What a nice looking minimal lamp! It's like a glowing bubble for your bedroom. Also...This is a really well produced video! I love the close ups in the unboxing and the classy motion graphic titles in the bottom of the screen. Keep up the great work Simon!
Eric Welander thanks a lot! This is a really nice lamp, so I do hope they eventually bring it to Amazon, as some of their products are already on there.
Hi, did you only set it up in HomeKit, or did you also use either the Yeelight or Mi Home apps? I believe there’s a setting in these apps to enable that function.
The only way I can think of is to create an automation in Mi Home or the Yeelight app, and convert that automation to a Siri Shortcut. That means you’d have to use Siri to activate it though.
Jason Ong I think for the bulb socket, the iDevices one is quite good, and includes a separate colour night light. For smart switches, it depends on whether you need one without a neutral wire or not and what kind - EU 86x86 or US size. For a Smart plug, the Vocolinc SmartBar is hard to beat.
Diogo Malha thank you. It does not have a battery, so it can only work from being plugged in, but it uses a USB-C connection for power, so I guess it’s possible to use a power pack like you would use for charging a smartphone.
I have the mibed side lamp, the taller. This one is brighter than mine? I want to buy another lamp...which one should I buy now, another Mibed lamp 2 or this D2
They’re much the same, so it’s down to which type of hands on controls you prefer - on the front, or the sides. The Mi one is brighter, but not by a lot.
I have the version 2 of the Mi/Yeelight (taller version of this one) and I was able to control colour via Google Home (app and voice command) up until a couple of months ago. Now I can only turn it on or off and change brightness levels. ☹️ Can't seem to find a solution, even on the Google Support Community.
I’ll do a couple of tests with mine and let you know if I can find a reason for the issue, and a possible solution. In the meantime, have you checked to see if the firmware is up to date?
Hello! Is smaller version brighter? I got big one and struggling which one to choose for another room. Also, in google home app i Can choose colors, but not brightness 😂 Thank you in advance 👍
Jason Ong it’s a fair question. I don’t personally care too much if someone in China (or anywhere else) knows what colour I choose for my light or when I turn it off, but then with a HomeKit Enabled router will be able to fix issues with devices dialling home.

Thanks for posting! I'm currently looking at upgrading from my Mi Bedside Lamp and I found this video quite helpful in deciding.
Per-Ola Mjömark glad it helped, and thanks for taking the time to comment
.
You sound very happy to review it Simon.
therobnfw I was. It’s a great lamp.
So glad I found your channel. Thank you
Heard about channel from Shane creates. Subscribed.
Rob Episcopo thanks!
Double tapping on the top or on a surface doesn’t work for me. What should I do?

Annoyingly, 100% in HomeKit mode is not as bright as 100% in the Yeelight app. Do you know a ‘fix’ for this?

Looks real dim
What affordable HomeKit enabled/compatible light bulb socket, smart switch and smart outlet do you recommend?

HomeKit News and Reviews I’ll check it out. Thanks

Hi. Very good review.
Does it have a battery or only works if plugged in?
Tks
Diogo Malha thank you. It does not have a battery, so it can only work from being plugged in, but it uses a USB-C connection for power, so I guess it’s possible to use a power pack like you would use for charging a smartphone.
@@homekitnews thank you for the quick answer
Diogo Malha you’re welcome!

Hi, the D2 has less lumens than th Mi Bedside Lamp 2, but as it's smaller, it may seem brighter.
Should I get Xiaomi one or Yeelight version? Looks like the Xiaomi one is better than Yeelight
The Xiaomi one is probably easier to control, but I quite like the size of the Yeelight model, and the hidden controls.
Whats Is Better?
This One or Xiaomi lamp?
Is It compatible with Google home mini?

Can you set it to turn on in the morning at a specific time? I want a smart lamp to help with sleeping rythm in the winter.
Yes, in the Yeelight app there's a preset called Sunrise that will do what you need.
@@homekitnews Thanks! Unfortunately I can't find it under settings.
can u use this lamp without conecting to wifi and the app?
Yes, you can use it just as a physical lamp if you wish, with most of the features available via the on-device controls.
Can it be used with a power bank?
kronos I guess so, as long as you have a USB-C cable and a power bank with enough juice.
@@homekitnews Thanks for the reply.
Are these Chinese HomeKit products worth going into in regards to privacy?

Hello I have a little question :
Does it support the yeelight bluetooth remote control
Hi, unfortunately it doesn’t. The Bluetooth remote will only work with their ceiling lights.
👍
