They omitted the fadeout, which features a few bars from one of Sibelius' symphonies. The songwriters thought it was in the public domain. It wasn't. The Finnish composer's estate sued and got a chunk of the royalties.
They did what they were told--don't distract from the band. :) To be fair, it's a moody song and they were probably thinking of their own high school crushes.
As opposed to doing what while in a TV studio, in which they are watching a band lip-sync the vocals and pretend to play their unplugged electric instruments?
Not done on the record by the bloke singing/miming here though. Tony Burrows (Flowerpot Men/Edison Lighthouse/Brotherhood of Man/White Plains/Pipkins) did the lead vocal for the record and what you hear here.
Because he neither was interested nor had the time for touring, and preferred studio work. When this became a hit, the producers needed a live act and formed a band with musicians from (f.i.) Edison Lighthouse, the Searchers and The Flowerpot Men. So these guys also did the tv work and we see them here.
@@purselady2 that record was studio recorded with an orchestra, backing singers, and all sorts, probably took a long time, alive attempt would be lame ,
Burrows sang lead on the recrd, but i have a hard time seeing him in this lead singer -- maybe he had split by this time and they had this guy lip sync it. I've seen this guy on other videos and he;s not Burrows -- is he????? Much different face than "Love Grows" videos, where Burrows sang lead, too.
@@ICantStopMakingNoise I think it IS Tony in this video. He's definitely lipsynching but it looks like every picture of Tony I've ever seen. What at incredible voice!
that’s del john singing lead in the video. wikipedia has a decent article about the first claas that explains why the people on the recording that charted aren’t the same people who toured: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_First_Class
wow, to be alive in the 60's and 70's...
Bloody OATH it was!. I was 16 in 1976, met my Missus, still married, the best, most wonderful times.
Classic summer song
ABSOLUTELY 💯

Now that you mention this, I can hear it. Thanks for the interesting tidbit!
Tony Burrows lead singer, again.
Nope
I love it! Great song!!!❤❤❤
Great classic song

Awesome tune 🎶🎶🎶😎😂
I LIKE THE DRUMMERS SHIRT LOL
what ever happened to good music now days
and the audience sat there like being at a Uni lecture

Well produced with a Flowerpot Man on bass .
Robin Shaw?..
Why wasnt Tony Burrows in these videos?? They could make a movie about that guy. I dont get it.

Tony Burrows 5 times a one hit wonder.....
That's not Tony Burrows...
@@tankhalffull
It's Tony Burrows singing the lead but the guy miming in this clip is another singer called Del John.
Where’s the orchestra?
The drummer is wearing the same shirt as Derek Longmuir, the drummer for the Bay City Rollers, wore on the album cover of their first album. Huh.
What, is this a catwalk fashion parade?.
Yeah, I just looked at the album.Same picture on the shirt. Derek's shirt had long sleeves instead though.
Their miming to the record.
how can u tell

Coz' the guy in the black t-shirt is Del John and not Tony Burrows...unless he's had a head transplant.
I was 18.
Whatever happened to del john
Poor Street Baby had to drop down to a Benchmark 45 to get the job done just after the end of September.
Bounce music
So we all know the Tony Burrows story but unless I'm mistaken doesn't this guy "miss-mime" twice in the first 30 seconds! ??
That was the first thing I noticed, girl next door instead of boy next store.
One hit wonder!

Burrows recorded it but never took it out on the road. This guy is just lip syncing.
Great song but the audience looks dead. WTF? hahahahaa
Royal Blue, White Stars, Red and White Striped Sleeves. Electrical Wholesale might Rock?
Look, if we don't see some reflection, I just blame Richard Feynman? lol
could the audience be any more deadpan? And the camera zoomed in on them, almost to accent it??? Huh? Polite?
Tony Burrow did the lead vocal on this, not the guy lip synching it in the video :)
Are you sure that isn't Tony?

Ok, they are obviously lip synching because that singer is NOT Tony Burrows.. Plus where is the horn and string section?
Let Taylor Swift try something like this and she would be a flop. This era could stand on their own.
DONT SEE ANY SECURITY HOLDING THEM BACK LOL
Dead audience!
More lip synching to a track.
It's lame.
It's cheating
It should be illegal.
