I'm a registered Democrat in Florida. I moved here in 2019 from Massachusetts where I was registered Independent. A HUGE issue is that all of my voter registration information is readily available to the public online. Anybody can type in my name, or address and see my full name, party affiliation, cell phone number, and where I work. It's appalling.
They don't even need my name. They can just Google my street, or even neighborhood, and see lists of everybody's full information by address.
We have door to door Republicans down here who show up to debate why we're registered Democrat, and try to push a switch to register Republican. They're like pushy Jahovah's Witnesses.
That's not unique to Florida. In fact, it's the norm. Same with political contributions. Only a few states keep that info private. Florida is not one of them.

Back in March 2020, a FloridaWoman and Trump supporter, wasArrested after filing nearly 120 false voter registration forms, investigators said. The Lake County Sheriff’s OfficeArrested Cheryl Hall for voter registration fraud.
Authorities said they were able to connect Hall to the falsified documents because of serial numbers on the applications.
Most of the application issues were related to party affiliation changes. Officials said they aren’t sure if the fraud was the result of just one person or if more people are involved.
“Voters begin calling here last week, telling us that they had begun receiving new voter information cards from our office indicating that (they had been changed) from registered Democrats to registered Republican Party members,” said Alan Hays , the Lake County supervisor of elections. "Voters denied filling out that form that would make that change.”
An investigation was launched and found more than 100 false applications. Officials say several of the applications were “completed by someone whose handwriting was almost identical on each of those applications.”
As a general rule, if you want to know what Republicans are guilty of, just pay attention to what they're falsely accusing others of doing.

This year's driver's license renewal form does ask us to check the box if we wanted a new voter registration. It had more to it and it was very unclear for us second language folks. Now seeing these news, I am concerned about what's going to happen to mine since I sent it through the mail. Unbelievable how corrupt this party has become. Shameful indeed.

They did this to my boyfriend when he went to update his CDL with his medical certificate in Marianna, FL tax collector office..... they asked him if he wanted to update his voter registration, which was Democrat, but when it came in the mail they had registered him as a Republican

That's only primaries - and I think they should be closed. In my state in 2008, McCain was a sure winner in the GOP primary, but Hillary and Obama were in a tight race - and tons of Republicans voted for Hillary to stop Obama. Parties are PRIVATE political organizations with the right to choose which candidate they want to represent their party in the election, and NOT have that choice made by people from an opposing party.
Also, they don't require such a declaration. But if you want to vote in party primaries, you have to say which party's primary you want.

That's the difference between "closed" and "open" primaries in states. I disagree with the comment above (the person who supports closed primaries because the two political parties in the country are "private" entities). I'm a registered independent, and I'd prefer OPEN primaries, so I can vote in my state's primaries. But to do that, I need to convince my Republican state government to do that... unlikely, to say the least, since the name of the "game" is POWER.

Gerrymandering and registration laws that effect certain demographics more than others are two of the big ones. More recently, flat out trying to override the election period with bias intervention of ballots, seizure of voting machines, false electors, hypocritical actual voter fraud, and gaslighting the American people on the vice president's powers/authority. Add direct voter registration editing and an insurrection then you'll get how desperate GOP and the Republican party has become.

Our forms have all candidates from all parties listed. You can't vote independent if you don't have all the candidates listed.

As a New Zealander I find it bizarre that you need to be aligned with a party. It should be as simple as walking into a voting centre and anonymously voting, a process that should take less than five minutes. It's nobody else's business who you vote for.

In most states in the USA you can only vote in the primary for the party you choose to affiliate with. That's basically the equivalent of choosing the winner of your party to go against the winner of the other party in the general election.

@@highserenity49 In NZ we have 2 votes per person. One for the local electorate and one for the party. Seats in parliament are allocated one each for the electorates and a number for party votes based on percentage (provided the party got at least 5% of total party votes or won an electoral seat). It provides a much better representation of the general population than the antiquated two party system, although it often means we have Coalition governments.

I live in Florida and I got a letter saying that they were updating their data and asked me to re-register. I went in and saw that I was still in there and all the info was correct and I didn't do anything. I wonder if that is what they were trying to do to me.

I had some of these people come to my door. There were 2 of them with embroidered shirts and caps and I can’t remember what they said on them but they were not easily identifiable. They were speaking very rapidly and I had to stop them and say who are you with. One of the guys pointed to the embroidery on his shirt and I said that means nothing to me, anyone can embroider a shirt. I specifically asked, who are you affiliated with and what is your official role and can I see some official identification. He responded that they were with the Republican Party and I kindly said, not interested, thank you. I even have a sign in front of my house that makes it very obvious that I do not align with right-wing ideologies. The are definitely out here doing this. And for this joke of a governor to boast about having more Republican voters in this state shows exactly how partisan he is and that he is only pandering to that one demographic. He is not serving this state, he’s serving himself. Disgusting.
