very happy with them but the pads on the cups have flaked and peeled quite a bit due to continued sweat exposure. Anyway will you please chec.k for the best place to get replacement pads for the ear cups
idk why those "inbetween" models are never mentioned like the ath-m40x or the bit higher priced beyerdynamics dt 880 pro haha i have both and i love them
Samson SR850... That thing maybe cheap but the sound that comes outta that thing... I comfortabke do mixes on them and have to do very very little when checking on monitors... The sound is amazing for the price
which headphones do you recommend for beatmakering???
I use xm4's but I value sound quality deeply so I was considering switching to the shure or senheiser. Wire is no problem I use my xm4 wired because of sound quality.
I don't use headphones to mix, usually, relying on studio monitors instead. But I do like to check mastering in a variety of places and for headphones that meant my Sony MDR-1AM2 headphones that I use for recreational listening. But aware they have a slightly unusual frequency response (and it's annoying to go fetch them) I've just purchased an AT-30x for this purpose. It's just... I haven't used them yet! :-D I did reject the AT-50x headphones a few years ago for recreational listening (I didn't like the bass response). But mixing and mastering is a different endeavour.,
I know this probably sounds crazy but I use the stock apple corded earbuds that comes in the box when you buy an iPhone. I’ve used them for recording my music over the past few years and I’ve tired using other headphones but I don’t know if I’m just use to the apples or what but nothing seemed to take their place. For recording in my opinion they just seem to give you that correct sound so when I record something and then take the song to the car like we all do and see how it sounds I find I need to make less corrections with the apples then other headphones idk that’s just my opinion, I also use an M-audio interface and an akg condenser Mic which I think akg makes an insanely good microphone for beginners and even for professional use. My 2 cents
I am still trying to figure out also after many videos… is not only a question of money but of details. I bought beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 250 ohm thinking they were ULTRA GOOD but the sound using my Boss rc 505 mk2 was too low … I shipped back and i am still searching something normal… someone can maybe help? ⬇️
Are these gonna block out leaking sounds?
If you looking some tests the AKG MK2 studio have the most "accurate" , "real" sounds reproduction of all without any drastic frequencies bumps . They are semiopen wich reflect in less bass frequency response compare to the others! My favourite budget headphones for listening to music and mixing .
I guess it's matter of taste;)
I use the 280 for recording sound in film , it helps so I can hear noises that creep into dialogue
MDR7506 or ATHM50x for music production?
Very informative review again - just I expect it from you, fellow! 🙂😉 I particularly like the frequency curves - please include them in every headphones and speaker review from now on. That would be great! I am just wondering why almost no reviwer from the US is including Supelux headphones (HD-660 Pro, HD-681 EVO, HD-662 EVO) from Taiwan when it comes to low-budget studio cans. Here in Germany they are quite popular.
I second the Superlux suggestion, the HD-681 Evo became my go to for everything except tracking as soon as I got them, over the ATH-M50X I was using before.
@pelennor DSP 👍🏼 Good to hear that I am not the only musician who likes them! 😊
Which of those Is good for guitar amp?
@8:30 let's go!! I just got those beyerdynamic dt 770 pro headphones!! Thanks to u!! My unboxing video comes out in 3 hours!! I gave u a shoutout in the description.
I own both AKG240 and Shure headphones. If youre into vocal recording AKG240 is way better. They never bleed out in my setup. Semi open design allow to hear yourself better when performing, giving your flow the tightness it needs. Its true they dont have a lot of bass but one could argue that none of these headphones can mix bass properly anyway. Shure headphones is a no go if you move a lot when recording vocals as their components make a lot of "skweek skweek" sounds, so much that one can barely hear himself singing. Its true Shure headphones sound good, so good that it actually hides off a lot of flaws in your mix and that makes polishing your mix impossible. Shure headphones is better when DJing as you want to protect your ears from undesired noise when performing live all night long.
I bought the akgp52 like 6 months back and all I have to say is that its great for beginners
Pretty good highs but the bass can be improved a little bit not being a big problem as they are still GREAT in sound COMFORT that AKG is known for.
I want to buy these but I'm having a second thought I'm buying for music production
Now I'm having a second thought cuz of the low end
Am planning to get one for Guitar processors like Helix,Neuraldsp which have guitar amp modellers build in it, I want to use it to make guitar patch.
Any suggestions?
AKG k52 good for that ?
what about Philips shp9500 and 9600?
Can u tell me a free daw for low end laptop i52gen 4gb ram accept cakewalk because I am not able to download
I had these newer revisions of the shure 440, the srh440A and they were bass monsters :) I definitely like the Senns more
its starting to become more like pc market where 10$ can make difference
loads of new names esp in iem market
I Use the Status Audio CB-1 Closed Back Studio Monitor Headphones.
I got the m50x on sale for $90 on black friday last year and I'm soo happy with them
That's a great price for the 50s. You got lucky!
Great video. Please make a higher end headphones video. (Neumann ndh 30, beyerdynamic dt 1990...)
Right here: ua-cam.com/video/sj2pNpMVCrI/v-deo.html
Great list at this price point.
Thank you, Acee!! You're the best!
Hi Dear, I"M producing with SHURE SRH 240A for many years and it's excellent sound quality to My purpose, good job Your content is amazing, thanks a lot
your mix is good when you mix with them ? you use the 240 or 240A ?
Currently I am running Hesh ANC in wired mode. It's a decent all around that I got for $60. Now they are going for $130.
Thanks Sanjay
MDR-V6 I had one that died and purchased another set. Can't be beat at the price, Yes 7506 they didn't change the packaging but who cars unlike the other brand which cheap out on the headphones, You only see the package once the headphone quality for as long as they last. I can live with an old package.
I use the AKG K371 and they’re incredible for tracking and mixing, especially for the price. They can be found open box or refurbished for around $100. They sound very different from the lower end models and even let you hear very low bass frequencies, but not in an overpowering way. The only knock on the, is that the build quality is not as good as Shure or Sennheiser. Great video as always guys!
May I know since when do you own them ? Are they durable ? I heard people complaining about its hinges.
@@evergreatest7644 I've had them for 3 years. I use them very often and no problems, but they stay in my studio.
@@michaelraimondi4448 Do you have any experience with K361? I was thinking of buying those.
@@evergreatest7644 I did test the K361 as well before buying. I liked those alot, but liked the K371 better, and Sweetwater had an open box deal I couldn't refuse.
When it comes to enhancing your workout routine, having the 3 best headphones for workout can make a significant difference. The rhythm of your favorite tunes can boost your motivation and push you to achieve your fitness goals.
Good video, The Sennheiser’s do fold btw
Yessss, M20x is my first buy... Love seeing it here. It is REALLY REALLY worth the money
Hi Pratit! I'm loving the M20x - great value for sure. Do you recommend any other headphones?
@@SanjayC I'm saving up for a Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X... Or a 700 will do too once I hve the funds. But the Steven Slate VSX really caught my eye since that review you did. Do you think you can compare those headphones to the things they emulate, if you have them? Like how you did for the UAD Sphere mics?
I tested the Slates with some headphones I own and the emulation is really good. I would recommend them, but don't expect high build quality
@@SanjayC Ah. I'd rather go for the Beyerdynamics then. I splurge way too much on VSTs to keep buying new Headphones I need a one-and-done solid build till I'm earning enough to justify multiple purchases.
Just bought the MDR 7506 a couple days ago. Wish I saw this first! I wanted something for mixing, so I might be able to adjust to these I'm a bit, but now I know they're not great for mixing. Oh well! I think the bass is a little lacking on them, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Thanks for the info!
By the way, which of these would you say it's the best for mixing? I don't think you mentioned that in the video.
Yeah, I didn't really pick one for mixing because none of them really stood out in that regard. However, I will say that the AT, Sennheiser, and Shure headphones will probably do fine once you've "learned" them. I would pick the Shure for my ears.
@@SanjayC would you say the Sony's are worse than those? I'm thinking about returning them now, and maybe going with the Sennheiser.
I used the AKG 271 MKII closed ones for about 180€ about 12 years ago. But same as yours absolutly NO bass at all. And not very comfi after hours. I love the Feature that the sound goes automaticlly off when you take the headphones off. But i would never buy AKG again. My next one will cost a bit more...the DT900 Pro X...😜
At the moment im using the Superlux HD660 Pro for 49€...😁 Not that bad i have to say...i listened to more expensiv ones but they were crap compared to the Superlux. Im still learning with it because now i have more bass...not that much...but a bit more than flat. The overall sound is pretty nice for the price. Thinking about to get a second one...just in case. They are just good...👍
I'm confident to say that Phillips SHP9600 is a great value as well
Good to hear that!
I have beats but I’m not sure how good it is for mixing
How is the HD 200 Pro ?
Its almost half the price. 😅
So I have owned both the Shure 440 and 840. Oddly enough, after awhile both pairs had the left headband adjuster break. I was able to superglue the part back on and still use both, but I found it odd that both pairs had that gradually happen pretty much the same way. (Haven't used the A model though.)
I just got my first dt 770 pro and I love them
What were you using before?
Cheap oneodio pro 10 headphones (too much bass and open back)
I have both the Neumann NDH-20 and the Rode NTH-100 in my studio. The Rode are literally 30% the price of the Neumann, but I consider them equal in sound quality (even though they have different sound and response). Could not recommend the Rode NTH-100 more. Nothing at this price point even comes close.
Ever heard of Superlux? I own 3 different headphones of them, the hd662f being the overall best in my opinion, hd681evo performing better in the lowend and hd660 pro 150 Ohms being very brilliant in heights and stage but lacking real sub bass. All of them under 50 bucks and a real no-brainer. Some of their mics are also worth having a look at (love the e205). Maybe a brand you could pick up some day. I'm not being paid by or do ad for them, just a user and fanboy by now :)
Superlux are the most underrated cans out there
What is the best headphones for strictly vocals? For recording vocals and mixing vocals ( over a instrumental of course ) I don’t mind a nice heavy bass but I want to me able to hear the snare very well to keep timing with vocals. Any suggestions within this price range?
what did u end up choosing?? in the same predicament
Senheiser 280!!!!
@@juliuscesar7126I heard those are great for tracking vocals recording them but haven’t seen any real info as far as mixing goes .
My current main is the beyerdynamic dt900 pro x and they’re great!
Can't beat the 900s for open back headphones!
@@SanjayC I was blown away by how my mixes sounded on them, everything had so much space and clarity. Much nicer than my AKG pair
i own the BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro 250 ohm, would highly recommend!
Those are some of my fav ever
audiotechnica m40x and akg k92 , both very good (do them job)
You kind of touched on it, but the AKGs are good when you're working with someone. Passing the headphones back & forth isn't a problem with how it automatically fits to anyone's head. And you can hear them talking to you since they're semi open back.
Love that point. 👍🏼 I didn’t even think of that!
