Even though I was a great Diablo fan, I cant pur the skill in relative terms. But what made this run wasnt only the chainmail, it was the commentary. It was actaully wonderuful to listen to, as the run went along.
I think you are all right. Making runs like this requires it all, great planning with map awareness and all, knowledge of what drops or skills and stuff worth your while, and certain amount of split-second decisions in picking gear or terminate a dead run, as well as some great muscle memory. Most of all it requires a copious amount of time and patience put into it.
That's one of the reasons I love these games. Don't get me wrong, it's cool to see the insane ways people find to skip 90% of a game. But honestly, it's more of a speedrun when you run through the entire game as fast as possible.
A few other things I should add: - D2 also had MAJOR changes done to it in v1.10 vs. v1.09 which affected levelling up drastically such that the Cow Level was no longer the place to run ladders. That being said, I imagine that one of you guys may have run v1.09 at one point or another and could count it as a separate "mod" like category. Even I had to use a mule character back then to make the cow level since in most public cow runs, the cow king usually gets killed unless they're running lightning elemental builds like a Trap Sin (lightning/CB sentry), Javazon (lightning fury and the such), or a Chain/Lightning/Charged Bolt Sorcie like you guys are running now. - Thus, a v1.09 D2 run is definitely a potentially faster speed-run, and since it affects gameplay so much, D2 runs can easily be split into two versions: v1.09/earlier and v1.10/later. - There are plenty of exploits in the earlier versions of the game that you guys might try within the game to run it fast, or use Hero Editor to make a "New Game +" category where you already have legit equipment in your stash (but cannot use it until you meet the level/stat requirement(s) which can be very steep). - v1.09/earlier you can also roll a bunch of cruel colossus blades with chipped gems that I remember being very powerful blue weapons, but getting the mod took a long time, so people would always use chipped gems for currency back then instead of Runes, especially on non-LoD (Yes, classic D2 without the expansion is still playable!). - There's also an "Ubers" exploit in v1.11a or so that got patched which allows you to get instant access to a red portal which leads to Uber Duriel and then Act 5, and it even worked on Classic Diablo 2 characters who had LoD installed so we had Baal runs in Classic D2 back in 2006 or so. - Anyone nowadays can run their own PvPGN Diablo 2 realm and mod server, so this actually gives AGDQ an opportunity to host its own private realm where speed runners can co-op or play against each other, although this would NEVER happen because Blizzard owns the copyright to D2 and would sue you guys, but at least I mentioned it because the D2 community nowadays is dead on the Realms, which are full of Ad Bots and Baal Bots.
Are you being sarcastic? Like the guys on the couch commentary, because the guy playing didn't ever stop talking? Or that the guy playing was just doing really well explaining his play through?
This speedrun actually made me install Diablo 2 again. It's been a long time since I've played the original. We would empty all our inventory and sell any loot available just to get some meager gold lol
They immediately become obsolete if you play online, though... which is my excuse for not knowing that :P And that Telekinesis claims waypoints and gets you through portals?!
+MindLessWiz lol ya I didn't know that... telekinesis was just a standard useless filler skill to me that a sorceress would have. still kinda is, but that is interesting!
Not even for speed runs, just sometimes you get lazy and there is telekinesis, in the original design proposal's terms: give the sorceress's arms and legs a break!
i know im late to the party but hey.. i miss the time when i was 12 and got my first laptop.. playing whole nights of diablo 2 god damn i miss that time haha.
Fun Fact: There WAS a cow level for Diablo: Hellfire, an "expansion" of the original Diablo, but made by Sierra Games. It included new classes, Monk and Barbarian, a few new quests, including the Cow Level, which awarded you the Cow King's Armor, which turned out to be his skin. All in all, I still say that is where Blizzard got the idea for D2's cow level, as well as the legendary drop of the Cow King's set piece(s).
The cow level thing is an old meme. There were rumors that there was a secret area in vanilla Diablo one that you could access by interacting with the cows. And much trolling was done. The Hellfire fight was actually a refrence to the previous trolling.
Watching this after Activision destroyed Blizz a long time ago. A very long time ago. It may have been the big money in WoW sub fees really, then Activision smelled blood in the water.
@@DecibelAlex Blizzard's integrity was compromised soon after the easy WoW sub fee money came rolling in back in the early 2000s. Soon after this, Acti came knocking and totally corrupted what used to be a talented game dev team.
That brute named "Treehead Woodfist". I always loved how those names kinda work in english but sound absolutely ridiculous in spanish. "Puño de madera de la copa del árbol". I remember that one very well. Another hillarious one was a generic one called "Bailarín de la desgracia, el vómito".
Watching this again has made me download get on Diablo 2 again.. and I'm gonna try this run. I've never played as a sorceress before. Anyone got any good build suggestions.
I'm personally an Adept of The Fifth Way--just before reaching the Summoner I'll get distracted by something (i.e.: the water is boiling/the cat is on fire/someone enters the room/ the cat is on fire AGAIN), port back to the waypoint, and move along another part of this damned labyrinth, only to find out that I missed the deranged mage when I finish the fourth part without ever seeing his silly hat.
Holy fuck did Duriel go down quick. He was my bane when I was playing Diablo 2 regularly - I would just constantly die and have to keep popping through a TP to get one more hit on him. I am just flabbergasted how quickly you destroyed him.
"People who've played this game are going like, 'Ugh, I hate Act 2.'" Not me. I love Act 2. It's probably my favorite part of the game. You know what act I don't like so much? Act 5. Not because it's bad, far from it. It's just because the imp enemies that teleport all over the place and take pot shots at you all the time are basically the worst thing ever, especially for a melee character.
I still remember I play this game with 2 vmware and one for my character and one for banker. What I do is I collect gems and i put in the banker, once it full, quit banker, make a backup copy, reload drop everything, copy backup to the banker, loading the game, drop everything, keep repeating to get all the gem max out.

A few other things I should add:
- D2 also had MAJOR changes done to it in v1.10 vs. v1.09 which affected levelling up drastically such that the Cow Level was no longer the place to run ladders. That being said, I imagine that one of you guys may have run v1.09 at one point or another and could count it as a separate "mod" like category. telek makes life that little bit faster in speed runs and some times can even make a speed run if you dont miss
telekinesis just makes things easier. When you clear a map 100 times, you just don't want to walk that 5 meters to the portal.
