Absolutely brilliant ! It is amazing how a few buck equipment can be powerful in the right hands. It only proves that no matter what equipment you own it is only your creativity that limits you. BTW I'm 43 now and just bought few volcas basically inspired what you and others like you doing. Music connect us ! let the music flow ....
@@SlenterendeBeer Because you were a gentleman and share and described your system well enough I was able to connect everything and make it to work ! Now spending nearly every evening trying to Jam. Learning curve is huge but more time spend will benefit in quality of the music. The important thing is to know the concept
Lukasz Nalaskowski : That’s great to hear. I recommend doing deep dives on each Volca individually, it will give you more knowledge about how to control each, so you know better how to make them play together.
@@SlenterendeBeer I have now Sample ,Bass and Keys. Sample was first so I know it well using most of functionalities. The Keys is my big challenge now .The sequencer is simple there. Looking for some hardware midi sequencer that will be cheap and reliable enough. I've fount some vintage roland MC50 to be maybe worth to check but dreams are around some elektron stuff
If I might ask: What cable are using to connect the Volca FM to the MS-70, is it TRS insert (so stereo to dual mono)? I don't think the volca output is true stereo, but I'm not sure whether that means I just use single mono to mono cable.
Very inspiring video. I wanted to try it myself but I'm unable to generate sound on the Korg Volca FM with the MIDI Out of the Poly app. I've selected MIDI Out on the Poly app, also I see the connection to the USB-Midi Port, on my USB-MIDI device the led blinks with outcoming messages but no sound is generated on the Volca. Any idea? Is there some tweak needed on the Poly or on the Volca? Note: I can get other apps to send MIDI to the Volca, just not Poly...
Carlos Oliveira : You need to make sure Poly is sending its MIDI notes to the right channel. So first set the Volca to the channel you want by holding “memory” when turning on the device. Next, go into the Poly settings and set the desired MIDI channel (per instrument / color!) for the Volca. I’ve noticed those settings are not saved in the app, and sometimes they reset when you unplug the USB/MIDI adapter from your iOS device. Hope this helps! :)
Have you noticed an issue when the Zoom is connected to a volca fm at high volume? I have found that playing low-octave notes with the volume knob turned up causes the Zoom to reset itself. This has not been an issue with the other volca I tried (keys).
jba462 : I did not have this specific issue (the resetting I mean), but I did notice clipping and crackling when the FM’s volume is all the way up. The FM’s volume is the highest of all Volcas, I always have to turn it down a little, especially when connected to effects.
Thanks for that. FYI, the resetting problem happens mostly on lower-sounding patches (e.g., "Chewy" Bass with octave at -1 or lower) with the volume turned up more than half way (~3/4 or so). If you decide to replicate this problem, please let me know. I've not seen anyone else report this issue online, so it might just be a problem on my end. I think this might be an impedance issue or possibly a signalling issue (device interpreting audio as reset command?) but I'm not very knowledgeable in this area at all.
That is my current plan as well. I just used the batteries the Zoom came with to start. I'm going to pick up a DC power supply this week to see if that changes anything.
Bayu Setyawan : The iPhone doesn’t have any configuration for this. When it recognizes a supported USB audio interface, it automatically selects it for recording video (and I guess audio too).
Great stuff. As a bit of FYI... I was using a very similar setup to what you have there, but then I replaced the UCA with a Behringer UMC404HD. Amazing difference, and not a lot of money. Latency is really low if you play into iPad live. And 4 ins and 4 outs + DIN midi is a huge plus. Just a suggestion.
jthek2000 : See the description for an explanation of the setup. I connected the Behringer UCA202 audio interface to my iPhone using an Apple USB camera adapter. Hope that helps! :)
jthek2000 : I have used ModStep, for MIDI. And then there are apps that produce sound, but I’m generally not that interested in them, since I have my Volcas that produce sound. I recommend checking out “Perplex On” on UA-cam, he does really cool stuff with iOS music apps. :)
firstperson : Ha, that’s funny - I just bought the MS-50G! Main reason is the distortion and amp model effects. Also, it has all the effects the MS-70CDR has, with the v3 firmware. Any other reasons you don’t like the MS-50G, apart from stereo in?
Actually no, it’s a great pedal, perhaps I’ll keep it and get the MS-70CDR as well. I just need more reverbs and delays right now. The 50 is designed for guitar use obviously (like most pedals). I haven’t fully explored its capabilities. One thing i *was* disappointed by is the Boss DS-1 emulation setting (I think it’s called Dist 1) - it’s very noisy, improved slightly by chaining a gate after it but still quite noticeable . I ended up buying an actual Boss DS-1 for that instead. But no it’s not a bad unit overall.
firstperson : My biggest critique is the sound of the reverbs, they sound too metally and I like a huge decay. That’s why I bought the GFI System Specular Reverb. But the possibility of chaining effects like delays is super cool.
Yep. I'm looking at buying a Boss RE-20. Currently just using an old Midiverb 2 in addition to the MS-50G. I like the SoundToys stuff when I work in Ableton but it's not much use for hardware jams.
And... also nice to see the Poly app - I know it can do some really nice stuff - kinda reminds a "little" of an much older iOS app - "Synth Pond" - though in some ways, I personally thought THAT was much more interesting. It had emitters and reflectors which reacted differently depending upon proximity of position in 2D space... but also allowed for "orbital" structures using those elements - at different speeds... which could make for made for some truly interesting dynamics over time. Simple video I made from WAY back: ua-cam.com/video/YxcYCnT0Vso/v-deo.html

Do you remeber what reverb and delay you used on the 70CDR? Epic sounds btw!!!
Beautiful
Stuart Rochabrunt : Thank you!! :)
Strange, chill, and amazing sound😍👌
Thank you!! :)
I SO loooove FM!!
Great ambient jam! But how did you send MIDI from the iPad to the Volca? Did you use a special interface?
Thanks! I use the iConnectivity iConnectMIDI1. :)
wow - more gorgeousness FUN with this little pedal - LOVE it! Nice work. :)

Very nice jam, inspired sound !
I subbed :-)
Enorasis Project : Thanks!
Lovely!
Michael Hellqvist : Thanks!
very nice!
Thomas Büchel : Thank you! :)
you are welcome! I'm a big fan of the poly app myself and I also love ambient sort of music
Thomas Büchel : Yeah I just discovered the app and it’s great how it adds a new layer of musical possibilities on top of existing instruments!
Cool jam! Btw, can I ask you what driver do you use for the UCA202? I also have this, but the latency on the original driver is worse than ASIO4ALL.
Bayu Setyawan : I’ve never had problems with the drivers, but I’ve only used the UCA202 with an iPhone and a MacBook. :)
Slenterende Beer so you directly connect the uca to iphone? Never try this before, but what does the iphone read/recognize the uca as?
Bayu Setyawan : The iPhone doesn’t have any configuration for this. When it recognizes a supported USB audio interface, it automatically selects it for recording video (and I guess audio too).
Slenterende Beer i should try this. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the suggestion! It does indeed look like a robust machine for a great price. :)
Will the umc404HD get enough power from an iPhone?
and cut this on the flip side... - i mean dear god dude, where do i pre-order?
Erich Nolan Bertussi : Thanks so much man! :D Stay tuned to our social media and you’ll be notified when we release something.
Very nice stuff, what device are you using for USB to MIDI?
alextrastero : Thanks! I use the iConnectivity mio.
Did you need a irig type of device to record w your iPhone? And/or your iPad?
jthek2000 : See the description for an explanation of the setup. I connected the Behringer UCA202 audio interface to my iPhone using an Apple USB camera adapter. Hope that helps! :)
Aha !The Behringer doesn’t need a driver.
What are some other good iOS apps for synths?
jthek2000 : I have used ModStep, for MIDI. And then there are apps that produce sound, but I’m generally not that interested in them, since I have my Volcas that produce sound. I recommend checking out “Perplex On” on UA-cam, he does really cool stuff with iOS music apps. :)
Slenterende Beer I checked out Perplex on.. nice clean sounds. I just want to try the iOS for some different effects and experimentation.
Got an MS-50G and REALLY wish I'd got an MS-70CDR instead. For stereo input to start with. In fact I'm gonna trade it in.

BoomTap : Thank you! We’re not (yet?) on Spotify, but (almost) all of our music is on UA-cam and (sometimes) MixCloud. :)
Which CDR 70 Emulations are you using? This sounds great.
Benj Braman : Thanks! If I recall correctly, this is just the Particle Reverb preset.
Love that preset. If you haven't upgraded to the 2.0 firmware there are a bunch of insane new things added that are totally awesome.
Benj Braman : I have upgraded, but not yet experimented a lot. Which effect / preset are you most excited about? :)
Slicer, SlowATTCK and Random Filter have given me some interesting results. Love Spacehole and Ice Delay too.
Benj Braman : Cool, I’m gonna check those out!

Maximilian Di Gregorio : Thanks!! :)
Is there a way to sync the tempo of your volca to the app through midi?
I actually haven't tried this yet, but yes: Poly can *receive* clock via MIDI.
Slenterende Beer darn, sounds like that's a no-go for the volca then, since it only receives via midi...I wish the app had a clock out
HCFBEE : I agree, that would be best. It’s relatively easy to sync them manually though, since they both have a visual indication of the tempo. :)
!!!
Now I need to buy an FM
Palindrome AU : Do it! It’s wonderful and versatile instrument. :)
