Thank you for a fantastic new way to enjoy float fishing ☺️
I have never used this method for general fishing but saw it described in one of John Wilson’s books. Looks worth a try.
I’ve also got one of these float rods and have been using it on the Wye for Barbel all season so far. It’s a superb rod and having landed Barbel to 12.6 and Chub over 6lb I can’t rate this rod highly enough. So light and a pleasure to use all day yet powerful enough to control large Barbel in fast water. Can’t wait to use on my Tench campaign next spring too. And the ability to retract the butt section so it fits in a 12 ft rod sleeve makes it so easy to transport. Cheers Mark for a stunning rod !
Thanks Simon for your kind words. It's the kind of rod that until you use it you have no idea how fit for the job it is. A Specialist rod for float fishing. www.MarkTunley.com
Cheers
very similar to fishing a Polaris float, I noticed the float didn’t fall back down whilst playing the fish.
I have one of these rods. Its a fine thing and a pleasure to use. I also like ledger float fishing with it - currently my favoured tactic is to use a running ledger and a lockslide float. Fish bolts against the tension on the line/clutch. Great fun. I’ll have to try the straight bolt rig as Mark described next time I’m out.
Glad you like it David. Cheers. Mark
Hi Mark, Great Film! Inspired me to get out and float fish rather than sat behind a buzzer. Ordered a float
Quick question, I have seen it where a stop knot is placed on line to hold the depth, I am guessing this to allow the float to bob up and down with a bite, whereas no stop knot and a fish pulls it through when it bolts. Prefer your method but do you see indications or just a bolt??
Sorry such a basic question
Cheers
Graham
Hi Graham. That float in the video does show up indication fine as the way the line runs around it gives resistance and shows up the knocks. I've not explained it very well but it work well. Enjoy the fishing
This is what frank warwick talks about awesome way to fish over weed
Yes, exactly, over weed. Such an easy technique to overcome that problem.
Could pva bag with the lead so your adding lots of bait to
Yep, that works.
Do you use afloat stop ?
Sorry for the late reply Stan. No, the float finds it's own depth, simple, like me.
What stops the float sliding to far up the line ?
good question, maybe it just lays flat.?

After a bit of research, the float slides up the line and sits like a normal float , so you have to reset it every cast .
Should make casting a lot easier , great method I will be giving it a go
The float has 3 point of contact to the line. These are "eyes" like in most floats but larger and at particular angles and placements. This allows the float to rise up the line whilst there is no tension and when you tighten up to the float the friction of these placed eyes hold the float in position. No solid, but firm enough. Hope this helps.
