Stark does not use lasers to provide thrust. That violates Newton’s Third Law. I saw on an expert physics forum that the best way Stark could build a real life repulsor is the following: Firstly since he doesn’t carry propellant in the suit, the propellant must be out of the suit. This means he is using air molecules. A helicopter uses air to provide upward thrust by forcing it downward, but it does this with blades, somehow Stark does this with electricity. Basically he made a really advanced atmospheric ion thruster. On the sides of the suit’s arms are filtered intake valves that take in air molecules. The air molecules are then bombarded with a high energy electron gun. This strips the air molecules like oxygen and nitrogen of electrons, yielding them a positive charge. They are now positively charged ions. He then provides a path for the ions to travel along a very strong magnetic field towards the palm ejection mechanism. They are guided by strong electromagnets that oppose the positive charge so the ions do not hit the interior walls (doing so would make them lose momentum, and thus thrust). The ejected electrons are then collected in a ground pathway, while the traveling ions are traveling in uniform motion towards the hand since they cannot touch the walls, nor can they touch each other due to having like charges. Now since F=MA, and Tony needs force to allow him to gain upwards thrust, the problem is the mass of these air molecules is small (the “M” in F=MA is small), so he needs to make the acceleration of the ions VERY high. To do this, he needs to supercharge and heat the ions under an even stronger magnet to accelerate them to thousands of meters per second. This plasma is what you see when the repulsors come out. Unfortunately this causes two more engineering problems: 1. Plasma likes to spread out, but Tony needs a focused “column” of the repulsor, in order to be efficient and effective. So he somehow needs to focus the beams directly out and straight. 2. These supercharged ions will be coming out of Tony’s hands smacking against regular air on the outside. Without getting into too much detail, this is bad, and would deafen anyone standing within 1,000 feet, and would damage the integrity of Tony’s suit. Tony, being a genius, solved both of these problems with one engineering solution: A focused vacuum. In each arm, there is a bleeding-edge pressure differentiator running on AC current that is shaped like a small cylinder. When AC current is ran through it, it amplifies a pressure differential into the air shaped like a large cylinder. The larger the current, the larger the pressure differential. Air that is within the pressure differential is forced to the “edges” of the forming cylinder, traveling up and into the pressure differentiator. The effect is a large cylindrical shaped “column” of vacuum emitting from Tony’s hands, completely void of air particles. This way, the supercharged plasma can come out and only travel in that cylinder, and would not have to hit any air molecules on the way out. The vacuum slowly phases out over a few hundred feet, so the repulsor beams can slow down and lose energy without causing a huge explosion. The air compressed and collected in the differentiator is then recycled to use as thrust. So when Tony wants to fly up, the pressure differentiator is switched on in the circuit, causing a vacuum column several hundred feet out. Air is sucked into the valve, ionized, and redirected to his hand via electromagnets. The ions are then superheated and accelerated through a magnetic field and ejected at high speeds through his hands (and feet). The force of the air ejected at high speeds outwards provides a reaction force on Tony upwards, providing thrust. A gyro in the circuit automatically adjusts the angle that the repulsor ejects to perfectly orient Tony upright without his input. A superconductor cooled to near 0 Kelvin helps exhaust excess heat over a large surface area over the suit. Obviously something like this cannot exist without an enormous power source, which the fictional arc reactor would provide. In fact, his repulsor beams would be the most energy intensive mechanism in his suit.
This is a very good and possible theory, but I have a question about a arc reactor. It runs as a nuclear powersource, but it doesnt seem to have a way to transform the energie from the nuclear reaction into electricity. Do you know more about this? I was thinking that maybe because of the circular form of the reactor the elektrons coming from the radioactive core would be propulsed around in the tube, and the copper spools curving around it would use that kinetic energy like a dynamo and thus create electricity. Is this a possible theory?
Max Foissard A scientist kind of looked at the Arc Reactor, here is the article he wrote on it: gizmodo.com/how-iron-mans-arc-reactor-probably-works-1661613682?Feed%3A+gizmodo%2Ffull+%28Gizmodo%29 It’s a Multi-Isotope Radio-Decay Cell. NASA uses something like this with rovers on mars with radioisotope decay cells, they just don’t produce nearly as much power as Tony’s arc reactor, and produce way too much exhaust heat.
What about Tony’s space suit? We never seen him actually fly in space in the movies, but he apparently did make a suit that can fly in space as it was in IronMan 3, part of the iron legion. Also, his thrusters work underwater, as we saw in IronMan 3 again.
Lauren Grant first of all there’s no such thing as a real light saber and 2nd I take back what I said cuz that’s is how a repulsor would most likely work.
To settle everything, the wiki says "The repulsor style of energy is created by taking excess electrons and turning them into muons, which can penetrate deep into atomic matter...by taking in air...an electric current is then run through a section of the gauntlet attached to the plam to create a small amount of plasma. Because of muons electromagnetic properties, the plasma and muons can be fired from the hands and chest..."
Is it possible that the lasers heat up the air in the suit to create plasma? It would take a lot of energy, but plasma fits most of the criterion for the repulsors. Plasma could also be magnetically propelled and manipulated.
Interesting idea! The only thing I could see backfiring is the heating of the suit, metal tends to stay pretty hot for a bit after it's been exposed to heat. Also, please do explain how plasma could be magnetically propelled, I've actually not heard of that before!
Plasma can be magnetically propelled because it is made of ions. Ions are positive and negatively charged atoms along with free flowing electrons. Due to the charge, the plasma can be manipulated by magnetism.
Heating could be a bit of an issue, but you could keep the plasma from coming into direct contact with the suit using the magnetism. Heat would still radiate to the suit, but not as fast as if it was in contact with the suit.
I googled it and found that it works by transforming electrons into muons (that penetrate deep into atomic matter) and then feeding them to the suits palms and chestpiece. I don't know much about that level of physics but I'm pretty sure muons have mass which would hence explain the presence of a force factor when it is used. How electrons are turned into muons, I don't know and it is probably not possible in practice right now. Edit: Just checked and it is possible to make positive muons (and neutrinos) when high-energy protons (>500MeV) are collided into a target of carbon or beryllium. The problem with doing this, far as I know, is that the only practical (not theoretical) method to increase the energy of a proton is to accelerate it until it is travelling at high enough speeds (near light speed). In other words, protons can be turned into muons if you have a spare hadron collider lying around. There are only theories about how electrons could be turned into muons.
The closest thing we have to repulsors are probably ion engines but when it comes to the beam, I don’t really know, but it’s possible that it is just concentrated into a beam by very powerful electromagnets
Maybe his repulsors are a mix between an ion engine and laser. When he wants to fly, he switches to the ion engine setting, when he wants to roast someone, he uses the laser setting.
I have a theory about why the beams are so big. The most suitable laser for the iron man suit is the pulse yag laser but the problem is that the point is usually really small and concentrated and it also has a wavelength that is not visible to humans. But since it is so powerful it breaks down air molecules and turns them into plasma so that is the visibility issue solved and the laser is super powerful it ionizes large quantities of air.
This is not supposed to be a "you got it all whrong you idiot" kind of comment. I'm just saying that the iron man suit uses in fact plasma repulsors and not lasers (ok, he uses them but as a sapparated weapon), lasers don't propel stuff and the hand repulsors are used as stabelisers (that is said in the first iron man movie), and in iron man 2, when Tony visits Vanko in prison, he talks about "ionised plasma channels". So, there you go. Just charing my knowledge on the subject. Happy holidays.
You're spot on with what I thought, too. This plasma propulsion is actually achieved by something called a corona discharge. Watch this video this guy put up: ua-cam.com/video/_BL6-2DOn_8/v-deo.html
Benjamin Connor yea but this would have to be many petawatts to lift the 200+ pounds it weighs and go at supersonic speeds. the only way he would get such power is by burning hydrogen and oxygen in liquid state this has been shown before to have force similar to getting hit by a 90 pound hammer falling from 7 meters or more.
Carlos Arrache Gaming keep in mind. The arc reactor has seemed to have a “limitless supply of power”. That could theoretically provide enough energy for the suit
The repulsers have the ability to move objects and lasers are light so they have no mass therefore not possessing the ability to move objects as the repulsers do.
no, iron man's repulsor rays don't emit lasers they actually emit high concentrations of muon particles, if they emitted lasers then 1. he wouldn't be able to fly because laser's don't produce thrust 2. remember that part in iron man 1 where tony went to save those people from the terrorists using his mark 3 suit, and when he shot them with his repulsors, they went flying backward into walls and even dented them it is extremely likely that tony's repulsor rays emit muons because emitting them in a high concentration and at a high speed would create thrust and would throw someone backwards really far if they came into contact with the blast. plus i think it even says in the marvel wiki that the repulsors emit muon particles
because Iron Man uses muons not photons it has been said in comics and to generate muons you will have to use a particle accelerator his lens helps the muons to produce cherenovak radiation so they can be visible
It cant be lasers because 1. In iron man one he describes them as flight Stabilizers, meaning it has to produce some kind of pushing force, which a laser does not produce 2. Alot of the time when he shoots someone with it, it knocks them back like a concussive blast as opposed to burning right through them. 3. In the avengers it is shown that he has a laser on his gauntlet that acts as a normal burning laser does that functions very differently compared to his repulsor. In short: the repulsor blasters cannot be considered lasers
2 and 3 are correct but lasers do produce a repulsive force. thats the whole reason that solar sails work. it is miniscule but in theory a powerful enough laser can sustain flight, although its extremely unpractical. but i also think this video isnt entirely true to the iron man lore. his repulsors are described as muon beams which is drastically different from lasers.
He has a Cometic repulser laser build into a suit that is a form of thin titanium and made of a nickel-titanium alloy and has other technology and the suit.
Repulsers are NOT laser weapons they are particle beam weapons and here's a link to an actual definition of what a repulser is comicvine.gamespot.com/repulsor-beam/4055-55700/ I do hope this is helpful
I thought of combining a whole load of crap to make a sort of repulsor... I thought about using sound canons, a hydrogen plasma, hydrogen, lasers, muons, and some kind of particle accelerator. Oh yeah, and magnets. Slap it all together, work out a few kinks, use actual science, do some other things, BAM! Repulsor!
Ok so Iron man repulsionors work by transforming Electronics into Muons. The electrons are shot out in a direction before they transform. Upon becoming a Muon they now have a larger mass still traveling at insane speeds leading to things getting knocked down. Muons is a elementary particle similar to the electron with a electric charge but with a greater mass.
Iron man's repulsors are not lasers at all, lasers burn, irradiate, ignite, basically do nothing that Tony Stark's repulsors do. Actually, many of Tony's suits have lasers on the arm as well as repulsors, and you can see the obvious difference between them, Tony's repulsors use intense force. Power has nothing to do with it.
You know what these all are science frictions i mean iron man not only shoots super concentrated plasma but also uses it as a more or less jet engine. For flying With maximum optimization do you all think one device can do all of these,👍 ☺️☺️☺️☺️{Think}
RAMA MUKHERJEE The repulser is made by compressed hydrogen gas being combusted in a small combustion chamber, that aims it in front of the hand this creates force and heat. The hydrogen is extracted from the air, air is made up of hydrogen and oxygen, this is the only way that the repulsores could be made at that level of strength. The only reason I pressed this vid is because I wanted to hear someone else’s take but this is just stupid.
everyone in comments and video r trying to create repulsors based on already existing propulsion technology and with current known energy like electricity. but ignoring the fact that it is not electric it can generate it tho. tonys arc reactor creates 3 gigajoules per second or 3 gigawatts which means it is strong as 3 powerplants. it is obviously a reactor of sum kind. and i dont believe it is literally translated to "arc reactor" i believe it is a made up name consisting from 2 different words. so not a arc reactor but a reactor that involves or creates arc. now same for repulsors i believe it stands for re-pulsor, reactor-propulsion
Also iron mans repulsors are probably rockets because they push stuff away and rockets create high pressures and direct them through nozzles and the gasses that come out are hot. Plus tony. Originally made them to propel him like rockets. But this rockets are not ordinary rockets they are magneto plasma rockets that run on electricity
Hey, I heard your intro song on the radio the other day, and congrats on 1k subs! I was wondering if you can do thor, like , how does he generate electricity through his hammer.
Hey dude! That's awesome by the way, LOVE that song! And thank you so much! :) Also, that honestly sounds like a REALLY good one, I'll make sure to do that sooner rather than later! Good to hear/read from you again! :)
ahahah got u, I'm actually in New York for Halloween well an airport in new York coming back to England haha ill be connecting to airport wifi to watch that!!!!!!
Anyone that knows anything about lasers And plasma Would know that those are not lasers it's Plasma Because whenever he blasts things it doesn't just melt, it gets thrown and light simply cannot do that, although it does carry energy and it does have a very small pushing force, Enough to maybe move a hair Fractions of millimeters If that, So the entire premise of this video is completely pointless Because it's plasma, Not a laser.
I just wanna know how the hell he activates them. He doesn’t seem to do anything special physically, so does he do it in his HUD, like how Stephen Walking talked or something??
Nope. Not lasers. Its thrusts like the ones jet engines produce. If it really were “lasers” he wouldn’t even be able to fly. Repulsors been described as an incredibly hot and speed punch rather than just slicing through like a typical laser system
This is just for the shooting with the repulsors u could create a vacuum that sucks oxygen the. When u close the vacuum it could be connected towards the laser but that way your charging the photons and when u press the button u assigned for the laser it could let out a immense beam of heat but it's just a theory and I am only 12 so yea
I'm not really sure about your theory, because I'm pretty sure that lasers don't help iron man to fly, do they?? Tony Stark initially impleted the repulsor tech in his Jericho missile. So how do u explain flying with the help of lasers?? But the concept is really nice. And very nice video.👍
But would the ionization plasma produce the needed propulsion. The satellite xenon ion drive puts out the force to push a piece of paper so not very much.how much energy would be needed to produce a consistent plasma thrust
It’s just light. How does it move objects instead of burning it if it’s a laser? Sure light can move objects, but not like the repulsers. In conclusion the repulser rays are not lasers, unless lasers can move objects at a rate like that of the repulser rays.
Kyle Hill's "Because Science" actually has 2 videos on this, one about the length of the claws and where'd they fit in the body, the other video about the sharpness of the claws.
Lasers? Come on. Light doesn't have impacting mass. The repulsors have repeatedly been shown imparting impact force to any struck objects. No, it's not lasers, unless he's found a way to add mass to light, which, while it would be a huge paradigm shift for light science, would also require the addition of either an electron or proton or even a neutron (easier to get neutrons, btw) to the light beam. Sadly, this would also give it the property of standing right beneath a nuke going off (regarding being irradiated). So no, it's not a laser. It's something else. Perhaps an electron accelerator (electrons in atoms go around 5million MPH) pushing them up to say 50 percent the speed of light. Tesla spoke of an energy field that could be accessed, throughout the entire universe, and if accessed it would give nearly infinite free energy. He also spoke of Scalar Waves, which are superluminal, and entirely different from radio or sound waves. Just throwing that out there. My theory is, repulsors are a field generator that repels oxygen atoms in the air, or a field that simply breaks apart any molecules with oxygen atoms in the field's effective area. It would then break apart air violently, producing thrust, or would break water apart, producing heat also.
Well this dude knows nothing. If they were lasers, they would have no recoil. But he uses them as propulsion, and to knock enemies away, so they do have recoil, and thus are not lasers.
Hey klyfe i really like your vids but im just wondering if you could do a part 2 of this because lasers??... really? How about the gloves charge up getting power from the arc reactor then that energy is put through a transformer that converts it into plasma shot through the glove and there are electromagnets that conform the plasma into a concentrated beam? hmmm.
stupid video. if it was lazers how does he create shockwaves that knock people back. how does it break glass, how does it create thrust. i dont think it is lazers. i think it is a focused energy that charges up then rapidly exits thru a focused beam like a rocket thruster but with no hole so it builds pressure then releases it
Stark does not use lasers to provide thrust. That violates Newton’s Third Law. I saw on an expert physics forum that the best way Stark could build a real life repulsor is the following:

It's probably plasma also it probably heats up the gas around it to heat up to fly and to heat up a lot of gas to make the blast
Ive seen in the movies people getting knocked back by the repulsors and not burned and lasers dont have force and they burn so
You know what these all are science frictions i mean iron man not only shoots super concentrated plasma but also uses it as a more or less jet engine. For flying With maximum optimization do you all think one device can do all of these,👍
☺️☺️☺️☺️{Think}
The only reason I pressed this vid is because I wanted to hear someone else’s take but this is just stupid.
it's not a laser, it's a pulse of concentrated energy.
everyone in comments and video r trying to create repulsors based on already existing propulsion technology and with current known energy like electricity. but ignoring the fact that it is not electric it can generate it tho. tonys arc reactor creates 3 gigajoules per second or 3 gigawatts which means it is strong as 3 powerplants. it is obviously a reactor of sum kind. and i dont believe it is literally translated to "arc reactor" i believe it is a made up name consisting from 2 different words. so not a arc reactor but a reactor that involves or creates arc. now same for repulsors i believe it stands for re-pulsor, reactor-propulsion
Can we have super jumps like hulk
Thermodynamics disliked that
Please do Cap'n shield. They keep getting it wrong in the film.
Thanks for taking my suggestion you will be big one day
And thank you for the suggestion in the first place, and the compliment! :)
Don't forget about the joker venom suggestion klyfe
How does he get flight then ????????????????
Stupid light has no mass they couldn’t hold him up or create force. They are not lasers
Hey, I heard your intro song on the radio the other day, and congrats on 1k subs! I was wondering if you can do thor, like , how does he generate electricity through his hammer.
Hey dude! That's awesome by the way, LOVE that song! And thank you so
much! :) Also, that honestly sounds like a REALLY good one, I'll make
sure to do that sooner rather than later! Good to hear/read from you
again! :)
KLyfe - Science Behind Superheroes what is the intro song? I've heard it but forgotten the name.
The hammer doesn’t generate lightning he does
Search laser nobel prize 2018
that's so interesting but how does the atom suit work from DC nation
This is pretty fucking interesting. U should have more subs
literally just followed u on Twitter and this comes up hahaha Great as always keep I up
Thank you, and nice timing!
Don't know if you are taking suggestions but ghost rider would be cool and Ik doctor strange is coming for the movie so good video list
LukeR2002
You are PSYCHIC. Cat's outta the bag, I've been planning a Ghost Rider video for Halloween. ;)
ahahah got u, I'm actually in New York for Halloween well an airport in new York coming back to England haha ill be connecting to airport wifi to watch that!!!!!!
Hey man, I won't letcha down!LukeR2002
Every human who watch this vid is worthy to become a superhero (nerd and likes superheroes)Average Superhero;)
My understanding his repulsor rays work with Muons
Anyone that knows anything about lasers And plasma Would know that those are not lasers it's Plasma Because whenever he blasts things it doesn't just melt, it gets thrown and light simply cannot do that, although it does carry energy and it does have a very small pushing force, Enough to maybe move a hair Fractions of millimeters If that, So the entire premise of this video is completely pointless Because it's plasma, Not a laser.
I just wanna know how the hell he activates them. He doesn’t seem to do anything special physically, so does he do it in his HUD, like how Stephen Walking talked or something??
AspyHC probably just connects to his nervous system
How do spiderman's Web fluid and Web shooters works? Can you find it?
It's a muon beam I think?
It's just a radiation blast from his reactor
How does he shoot? i mean, does the repulsor have some sort of trigger within or he has to stretch his hand at a certain position?
Bigbrother3465 Sensors in the gauntlets fire when he flexes his arm muscle for a short period of time.
Nope. Not lasers. Its thrusts like the ones jet engines produce. If it really were “lasers” he wouldn’t even be able to fly. Repulsors been described as an incredibly hot and speed punch rather than just slicing through like a typical laser system
How does the laser propel iron man in the air?
This is just for the shooting with the repulsors u could create a vacuum that sucks oxygen the. When u close the vacuum it could be connected towards the laser but that way your charging the photons and when u press the button u assigned for the laser it could let out a immense beam of heat but it's just a theory and I am only 12 so yea
Do Wolverine Please
Can you do the green lantern next
So why dnt the scientists make ironman suit
This literally doesnt explain how he uses the repulsors to FLY
i think ion propoulsion is a more viable the theory
Elias Binde I'm a🤓 also
Bro lasers cant help you fly, so repulsor isn't a laser but plasma generators
I'm not really sure about your theory, because I'm pretty sure that lasers don't help iron man to fly, do they?? Tony Stark initially impleted the repulsor tech in his Jericho missile. So how do u explain flying with the help of lasers?? But the concept is really nice. And very nice video.👍
But would the ionization plasma produce the needed propulsion. The satellite xenon ion drive puts out the force to push a piece of paper so not very much.how much energy would be needed to produce a consistent plasma thrust
And how do they fly though?
0:27-0:32 What's the name of that movie? Is it captain america civil war?
Make could the infinity gauntlet exist
want to see can iron man be real
sometimed he shoots but it doesn't go through flesh, so, are bullets stronger?
Well it depends on what level of power his repulsor is getting. Bullets are just a hard firing object that shoots out of weapons.
And the chest repulsor shoots through flesh. This was proven by ironman 3 plane scene.
It’s just light. How does it move objects instead of burning it if it’s a laser? Sure light can move objects, but not like the repulsers. In conclusion the repulser rays are not lasers, unless lasers can move objects at a rate like that of the repulser rays.
How about you do a video on Max Steel's turbo energy.
Could doctor strange exist
Why do u use Jump for your intro lol
I dont know how iron man activates his repulsors
the suit responds to his thoughts through a neural interface in his helmet. he just has to think about it.
First of all he talks to the suit, and second of all theirs a trigger like how spider man uses his we shooters
Could you get this put in you hand
can you make a black pants
Wolverines claws
Kyle Hill's "Because Science" actually has 2 videos on this, one about the length of the claws and where'd they fit in the body, the other video about the sharpness of the claws.
If you know everything the you can also make an avengers team Mr.
jolly cutz two bad he doesn’t know
Could captain america exist
how does he fly ?
Could molijner exist (thor's hammer and only the worthy of it can hold it )
Eiad Ibrahim Yo should check out the imaganery axis for that
Awesome
Can we have angel's wings from x men
Lasers?
Look up electric
corona discharge.
do I need a tin foil hat to find it?
davidsirmons is also known as electrohydrodynamic propulsion
Can you pleas Do a video on falcon wings
Yes
why do you disagree
Can superman exist?
Alphyy Yup.
Alphyy of krypton did
This video is so wrong it’s funny
And make Could iron fist exist
Could wolverine exist
Eiad Ibrahim Kinda
Probably not. Injecting the second most strongest metal into your bones would probably shatter them. Let's not forget about the weight.
Only if you have an regeneration power of wolverine. Or else you will die.
Could doc oc exist
Eiad Ibrahim Yes
Could Ant man exist
Well this dude knows nothing. If they were lasers, they would have no recoil. But he uses them as propulsion, and to knock enemies away, so they do have recoil, and thus are not lasers.
Misleading title
Dank
Hey klyfe i really like your vids but im just wondering if you could do a part 2 of this because lasers??... really? How about the gloves charge up getting power from the arc reactor then that energy is put through a transformer that converts it into plasma shot through the glove and there are electromagnets that conform the plasma into a concentrated beam? hmmm.
👌🏼
1:20 Лазер, що дає достатню тягу для підйому 200кг у повітря? 😒 Скоріш за все це якийсь вид плазмово-газової гармати
im God of knowledge
Watching blindly
stupid video. if it was lazers how does he create shockwaves that knock people back. how does it break glass, how does it create thrust. i dont think it is lazers. i think it is a focused energy that charges up then rapidly exits thru a focused beam like a rocket thruster but with no hole so it builds pressure then releases it
I love iron man
