Ngl, me too. I don’t mind going out in public like some of the people in this comment section but I did love grocery shopping without having to dodge people and carts every 5 steps because it was 2 am lol
When I do go out, it's usually Walmart, Dollar Tree & the gas station for dipping tobacco.. Then I hide in the back of the bus & hurry my a$$ back home very quickly lol.

I've noticed a large group that comes out at noon on Sunday.
As someone who deals with 8AM school-dropoff lines, they're already out by 7:30 at least.

Thats why I love my early shift...In at 3 a.m., skip lunch so my a$$ can be in my car and home by 1130 away from humanity as much as possible

Used to work a 5am to 1:30pm shift years ago. Since I already liked waking up early this was the best ever. Found myself getting home a little after 2pm then just taking the most comfortable afternoon nap in the history of mankind.
That's exactly why I like my shift, in around 11:45pm & gone by 6am at the latest haha.
In 2002, Leicester worked call centers and always chose the graveyard shift.
- Can get to banks
- Can get to stores (and nobody was there)
- No traffic to or from
- Shift differential pay
That shift was the real spirit of America, yet nobody else wanted that shift.
Here in the Midwest the best shift is 6am-2pm

Meeehn...I must have CTE because I can't be on my phone in a waiting room situation. I'm a giggly fuck that wants to hear videos in my ears and I'm talking to my screen. Awful. I'm just there waiting and soaking in the environment and watching their tv and people.

I live in the middle of nowhere in the Welsh countryside. Sometimes I find it nice to go to places with a good amount of people just so I know the fucking world hasn’t ended and I’m out here like I Am Legend

Now that Young Sheldon is off the air we need Young Jim. Episode 1 all about his days of swapping comic books for future profit.
I collected comics from about the age of 12 in the late 80s, living in a small city in Ireland with one decent newsagents and one decent secondhand bookshop. The bookshop sometimes got old American comic books, totally random titles and years, all sold for the same price, some worth face value, some which were in demand. Then, when I was 17, a British comic book/scifi chain opened in my town, and had a deal where you could bring in your old US comic books for cash or credit and my God, I cleaned up. I traded all my face value comics in for credit worth three times what I had paid for them, finally got a copy of Overstreet so I could see what the rarer ones might be worth, and bought so many of the ones I had coveted over the years with my shop credit. I built up an amazing and beloved collection for almost free. So I commend Jim for his spirit of acquisition...although I do feel a little sorry for the other kids, just like the suckers who paid 10 times what I had for third hand comics from my original collection 😂
I'm sure Brian was talking about the check being large in amount, but I'm just imagining him walking in with one of those charity or game show checks

The phone zombies are spooky. Saw a no more than 2 year old kid wander out of the grocery store and into the middle of the car lane. I walked up about 6 feet away also in the middle of the lane (as an adult male I am more visible, but also deathly afraid of other people's small kids in public) So I and the child would hopefully be visible to cars. Mom flustered out of the store stuffing her phone away about 10-15 seconds later and grabbed the kid.
The great irony of course is that I could most of those errands in 20 minutes without encountering anybody because I know how to bank and shop on my smartphone 😁
American banking seems to be 15 years behind the rest of the world. I haven't seen a cheque in well over 10 years.

Our bank - we have a primary teller and a primary mortgage worker. Both tellers recognize the host immediately when he arrives, his car. Don't need to swipe the debit card or anything.
We had ONE incident where the cash machine broke; and they had to work around it, but we have NO problem with small talk. Because the people there are pleasant to work with.
You need to switch banks is all.
For Jim, if you do an autobiography or something, make sure YOU read the audiobook version. It won't feel right if you don't.
But yes, seeing everyone flipping on the phone from 13 to 130 years old is troubling. It's a drug.

@@kyleshertz2277 elsewhere there were people ranting about how prior to 2k, dogs were kept outdoors mostly in doghouses (And some breeds prefer that), and how it's abusive to the animal because the animal is a person. That's why the whole "dog goes everywhere" became a thing.

I get where you’re coming from I have social anxiety and it doesn’t help that I’m ugly and unattractive looking. I get dirty and nasty looks all the time from both men and women. But unfortunately everyone keeps saying “nobody is looking at you or “people are too busy with their own lives to care about you or “it’s all in your head. I can obviously tell the difference between someone looking around and minding their own business and being stared at.

My barbershop had comics when I was a kid but they were the Spire comics. Like, "The Cross & the Switchblade". Christian comics.
Im a local "celebrity" where I live. When I was younger I would go a town and a half over to drink at the bar so I wouldnt have to talk to the same 40 people about high school football and baseball. I couldnt imagine actually being famous.
But then you have to end up talking to all the high school football and baseball fans for the school 90 minutes away from you.
You don't have to be a "celebrity" in a smaller town to know that feeling about talking about the same shit. I live near Niagara Falls, Ontario. It's mostly tourists, so usually new people all the time.

I'm from Italy and i work in a bank, i have the same problems on a daily basis with checks, almost shocked it's the same thing in the us 😅

Left the kids lunch at their school, picked up a prescription, got groceries, picked up a takeout order, and got new bass strings IN UNDER 45 MINUTES on a 3 mile trip in Texas heat.
The barbershop I went to as a kid had Playboy and Penthouse magazines.
Women walk in, pull out a Playboy centerfold and says "Can you cut my hair into that style?"

TBF he does NOT do most of the stuff. Either Stacey does, or the people he hires do. All Jim does is the podcasts, some talking head work on DSOTR, and take trips to the post office to drop off packages.

I never know how to interact with bank tellers and people like that. Do they want the small talk? Are they sick of small talk? Do i feel like making small talk? I tried to notice other people's interactions while i waited in line. No one really says anything, they just stand there. So i just say hi and dont really say anything and it feels awkward.

Those barbershops were still around when i was a kid. I remember the old guys hanging out and smoking cigars. I used to think it was awesome and loved the hot shaving cream shave on my neck, even though there wasn't one hair to cut. Good ol straight razors.

When I first met my girlfriend we had this stand off about preferred days off. She liked the weekend and I like Monday/tuesday. We went out one weekend and we waited in long lines and went to crowded places and spent whole days off waiting. Then she finally took my advice. We went out on a Monday, bright and early. No lines. No waits. Everything’s fresh yet nothings rushed. No traffic. You’re done with all your chores before noon. It just sucks being around tons of people.
I can do everything in Jersey that Jim did in 3.5 miles round trip , in 55 minutes. 😅

I had to take my daughter to the doctor the other day and I brought along a sack of comics for me and a She-Ra book for her. Luckily, I think I was able to read possibly 4 or so pages because they got their act together. It seems I have a short wait when I'm loaded for bear with reading material and I end up waiting forever when I'm unable to bring something with me.

Totally get it regarding the books. I do the same. Don’t agree about the phones though. At least the person on their phone is doing something. Lost track of the amount of times I’ve been on the bus, sometimes for an hour long trip and every other adult on it is just staring into space like a zombie. I have more respect and understanding for the person spending the trip on their phone or the noisy kids gossiping than the grown adult spending multiple hours of their day staring at the ceiling of the bus.
