I'm heading out into Brooklyn NOW to hide the first book I'm giving away: Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed! You can follow along on either Instagram stories or UA-cam stories!
UPDATE: the first book has been found! But I’ll be hiding the other 2 books in the coming weeks so keep checking my stories for details of when and where they’re hidden.
God fucking damn it Ingrid. Making me cry and shit.. You're one of the only people I know of who has been on such a parallel journey with me. I wish I could share with you how many times I've felt less crazy because of something that you uploaded at the very time I was dealing with the exact same thing and coming to the exact same conclusions. Not only that, but we have the same fucking skin type. Thanks for being true to yourself. Xoxo
My deep, savvy, geeky , incredible Ingrid we've grown side by side through a screen year over the years and I am so proud of your path , all these changes and challenges nurtured you and gave you so much wisedom ...Lots of love from France
Girl!!! One of your best videos!!!!!! I'm going to seriously get these books!! Especially the 3rd! I got out of a STRICT church and barely escaped.. so damaged. The crazy thing is I still love God.. the church just altered my view for a bit.. surprisingly I'm more loving and caring now that I'm focusing on myself and my spritual self.. thank you Ingrid!!!!!
Ingrid. I’ve been subbed to you since your coming out video. It was so integral for me to witness, especially at that time in my life. I felt like I saw myself and all of my feelings and unanswered questions about myself were validated in who you were. My life took a severe nosedive around the same time, and watching your videos/listening to your podcast kept me just a little saner through it all. And now that things are evening out a bit, I feel like I’m here with you again, and like you’re helping me come into my own again, and validate even more for me. I love watching you grow, and continuing to grow with your videos. I truly feel that I am a better person for having your words and wisdom in my life. That I choose what makes me happy instead of just going with the flow. That I stick up for myself more. That I feel less alone. I know you were worried about your life on UA-cam awhile ago, but I think you’re creating your own area of the internet. It’s very cozy. 😊💕
Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve loved your videos for a really long time and now more than ever you feel like a friend with really interesting, thoughtful things to share. Thank you for all your content and for continuing to do what feel right for you. I’ve really enjoyed it 💛
I started reading all of Cheryl Strayed's books after you talked about her repeatedly on your podcast... and I just passed on Brave Enough to my mom. ❤
My best friend gave me "Tiny Beautiful Things" about a month after my Dad died last year. Her Dad had passed two months before, and someone gave her the book to help her cope. It really helped both of us during our times of immense grief. When you started talking about book that changed your life, I immediately thought of that book, so when you started talking about it I wasn't surprised. The entry that changed my life is the "My Baby died," towards the beginning of the book. I will never forget the line that helped me. It says "They live on planet Earth. You live on planet my baby died." It truly helped me see how people view loss and grief. Whenever I'm having a bad day, I open that book and re-read certain chapters. Thanks for talking about it Ingrid, it truly is an amazing book that more people should know about!
I’m in a journey right now with anger. Feeling it, expressing it and being ok with being angry with the people who’ve hurt and traumatized me. I know what you meant about anger not being an “ok feeling” in certain homes. My therapist is such a help. 💕 Thank you for the recommendations. I’ll be checking these books out! 💕
The Secret and it’s documentary changed my life honestly. It kickstarted my journey to lead a more positive life, granted I’m no where near the finish line, it’s a process but whenever I feel negative energy, I refer back to that and it immediately brings me back.
I picked up tiny beautiful things on your recommendation a few years ago (I think you had mentioned it on your podcast). It's an intense book but it's really excellent. I think everyone takes something different away from it. I hope you continue to share books on here, you do a great job talking about them. This video was esp vulnerable and (i know this sounds kinda cheesy) but thank you so much for sharing!
I feel like I’ve grown up with you wow. I remember watching your videos on repeat and some of your old videos had really helped me in my late teens/early twenties. Now that I am at a stage in my life where I am breaking down why I am the way I am because of my upbringing and surroundings around me, your videos like this have been just as eye opening as they have in the past and I swear we are always exploring similar things about ourselves and your videos are aligning with my own personal growth and journey. One book that I have loved recently is the other Americans by Laila Lalami and I think you would really enjoy it! It’s a fictional story with character development that includes different perspectives of people of colour. Anyway please do more book videos! 💕
I like that you didn't talk about a ton of books. Probably nearly every book has a small effect on a person, but not a ton of books can really completely change your life and it is clear that these are the ones that have done that for you.
I think a lot of people are scared or are skeptical of therapy and or "self help" things but need to realize that they do not have to fall solo and that they have someone/something that actually cares. They can get help they wouldn't even realize they needed. Thank you🙇 for sharing your part and being great😭😂.
So after watching this video I followed the links to check them out and accidentally hit one click buy for tiny beautiful things... I took it as a sign I needed to read it. I just started reading last night and I can’t put it down! It’s amazing! I’m in a similarly confused place that you mentioned you were in and I’m grabbing so much information that is helpful and comforting! Thanks for sharing this!
When you were talking about not being able to be angry, it reminds me of something that happened to me lately. I was 8 months pregnant and needed to ask my supervisor about adjusting my schedule when I return to work. I was asking about coming to work two hours early so I could pick up my daughter from daycare before the daycare closes. If this didn’t work out, I am out of options for childcare. My boss wouldn’t help me. At all. He wouldn’t even really listen to what I was asking. And the entire time I knew I had to communicate with him in a completely quiet and calm voice bc as a woman, getting frustrated and angry would damn me. And even though I was completely respectful and as calm as I could be, he still told me I seemed “high strung” and “upset.”
I loved this SOOO much. I can’t express my appreciation for how real and transparent you are and the content you share with us. It has inspired me over the years and I read both Tiny Beautiful Things and Brave Enough after you first talked about it on Ladies Who Lunch, and I’m forever grateful. This just inspired me to get back into reading more and prioritizing books and other things that make me feel the most connected to myself again, as in the busy seasons of life and the stress & more tumultuous times take me away from that, when I really need it the most. Thank you for these recommendations and reminders for being an example through this journey, to share little pieces of your own is really helpful and wonderful. I also feel very connected to Tiny Beautiful Things and what you so perfectly recapped about these messages and how it shows you really important elements of human connection and empathy. I completely relate to what you said about your own story and I am still working through very similar feelings and different situations I find myself feeling shameful or afraid in, even after coming out years ago. As I grow up and continue to enter into new spaces, personally and professionally, I fine new areas to really sit with and explore about myself and why things may still be hard for me. Again, thank you. I love this, and I love everything you share from the books to your own words and actions. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Ingrid, it is not an easy thing to do especially on a public platform.... so kudos to you on this video. I am Asian and I do not necessarily agree with one of your earlier comments that Asian women are to do as they are told (like why specifically Asian only??) but certainly I find that prevalent with my mum and grandma’s generation. Having said, I was brought up in a family that we do not really talk about our feelings and that is where I find myself often struggling to communicate my thoughts effectively - I am trying to explore that now. Please continue sharing books or podcasts that help you! I have followed your videos for a while now and your journey in life is certainly inspiring especially amongst youtubers. Keep up the great work 💥💥
I always enjoy your book recommendations. Your sharing of how the books mean a lot to you makes me want to read them! I'm curious about how you usually shop for your books - do you usually order them online or purchase them from physical bookstores? If so, what are your favorite bookstores in NYC? Would love to see a video on that if you're able to film those locations! Lots of love 💕
Thank you, Ingrid! You always get it and come through in such blooming way. I'm picking up all of these books for myself and my twin little sisters (16yo).
Ingrid, I have watched your videos for a LONG time now and I still love them just as much as I used to. You are such an inspiring and uplifting person and I am incredibly proud of how far you have come. I haven’t read any of these books but I’m going to now because I trust your judgement and they sound amazing. I wish I lived in NYC to join the scavenger hunt because that sounds freaking awesome!!! Thank you for this video and all of the ones to come :)
Right there with you on 'Tiny Beautiful Things'. It's such a book of radical empathy and searing kindness that it shook me to my core, and it made me want to be a better, more full person. That book on anger seems like it's speaking to me on a spiritual level; I'm have to start looking around for that one. :)
Hello Ingrid! Thank you for this video! I always checked out your book recommendations and loved each one of them. Can't wait to read these as well. You are amazing and thought me so much about being open and true to myself! Thank you! Lots of love! :*:*:*
Thank you for this video and for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us! I will be going to my local bookstore to pick up a few of these books today! Can't wait!
I keep hearing about how wonderful the artist's way is! You've now got me convinced I need to check out this book haha. Thanks for being the final push! I'm so excited!
Thank God...I am not a mad woman...I am not the Crazy one out ! Everyone has the right to be angry when things aren't the way you want...and need to change like she explains in the video. Thank you for introducing me to these books...specially those 2 about Anger...I want to read them now !
I recently read “Fed Up: Emotional Labor, Women, and the Way Forward” by Gemma Hartley. That book was life changing for me. I would highly recommended you read it. Thanks for this video Ingrid.
I've being eyeing The Artist's Way for a while but after knowing that I won't be allowed to read for a week makes me wanna stay away from that book haha... I feel you so much on that.
Book scavenger hunt sounds so so fun! A bit like what Emma Watson does, I think. Ingrid, I'm generally quite a positive talk person, do you think these books will still make a big impact for me? :)
dawn for life I feel like as you make your way through all of these books you feel comforted, but not everything you read is sunshine and rainbows - especially Tiny Beautiful Things. I feel like they can still make an impact!
Thank you for sharing, Ingrid! I love Tiny Beautiful Things as well. Books that have changed my life: Wild by Cheryl Strayed, Dare to Lead by Brené Brown, the Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff and Girl Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen.
mariam316 it was just a group of acquaintances and friends of friends, not an organized club unfortunately. I hope you find someone or a few people to read it with, but it’s also an impactful on your own too.
Seeing your passion and hearing your stories as related to how these books impacted you was very nice! Thank you for continuing to share and open up to us and with us as you grow, Ingrid! It's beautiful to watch and see! xo
You won't ever know just how much I love you Ingrid 😭 i often feel so lonely and lost, but you have help me immensely!! You're the strong, independent, beautiful lesbian woman i want to become one day
Hi! When you are speaking about the book about anger (specifically where the author details interactions between couples) is that Dance of Anger or Good and Mad? It is a little confusing which book you are talking about and when you (and if) you talk about the second anger book. I would love to read them, so I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks so much!
Great video Ingrid! If you’re interested in reading more about women and anger, I just finished Eloquent Rage by Brittney Cooper. She talks about a lot of things but she really goes into depth about women and anger, specifically from the lense of being a woman of color.

I love how when you talk about something you're passionate about you get teary-eyed. I am the same way.
My deep, savvy, geeky , incredible Ingrid we've grown side by side through a screen year over the years and I am so proud of your path , all these changes and challenges nurtured you and gave you so much wisedom ...Lots of love from France
Ingrid, I feel the same. So much love from VA.
This content is EVERYTHING. Thank you for teaching me so much in 14 min. You're such a great communicator!

I highly recommend you read Women Who Run with the Wolves! That books has significantly affected my life.
To see you talk from your heart and start crying gave me hope I’m currently in hospital so thanks
Thank you for sharing these books, and your feelings about them, with us.

Coming out was also the first step to my self love journey and to be my authentic self and not care what people are going to say about me.
Ingrid I would love to hear about your religious upbringing! I’m also half Asian and raised with both Christianity and Buddhism!

@@ingridnilsen Hey Ingrid, appreciate you taking the time to help me decide which to add to my lists! Thanks lovely =)

Thank you. Just thank you. You are amazing!
I’d love to learn more about the artists way book club. How did you find yours?
mariam316 it was just a group of acquaintances and friends of friends, not an organized club unfortunately. I hope you find someone or a few people to read it with, but it’s also an impactful on your own too.
Seeing your passion and hearing your stories as related to how these books impacted you was very nice! Thank you for continuing to share and open up to us and with us as you grow, Ingrid! It's beautiful to watch and see! xo

thankies💜
I would recommend the book self compassion by Kendra Neff if you haven’t read it!
I just had an epiphany by just listening to this. 🌻🌻🌻
Love the editing of this video!
Excited! I just ordered them.
Apples4241 that’s the Dance of Anger! Hope you enjoy it if you do read it ♥️
@@ingridnilsen Thanks so much! I can't wait to read it!!
I like this video....very genuine. Loved it.
Omg! Thank you for these recommendations!
Love you girl, so inspiring!
Great video!! Would love more book videos.
LOVE YOU!
Great video Ingrid! If you’re interested in reading more about women and anger, I just finished Eloquent Rage by Brittney Cooper. She talks about a lot of things but she really goes into depth about women and anger, specifically from the lense of being a woman of color.
Is that a dress or a top? I love it
Julia Eke it’s a crop top!
I loved your graphics in this video 😊
