I'm interested in these rods, are they suitable for use with a centrepin, and is the tip ring big enough to pass a slider knot? (A lot of the waters I fish are 10ft+ deep!)
Just ordered myself a pair.😊
The innovator 😊
Very neat.👍🏻
You are the only person i know apart from me who uses helicopter rigs upstream for barbel and chub
Hi everyone, I am mech. Engineer and I can tell you: you are not completely right here! First, about the leverage with static force you are spot on, ok. The second part about the dynamics of forces you miss out! During playing fish, when the fish does a hard turn or a sudden run dynamically, then a bending rod will be forgiving, because, when the rod bends it softens the tension in that moment plus: the more the rod bends the friction between the line and the guides will become less, which helps your clutch working smoothly. Now with a stiff rod: sudden run of the fish, the rod does bend much less. The friction between line and guides stays high (higher angle line to tip guides) your clutch doesn’t go off as easy. What does your rod do? It moves „unbended“ towards the fish on full lever, your hand is the joint for the movement of the rod in that moment. Now, when you calculate the rod weight times the acceleration of the rod you will be stunned how much of momentum of inertia that creates, which means a high force peak on the fish! That’s when hooks get pulled, and not during static load! That‘s why bending rods are forgiving rods with less hook pulls as result! So, you are right about the statics, but only for half of the story without dynamics, resulting in wrong conclusions.
… and now you might think: ok, when the dynamics create such high force peaks, I must feel them more than the fish because of the high leverage of a stiff rod… but that is not true. What you feel in your hand is only a fraction of that force peak, because you just feel the force that goes through the joint of that rod movement in this very Moment, which is your hand. What you do not feel is the force created by the inertia of the rod, because it is a rotational acting momentum around the joint, not through the joint. Means: wirh stiff rods the static forces go to more to the angler (leverage), but the dynamic forces go to the fish and much less to the angler (momentum of inertia). I hope you can follow what I tried to explain. Cheers from Germany

Great videos!! With your view on the 12' 2.5s. Do you think there is a crossover in to the specialist/barbel rod 2.5lb world? Im trying cover all realms without having 15 rods hanging up in the garage. Thanks Mark.
I think 2.25 / 2.50 / 2.75 is a great cross over area (2.50 being the best IMO) that will cover Specialist (Barbel / Chub / Tench / Bream) and Carp type typical fishing styles. I use a 2.50 Harrison Dark Carbon for this cross over stuff. One rod that I can fish say feeders on the river one min and wack 2oz- 3oz carp rigs out the next, along with surface fishing and stalking. Very versatile Hope this helps
Good afternoon Mark what TC rod would yiu use for pva bag and stringer fishing ?
Sorry for the late reply Peter. That very much depend of other factors. How many oz of lead? Distance needed to cast? Size of bag? (I'll assume a large bag in my answers) Well, a 2oz lead and bag casting up say 70yds can be done fine with 2.75tc, but 3oz and bag to well over 100yds will need 3.50tc to do it. Sorry there is no exact answer to your question, because more info is needed. Hope this helps a bit. Cheers.
So do soft tips not absorb lunges? And are you saying soft rods are bad to use because i usr feeder rods on alarms for carp
The answer is very complex, but it works the complete opposite of how nearly everyone thinks it works. Soft tips bend over with little force require and effectively make the rod (lever) shorter so it feel "soft" to you but is putting a large amount to pulling force on the fish. Here is a link to the first video on this matter where I wax lyrical on the subject. The Physics doesn't lie. ua-cam.com/video/qf17UE7nNNU/v-deo.htmlsi=pFk-kfShHldZoHzN Cheers
Just finding your videos. Curious, what kind of chair is thet with the shoulder straps or have your rigged that yourself? If self, how so, at age 60, I need to carrying it on my back as well. Thanks for the videos. Cheers from the US.
The Chair is a UK brand JRC stealth light weigh and I tooks some old rucksack straps and "jerry" rigged it. Cheers
@@marktunleytackletv, thank you. I have now done the same with a Fox chair and mini backpack. Great idea and thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Cool ❤
Are they right handed or do they have the scallop on both sides?
Both Sides
I have 10ft rods & do find they’re like pokers My previous carping was 40 + years ago with lovely bendy fibreglass rods
another great video
What a lovely video, just come across your channel and have subbed, brilliant stuff, wonderful way to fish, I do alot of this style of fishing too, reminds me of when I was younger, being shown how to fish by a brilliant bloke who took me under his wing, cracking stuff, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Thanks Craig, and good fishing to us all. Nice.
Its Peter Jones !! im in 🎣🎣 I'm out !!
I've had so many rods built by Mark, & if I've used other builders which I have done, I rate Mark as the finest builder in the business. And he's a decent chap too!
You must of caught me on a good day, Lol. Very kind.
Really enjoyed this.
I have one of the Specialist float rods and I can happily say it’s a fantastic rod , very light and a pleasure to use , having had very big barbel from the Wye last season to over 12lbs and looking forward to using again this season can’t recommend the rod highly enough ( and say that about all my rods built by Mark - his Dark Carbon Barbel rods are something else too - soo good ! 😊) Thanks for the enjoyable film too Mark 👍
Well now Simon you're just showing off ( 12lb on the float ) Lol. Stop it, you're embarrassing me with all these kind words, people will think I've paid you to say all this lovely stuff....oh yeah, by the way, that money I owe you is on it way, Lol.
Un saludo que distancia hay entre el cebador y el anzuelo sirve ese montaje para carpa ? Muchas gracias 🙏🙋♂️
My lad can chuck 22 wraps with his 12ft 2.75. His mate who is semi pro can chuck 28 from the same rod. So which 13ft aviator should we go for. He has been fishing for years, but hasn't really done any long rang practice other than casting for fish. So there is plenty room for improvement with the right tool and some practice in field.
Very pleased with mine superb fish handling my go to rod on smaller pits when targeting large tench in very weedy areas .
Nice one!
This man needs to run the market standards for carp rods, imagine if they was all label in that way it would be great, walk in get the rod for the job, thats it!. Love it. Good to hear some experienced logical sense for the carp world. Cheers Mark.
Oh, don't let me be in charge, there would be a lot of sh1t hitting the fan. LOL LOL LOL
Thank you...Have you tried bifocal sunglasses? Saves all the swapping around when the fishing is busy.
What about Drennan Accolytes or the Korum glide/super glide?
This Angler and Engineer agrees :) :) :)
You're twisting my melon, man! This blows my mind and does away with everything I thought I knew.. Great video Mark and thanks for going through the trouble, it's appreciated.
It is a mind blower isn't it Luke. Total opposite to what it feels like. Mind blown.
Hi Mark, what blanks would you recommend in 12ft for smaller Bream, tench and specimen roach? Il be using feeders of the 1.5-2oz range to get the distance I need. Thanks, Tom
Hi Tom. Look at the MK1 Multi Tip rods. Gives great options regarding how you can use it, ( On buzzers or quiver tip fishing ) and works perfect upto 2oz ( 60g ) feeders. Here's a link www.marktunley.com/mark-tunley-mk1-specialist-61-c.asp Enjoy the fishing Mark
Marks got to be one of the best rod builders in the game. I love my pair of custom Harrison Avon rods
enjoyed the video.
Thank you for a fantastic new way to enjoy float fishing ☺️
I still use waggles and sticks I made over forty years ago, some of the best winter nights where made up of me and my dad making floats, feeders, droppers re whipping rods, although I lost him in the late 90s every time I open a tackle box I feel close him❤️
Jusr restarting fishing after a 40 plus year break, astonished to see how big the "industry /moneymaking machine" its become re equipment, baits etc. Then I asked about rod and reel recommendations and found you. Great to find someone cutting through the bull and saying it how it is. Thank you.
Just restarted fishing and was a little bamboozled at how it's changed from 40 plus years ago. Stripping it back to basics and this video, like your others have really helped.
It's really great. I really enjoy watching your videos. My friend. Wishing you lots of health and success
Thanks. Hope you're enjoying your fishing. Cheers
What breaking strain line do you have on the light set up, I know from previous videos the heavier one is usually 10lb
On the light set-up Allan I use 6lb mainline, that's the Preston Innovations Float max in 0.23mm which is rather thick for the breaking strain, but I'm a bit of a belt and braces man at times. For the hooklink I use Drennan Supplex in 4lb or 5lb depending on this size/type of fish I'm targeting. As you mentioned on the heavy set-up I'm using 10lb straight through or with a Supplex 8lb hooklink Hope you're enjoying your fishing Allan.
More intro than talk.
Was that a question or a statement? It was a long intro, seemed to go on forever, Lol.
Where did you go?
Nosey aren't you. Lol. Water in the Reading Berkshire area.
Great sequence of clips really enjoyable to watch, thank you
Hi Mark, what would you suggest to varnish rod blanks with ?
Nothing. Sorry to sound flippant, but varnishing a blank to have longevity is very hard, so I prefer no varnish on the carbon, but a spray yacht varnish is most likely the best regarding ease of use and finish. Enjoy
Hooklink is too far from the feeder.
I like the hooklink to be a close to the feeder as possible without the hook being able to come back and catch up in the feeder frame, and it works fine and catches fish in this set-up. Just think about the chod rig used in the carp world, the hook can be fished feet away from the lead and it catches fish like crazy. Cheers.
Do you use afloat stop ?
Sorry for the late reply Stan. No, the float finds it's own depth, simple, like me.
Hi Mark, Great Film! Inspired me to get out and float fish rather than sat behind a buzzer. Ordered a float Quick question, I have seen it where a stop knot is placed on line to hold the depth, I am guessing this to allow the float to bob up and down with a bite, whereas no stop knot and a fish pulls it through when it bolts. Prefer your method but do you see indications or just a bolt?? Sorry such a basic question Cheers Graham
Hi Graham. That float in the video does show up indication fine as the way the line runs around it gives resistance and shows up the knocks. I've not explained it very well but it work well. Enjoy the fishing
Hello Mark. What would the 13'6'' weight be out of interest? I fish the lift for carp (mostly doubles) and hold it all the time.
Hi Richard, 210g +/- 2g. Not super light, but not at all heavy considering the "power".
Yet there’s a shortage of water warning out for this summer…
Good luck!
Thanks, I'll need it for sure.
What music is used in background
Ancient Wind by Noru.
Its interesting that people think you are a star for revealing these things. When I was trying to tell them I was considered an idiot! Just ask Rick Johnson (now of wychwood). The truth is the same BS is pedaled by inadequately experienced so called experts and the entirety of angling (and the angling trade) just follow like sheep. Its good that you are getting a positive response to what amounts to the truth though.
Interesting world isn't it !!
Hi Mark Do test curves change in a rod with age ?
"Test Curve Decay" does happen. Some manufactures suffer a large amount and some very little. It's down to the type of carbons being used and the resin content along with the technique in which the blank is form. Modern high end rods now don't suffer much, so it's all good.
