I chose Red Oak because it was a strong hardwood available at my local store, and I thought it would look nice with my canoe. I think that your wood choices would also work well. My prototype was even made out of scrap cedar boards and that lasted a year before breaking! The oak is much more rigid than my prototype cedar mount. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project.
I watched a few other videos and kept saying to myself: "OMG just build it once correctly with oak and be done with it. Why would you want to keep rebuilding it over and over?". Nice work. I appreciate your effort.
Thanks for sharing this video! I just completed my mount according to your plans, just waiting for the Spar varnish to dry. I used White Oak since my Lowe's here in Sault Ste Marie had a fine selection, a bit pricey but well worth it! Thanks again!
I made one using a 2x6. Set it across the stern with enough sticking out one side for the motor to clamp onto. Marked the edges of the canoe and cut in about 2 inches and removed what's between them. Using a 1x3, I cut the angles to fit inside, under the 2x6 and drilled holes through both. Rather than using a Wing Nut, I got Nuts that you screw into a hole, then put a long bolt running from the top down to the bottom plank, and clamped them together with a socket wrench. Motor mounted to the 2x6
I,m going to buy a motor to my canoe. Do you think a 180Watt power (18lbs) will be too small?. The weight difference between a 180w and a 350 watt motor are very big, that,s why a was thinking in a smaller motor, but i don,t know if it won,t have enough power to move the canoe with 3 people. Thanks.

+Pablo Garde Erikson Not sure if that will be enough. What did you end up doing?
that is small if you happen to be in any current,a bigger motor will work less and should last longer
Thnks
Gunwale is pronounced GUH NUHL.
