Hi Barry! I received your cookbook for Christmas this past week and I have to say, it's absolutely amazing. I haven't attempted any of the recipes yet, but just from a cursory glance the entire book is so well-put-together and flows really nicely. Thank you for writing and creating it!! I wasn't able to come to your Los Angeles show, but I'd love to attend something if more live events are ever scheduled.
Wow! Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Sorry you weren't able to make the LA show. I know it's a drive but we're going to announce a San Diego show for March 1st shortly (haven't officially rolled it out because the tickets aren't on sale yet.
Thank you so much for the Plus Up Pantry Tour video. That must have taken hours and hours to record and edit. I enjoyed every second of it! This video is great too! The last sandwich with the shaved meat grilled in butter has me intrigued!
Thank you so much! Yeah it was bit of slog but I figure worth doing at least once a year. Btw, here's that sandwich you're referencing: ua-cam.com/video/tRXPxQwAzDw/v-deo.html
I realize these were probably done a week ago so you can relax and enjoy the season, so I might have to wait until the end of next year for this one, but... ...I'd like to see a top 5 pleasantly surprised. Sandwiches that when you read the ingredients, you were cautiously pessimistic, at best, but, somehow worked out.
There's a song by Flight of the Conchords called Jenny that me and my sister like to listen to. It's not incredibly relevant, but at one point they sing the word "sandwiches" in a funny way. Whenever my sister hears someone say the word sandwiches, she immediately sings it in that same way. Anyway, thanks for sharing your passion for sandwiches.
My partner is Belgian and they have such amazing sandwhich culture there, you've already made a few of their "broodje"s and liked them! If you ever feel like trying another one, the Broodje Martino is my favorite, its like a tangy, spicy beef tartare sandwhich! Great video as always!
These sandwiches are a gift to humanity thank you for highlighting them including one that had an ingredient that individually you disagree with. Which is important some ingredients are unpalatable yet when combine with others and cooked (or not) balance to amazing flavors and textures!
Got your book for Christmas and a bread machine, too! Looking forward to trying the recipes, they all look awesome!! Thanks for all you do! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉!
Denmark, as well as neighboring Sweden has a magnificent sandwich culture. Danish smørrebrød (not to be confused with Swedish smörgåsbord, which is a buffet consisting of both cold and hot dishes) is in itself a reason to visit Denmark. All countries have nice sandwiches, but in Scandinavia they tend to be more lavish and luxurious. For example, a Swedish shrimp sandwich when done right contains a mountain of the best shrimps you'll ever taste. The Danish Bøf sandwich is one of many tasty Scandinavian meat dishes, but what really is unique about this part of the world is the seafood! What's the secret? Our waters are colder than most others making all seafood grow at a slower rate, which in its turn makes the flavors more concentrated. I'll never grow tired of Scandinavian seafood! 🇧🇻🇩🇰🇸🇪
@SandwichesofHistory Every sandwich lover should visit Scandinavia! On the other hand, every corner of the world features great sandwiches. Sandwiches truly is a 'universal' food, just like soups and perhaps salads and cakes.
I think it's not just international sandwiches, but as time has passed and more people have ideas, we get better, tastier food. So perhaps a bit of fusion going on as ideas percolate around the world, but also just a matter of more time passing. I think this is true across the board for food. The food we have available now is so much better than a hundred years ago. I cannot imagine what it will be in another hundred years, those lucky people!
Saw more people arguing about whether this or that is a sandwich... ANYTHING between 2 pieces of bread is a sandwich. So yes, a hot dog. Yes, anything in pita bread. NO, not in a tortilla, that's a wrap. Even inedible objects, like if a stapler was in between 2 pieces of bread, that would be a stapler sandwich. I find this to be the easiest way to settle the argument!
Good choices. Please consider posting the name of the sandwich on screen. Looking at these got me wanting to make them...or at least watch the video again.
It hit me today driving to work. I wonder if many of these odd sandwiches are like Taco Bell food for alcohol drinkers back in the day. The absurd combinations of some of them don't seem to make sense. Love your videos.
Another year with wonderful recipes done by you have passed :) but you still refuse to pronounce the döner correctly Barry. Why Barry just whhhhhhhhy? :D
Yeah that's because 99% of the sandwich recipes I make on the daily come from cookbooks from the United States. Believe me, we've got some bangers here too.
Cheers to the next year of Sandwiches of History!

Hey Barry, here's a great (if somewhat complex) idea for a future international sandwich: a Francesinha, from Portugal. Keep doing these great videos!
Got your book for Christmas and a bread machine, too! Looking forward to trying the recipes, they all look awesome!! Thanks for all you do! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉!
Wow! Congrats on the machine and thank you! Hope you enjoy both!
All of these look delicious.

That Indian one looks awesome.
That Turkey sandwich looked so good.
And it doesn't even have turkey in it!

Have you ever made any sandwich from Poland? Keep doing a wonderful job!
Thank you! And yep ua-cam.com/video/z0X5W4Oe2nY/v-deo.html
Pickled beets are great on most sandwiches!
I make pickled beets and onions, lots of onions. The onion slices are great on sandwiches. I make my own because I prefer a sourer pickled beet.
The Mexican sandwich needs raw onions! 😢. I want to make all of these 🤠

Excellent suggestion, thank you!
