- The five original recording members of the Chantels (Arlene Smith, Jackie Landry Jackson, Lois Harris Powell, Sonia Goring Wilson, Renee Minus White) perform their signature hit "Maybe" at the Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Awards Ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California on February 29, 1996. The song was originally released in 1957. This was only the second time the original quintet had reunited to perform together in decades (the first being the 1995 UGHA Hall of Fame). It was also the final live performance by the five originals, as Jackie Jackson died in 1997. This home video recording is from the original Chantels' own archives and is presented for historical purposes.
They are a classy group of ladies! That singer could blow the roof off!
My all time favorite female group that hailed & made real music. I had the pleasure of meeting Arlene & the gals in person at Little Walter's Doowop Concert at Hampton Beach NH 1984. I will treasure that night forever! Thank you Arlene & Chantels.
My favorite female group of all times.❤
My girls They were the top There music is eternal RIP Judy And Singing with the angels
Not only powerful; but truly operatic smooth lead singer --> Arlene Smith. Once in a generation vocal skills; BRAVO. FROM: COOLAVOOHIG, county Cork, republic of Ireland 🇮🇪.
I know one of them passed....maybe they all have by now!!! Beautiful song!! Arlene had the most beautiful voice!
Most beautiful band of all time. Love the CHANTELS!!!!!
The Chantels, [Fellow Bronxites] are a national treasure for competing with the male groups of the era. Their angelic harmonies were perfect and Alan Freed always played their records.
The best of the girl groups, many hits,so soothing
Is that Jackie doing that high soaring Alto in the stratosphere .....my God she and the other ladies were amazing !!!
Angels.in heaven couldn't sound better.
I could listen to this song 24 hours a day!!
Amazing to hear how little they changed in 44 years.
Crying now and every time I hear this song Awesome OMG I love this song ❤❤❤❤

The Chantels are forever...they set the style and substance for all the "girl groups" who followed...
Best ballad ever!!!!

Arlene always leaned into that First note which makes it one the most beautiful ballads of all time
They still sing and sound as good now as they did back in the day, wow!

I think those of us who were there don't really know why it goes so deep.
Still gives me goosebumps!!🎶🎵🎼
Fabulous!
Beautiful ❤
What a terrific ending---just perfect.
I just love that song so much that I really hate to hear it done with a trumpet in there and without that attention grabbing piano intro on the original. I'm not too crazy about that extended ending on this video either. Did they ever cut an LP , I wonder? Wish I had it if so.
They had a couple of albums and a CD called "The Best of The Chantels" that has 16 songs. One of the albums is "We are the Chantels"
Arlene Smith, Patsy Cline....thats it!
