I would laugh when Nightreign releases and ends up being bigger than both Hades 1 and 2 combined in terms of roguelite meat. Think about it: even if we’re lowballing, ignoring returning bosses, and assuming the team is just remixing 1/4 of Elden Ring’s roster... that’s still anywhere between 20~30+ encounters (elite enemies + old bosses) plus 8 original Night Lords. At that point, you’d have to compare it to dedicated boss rush games like Black Myth just to come close. (Also, let’s not forget... how many AAA 3D roguelites even exist? Like what, Returnal? That’s about it, right?) People are also seriously underselling the remixes; just full smooth-brain mode. But here’s the thing: every boss has to handle 3 players with Sekiro-level movement, meaning to make the game playable and difficult they’re getting buffed movesets + upgraded AI just to keep up. Sure, DS3 and base Elden Ring bosses might only need minor tweaks, but DS1 and DS2 bosses? They might as well have remake those from scratch, especially for DS2, since, well... textures. And who knows? FROM might surprise us with extra stuff. Like, didn’t all 8 playable characters have their own storylines? What if this game secretly turns into a visual novel and by the end we are all crying? I have faith this game is going to be, at the very least, a blast to play… assuming FROM actually invested money into fixing their netcode.
You make some great points! Even if a boss is being "reused" I'm sure its getting a updated move set to feel fresh. I'm sure its going to be a stacked boss roster and there will be plenty of encounters. Its true I cant really think of any big budget roguelikes so Its exciting to see what Fromsoft can do! The good ol fromsoft netcode. I am seriously hoping they invest some money into making it better myself lol.
