    Thank you for the how to video and the kit! I did things a little different when pulling the gear off. I roughly lined up the timing arm in the injection pump and removed the nut and washer on the pump gear. Lined up the injection pump pin and pinned the pump with the injection pump gear still pressed on. Then pulled off the gear to avoid the risk of breaking off the injection pump pin 👍.

      I am not new to mechanics but I'm learning as I go on these diesels basically I'm trying to find a very simple way to do this this is not a bad way is the way that he is showing it here in this video so basically what you're saying is you got that little tiny pin or arm whatever you want to call it that's in the pump that has the plastic thing you got that at top dead center first then you jumped up on loosen the bolts on the timing gear for the pee pump itself and then wow that little pin is locked in place in the pee pump and now you have the gear sprocket loose you turn the engine to where it was top dead center and push the pin in the little plastic pin in steel whatever it's made out of right besides the pump now you pull the gear off everything's locked in place pull your pump off then put your new pump on and when you put the new pump on does it already come timed to the original spec of the side of the engine the data plate or do you put the new pump buy hand separate from the engine cuz the engines already locked at top dead center and you just line it up just how the one you removed was and the same identical positionand then your timing set without using no type of degree wheels or anything forgive me if I am speaking wrong on this but I think that's the way that it goes there's got to be a way to do this just like changing anything else without even using any of this stuff if you just want to go back to factory

    If you have your front cover off and remove the pump gear nut then put the puller on the gear when it pops loose your gear will end up on the floor

    Excellent Video guys Thank you. Question though. One we check pump/pin time, how do we ensure both time and to not shear plastic pin off once we start to loosen pump gear nut. Conversely if we confirm pin/pump time but then pull plastic pin so not to shear it off then loosen gear nut won’t the pump slightly rotate throwing everything outa time??

    • @androidmachineworks4031
      @androidmachineworks4031 4 роки тому +2

      Seems like it would be better to loosen the nut BEFORE putting the tool into the pump. That way, you don't accidentally turn the motor/pump while trying to get it loose (and shear off the pin in the pump.)

    • @darrenbrowell1713
      @darrenbrowell1713 5 років тому +3

      pin time the pump first then pull the gear off. this makes it easier to turn the pump where it is supposed to be. then when you pull the gear off and turn the engine you can find tdc and the pump gear is of so it won't move.

I think the guy who sold me the 98 tried turning up the fuel but didn't know what he was doing and that might be why the dowel fell out. I drove it straight home after buying it and immediately started restoring the entire engine. My 97 was a lot more clean than my 98 as well. • @97F350Cummins
      @97F350Cummins Рік тому

      When you advance the pump timing you increase the high rpm horsepower. Sometimes you get a little better mpg. Up to a point, don’t go to far. A few degrees maxes a big difference.

  • @CurtisDrew1
    @CurtisDrew1 2 роки тому

    So if you set your degree ring magnet on the pulley as soon as you get the TDC Plunger in and set the wire indicator pointing to zero. Once you pull the TDC cam pin and rotate your engine to find the pumps marker you will be able to see and know your pump is set at 14 degrees or if it's been changed. Correct?
    (I think my engines previous owner monkeyed with the timing!)
    Then it will just be a matter of popping off the timing gear and rotating the engine to the degrees you want to total advance it and will not have any question as to what it's set at, if I understand this correctly. No adding or guesssing as I see it.
    You set this one to 22 degrrees advanced, but I thought I was told that for my 400 HP settings I only needed 18 degrees. So I'll be doing some research before I torque it all back down.
    FYI the pressure bvalves and govenor springs were quite the challenge to do standing on my head using mirrors. Hence me switching to simple back up cameras and a monitor.
    Been a few years since I degreed out my Hot Rod Gas Engines cams, and just making sure I have the total comcept in my head.
    Cuz, I'm about to do mine in my front engine RV and it's going to be a standing on my head job. My plan is to set up small 4 inch back up monitor & camera, p;us a bore camera for the P Pump and do it all by feel and watching the monitors.
    Should be interesting!!!!!

      Timing will depend on where you live to what kind of power you are after?

    In your video you show a piece of wire as a marker for the timing . But on your website your kit does not show the wire . Is this something you have to make yourself ??

      Do you have a 12v Cummins or p-pumped 24v? All the factory pickup truck 1994 thru 1998 12v Cummins have an oil fill/oil cap and tube assembly. This whole assembly can be removed to gain access to the injection pump gear/nut.
