Can anyone help me out please, i got one a couple of weeks ago but unfortunately I do not have a 2.4ghz wifi but only 5ghz, any help connecting?
Great review. Buying a few of these to put on top of our kitchen cabinets. I'll be controlling them using the Brilliant App which is compatible with Home Kit. We have two power outlets above the cabinets on switches in the kitchen. The brilliant switches have motion detectors and will turn these on when someone enters the kitchen. Super excited to get these lights.

Shortcuts integration is fantastic. Can you port over the effect modes to HK scenes like in the VOCOlinc app?
No, unfortunately it doesn’t expose the “light effect mode” to HomeKit like the VOCOlinc products. I was hoping it would.
I use the eve flare as my bedside light and it gradually gets dimmer in a warm light throughout the evening using automations
That’s awesome! Are you just using a series of time-based automations reducing the brightness throughout the evening?

So. Based on your comments here, as well as in some of your previous videos, there should be some automations that can be associated with this light...
1. You should be able to have simple on/off control that is based on time of day - so that during the morning & daytime the color temp is ‘cool’...then, if you turn it on in the evening, it will be a ‘warm’ color temp.
2. Seems that you could also control it with a Lutron Caseta remote - IF you use your previous tutorial video.

Yes, sounds about right! I love changing/automating the white color temperature of lights base on time of day. This lamp would be great for that but you'll have to set up scenes, automations, or schedules.
And yes, that trick with the Lutron Caseta remote works with any homekit lights or accessories.

Hi mate I’ve just come across your channel and I’m seeing some great content. I’m already in the Apple ecosystem and I’m ready to start my HomeKit experience. What do you recommend to start with? I’m thinking I might wait for the apple pod as there’s rumours a new one is coming out later this year.
Thanks Steven! If you want a HomePod, yea, I might would wait until at least WWDC this summer to see if they announce a new one before dropping the money. But to answer your question...to start, I'd get either a HomePod or an Apple TV if you don't already have one. This will serve as your homekit hub. After that, it's time to have fun and just start wherever you want.
For lighting, I usually recommend replacing wall switches with smart ones where applicable (rather than smart bulbs) and use smart bulbs when there is no wall switch (lamps, etc). Also accent lighting like light strips over/under cabinets, behind beds, etc. can be lots of fun. Adding smart control to home access points is also very useful such as smart garage door, smart locks, etc. Beware when getting started...this can be very addicting. 😀 Good luck!
Great content Shane! Is it possible to create a Philips “wake up” light workflow? On a time schedule go from very low light to bright in half an hour for example?
Thanks Patrick! Yes you should be able to do create a “wake up routine” in the Phillips hue app that will gradually turn on your lights over 30 minutes.
Shane, Patrick, there is a great HomeKit app to do this with any connected lights in the App Store. It’s called Wake Up Light by Andreas Ganske. It’s a very polished app with custom durations and multiple lights. I’m sure the developer would appreciate the shout out if you do a how-to on this.

Thanks Jody. It's max brightness is 400 Lumens. Bright enough, in my opinion, to light a small room or section of a room.

Hi Shane, I’m in the Apple ecosystem and came across your channel. I started to make my home Smart after watching your channel and subscribed to follow it religiously.
I bought this lamp and just want to tell you that I got the music flow to work straight away. I pressed the Music Flow button. It says the music flow only works when the phone and lights are under the same local network. I was on the 2.4ghz network on both. So when I played music on my phone, it worked. Then I transferred the music to my HomePod mini, and it worked too. When I changed my local network to 5ghz, I had to shut down the yeelight app and start music flow again. It worked again too. Maybe, it’s a firmware update since you did this video, that makes it work. Let me know if you’ve got it to work now.
Next project I’m following your step by step instructions is installing LED strip lights under the kitchen cabinets, with a few tweaks. Are you using a RGB or RGBW strip? Which is better?

The light strips I'm using are RGB. My intent for this project was mainly for accent lighting. RGBW would be better if you really want to have those real white temperature adjustments and may be better for functional lighting.

@@ShaneCreates I’m so impressed by this light that I’ve ordered another one. The one I have in the bedroom upstairs is great. And I got an Onvis motion sensor and placed it near the stairs so it switches the lamp on by the time I get upstairs. I used the EVE app to configure conditions, as per your other video. I’ve set it turn ON if it’s OFF and vice versa. However, the onvis motion sensor is still a bit of a hit and miss. When it works sometimes, it’s great, but sometimes it just doesn’t register!! :( Have you had the same experience? Any recommendations?
I wanted to ask you if a motion sensor is really necessary? Since apple products can detect if you’re going up or down stairs, is there a way to pull in that info in somehow to check that condition and determine the action? I think I might know the answer but we’re going to figure it out one day (with your help). I’m from the UK and my name’s Sunny

Looks great! I have some concern about radiation for a bed side lamp. Can it be used without being connected to WiFi as a stand-alone lamp? Would the color and illumination levels still work ?
You should be able to do this. The physical controls on the device allow you to change colors, modes, and brightness.

I loved your video (all of em actually) and ordered two of these. I really like them but they both consistently disconnect from HomeKit after 24 +/- hours. They are the only accessories I have that do this and they each do it. Everything else stays connected just fine. Any idea what might be happening? I have em on the US Server and set to auto update in the Mi Home app (which, FWIW, they stay consistently paired to and available in) Thanks!

Love your vids. On a side note, the pronunciation for mijia is not me hi, the j is pronounce as a j and not a h, as it literally means mi home in Chinese. The actual pronunciation for it is mi jia. Like the word jive, buy replace the ve with a which makes it jia. Hope this sheds some light on its pronunciation. Stay safe!! And keep making good vids
Try copying this word ‘家' into google and tell it to pronounce it in Chinese. Should give you an idea how jia sounds.

Mii and Homekit good cooperation. I will ask for a shortcut. I used the Aqara mini switch and Aqara hub as doorbell, light and sound automation, it was easy enough from the Mi Home App, but now I got the Ring 2 doorbell which works through Hoobs and it also has a push button and a motion sensor icon in Homekit. I like to do light automation but can't you make smart shortcuts so that I can sound out a Aqara Hub or I have to buy a Ring chime?
Unfortunately you cannot sound the Aqara hub using any other devices other than Aqara. That is a limitation with HomeKit. Only the Aqara sensors can trigger the alarm.

That’s correct, it must remain plugged in.
So what are the controls that you get in HomeKit? That was all I came here for really because I’m not interested in all the colours and flashing lights, I just want a sunset and sunrise bedside lamp that can be included into my HomeKit scenes without having to install the Xiaomi application.
If only it had a gaming app (so it matched the colors of your screen) it would be amazing and beat HUE for half the price.
I'm getting 2 anyway just to bling out my gaming desk.

Hi Shane, can you link two of these lamps together? So they both turn on/off etc
So if you have a HomeKit hub, you could setup an automation, that detects when one lamp turns on, and then turns the other one on too, and the same goes for turning off. I think it would get quite complicated very fast automatically matching brightness and colour etc.
Of course, you could always use a HomeKit button that just controls both.
Can the nightlight mode be triggered by a Home app scene? Or just through Siri shortcut? Enjoy your videos. Thanks!
No unfortunately there is not way to control the special scenes/effects like nightlight mode in the home app.

Yes you can if using HomeKit. You can creat a group and control them together.
I know this video came out before the last HomeKit update. Does this light work with adaptive lighting?
No it does not support adaptive lighting in homekit.
Does it have a sunrise option where the brightness slowly change to wake you up? Just like some Philips bed lamps do.

I've had mine for over a year now, and it has been very reliable. Xiaomi/Yeelight/Mijia make some really good products.
That's awesome! I'm really liking this one so far. I think this is the first product I've used made by them, which is funny because I've been using the Mi Home app for quite a while (with the Aqara stuff).

I am unable to setup this lamp. The new lamp is showing only 3 colors yellow , white and blue.
Updated the firmware from the app.
The app is showing "Can't download plugins" on the device card upon setup. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi, I wanted to know if the sunset and sunrise scenarios work for you? When I launch them I stay on a light atmosphere that does not change. Normally sunrise should start from ultra low light to reach full daylight and sunset should start from warm light and decrease in brightness until it goes out completely. I don't know what I'm doing wrong (if I'm doing something wrong ...). Thank you in advance for your return. (I live in France and have a européan version of the lamp)
Hey Julien. I actually haven't tested out the sunrise and sunset presets much. I assumed that they were just pre-set color temperatures and nothing more, but I could be wrong.
@@ShaneCreates hi, I have those pre-set options on all my mi bulbs and for sunset they turn from warm light and fade to réd then shut down. You just have to manually go on the lamp in mi home or yeelight and apply one of those options. You'll see quite quickly if it works. If the light color and brightness doesn't change at all during the 5 first minutes it means that it doesn't work. Thanks

How does the dimensions of this product compared to the Apple HomePod?
They are actually VERY close in size. Great comparison! The lamp may be ever so slightly larger but it’s very close.
Hi Shane I bought 2 couple months ago and they keep disconnecting from WiFi the firmware has been updated on both but hasn’t helped I’ve tried it with yeeliight app a mihome still no difference
That's unfortunate, sorry to hear that. I haven't had many disconnections personally with my yeelight lamps.

Which hue lights? Biggest difference is probably that hue lights require a hub and this doesn’t.

Shane Whatley just got the two I order in today. This thing is simply amazing. It’s one of the easiest accessories to connect to HomeKit. Only thing I wish it was 50% brighter just for my preference. Other than that is simple badass. I can definitely see buying more as future gifts hahah.

I don't think so, this connects via wifi.
Ok, i saw on the Website that is has Bluetooth and for me i would only consider buying when i can use it only with BT. Because i dont have Wifi all the time.
Unfortunately this lamp got some major connecticity issues which came with the latest firmware. Lamp loses its connection to wifi all the time, requiring reboot to set it back up. Problem has persisted for months now and xiaomi/yeelight has been unable to solve the issue.
Interesting, I haven't had any of those issues. Mine has been very stable.
