The video we've all been asking for!!! 🙌 As a Soft Dramatic (Sharpened bone structure with Rounded undercurrent), casual dress is one of the trickiest ones for me, and this video was super helpful. For awhile I thought I was mixed type but I think the blended is more accurate for me, with a bit of extra length. I can definitely relate to this problem of looking sloppy quickly and not so easily elegant as the beveled type does. Boyfriend jeans don't really do much for me and neither do sweatpants.
I'm a blended type and I have a really hard time predicting what vibe my outfit will give me. Its like I put on the simplest possible look and I suddenly look like I have a weirdly specific vibe. Fitted t-shirt and shorts with a ponytail and I look like a rich girl playing tennis, plain blue dress and I look like I am going to an office party, cute fall jacket and suddenly I look like a detective. Its so confusing.
I have the same problem sometimes as I can look like I'm wearing a costume. I would really like a one piece jumpsuit but don't bother because I'd end up looking like a janitor or a mechanic.
This is me lol but I love the playful feeling that I'm becoming a character! on the days, I don't want to feel like that, I style the outfit or do my makeup differently to what the vibes would be if that makes sense
I am blended and feel like goldilocks when looking for clothing including shoes. Once I realized this it makes finding clothes and making outfits so much easier.
Dramatic classic (sharpened blended?) here, thank you for perfectly describing life as a blended type!! My workplace is casual, and I'm constantly struggling to find the happy medium between overdressed/"trying too hard" and "just rolled out of bed." It's so validating to hear that acknowledged in the video, plus half the comments are from blended folks talking about the same thing 😂
I'm also soft and beveled and the revelation has been life changing and it came by watching your channel. I appreciate all the work and passion into this!

Thank you for this. Now that we're beginning to get cooler weather, I'd love to see a video on sweaters for the body types. I have great difficulty finding warm, stylish sweaters for my body type, which is also plus-size, that don't make me look like a balloon or a Yeti.
@@merriamstyle I'm ok! These videos are just SO HELPFUL, thank you darling! I still struggle with making hairstyles for rounded types, just always seem to fall into hair for N more then for TR🙈. Could you please talk about shoes for the body type?? I'm curious about tall boots for example, can soft natural use them? And do those types need an special style on those shoes?? Thank you!
Each type can pretty much wear any shoes. You see photos of rounded types wearing pointed toe stilettos all the time (beyonce anyone). I think the shoes really only matter if the rest of the outfit is incredibly subdued. But generally speaking - it follows the same rules. If you want to wear tall boots as a sharpened type; make sure they are well fitted to the leg without any horizontal detail. You'd probably want to cover the knee as well to REALLY blend in with your type. If you want to wear tall boots as a rounded type go for the legging-style tall boot that is made of a soft fabric like velvet or suede that has spandex in it so it really hugs the leg. This style of tall boot with hug the shortened round bones thereby mimicking them. You can also go for some nice small rounded patterns on the boot. For the beveled type you'd really look good in the super tall boot (just like sharpened) except you'd probably want to pick those super slouchy style boots. Mixed type would look really nice in the boots that have the ones with lots of buckles to break up the long line from the tall boot. Classics can go for those super clean leather look boots that lace up the front, just under knee length. Then you just pick the toe depending on your type, sharpened gets pointed toe, rounded gets rounded toe, beveled can rock a square toe, blended an almond toe and mixed would be fine with any. Though all the lines would look fine in an almond toe. As long as you follow your native lines in the rest of your outfit - the shoe will look great. Soft natural would do really great in one of those super soft leather slouchy boots in a mid-lighter brown color so you can really see the shapes from the slouch. Laced up the front would be fine, but a side zip would really allow the slouch of the boot to shine. Soft Natural might want to stay knee height to really play up their soft yang bone structure with yin under current - though they would also do well in even taller boots. Especially those ones that have the back of the boot stop just under the knee, but the front of the boot goes up higher covering the front of the knee.
@@bethanyday3471 thank you so much, I was suspecting I needed the unconstructed type of boot, I was not sure about the height because I'm not tall, finally today after reading your comment I decided to buy a pair of over the knee black suede boots and I love them😊
I am a rounded type (theatrical romantic) and that's why messy buns look horrid on me. 🤣 Also, I support those comments about more content relating body geometry and textured hair. My hair is naturally curly (mostly 3a) and although the big curls suit me, especially now that I am practically frizz free and my hair is healthy, I feel like certain lengths don't suit me as well. I am short (5 3') my lines are on the shorter side of the spectrum but I have waist long hair and I realize it makes me look even shorter. Should I cut it to just below the shoulders?
I love it when you do these kinds of videos. I would like it even more if you would try drawing the types in a more natural way, because most women are an average of 7 1/2 heads tall, Not eight or nine heads tall. I think that it would give women a more realistic idea of what each type looks like in the different lines.
Video request: 🤓😊 Styling recommendations for us in the middle of Blended and Mixed. I feel, there is literally no info about it anywhere to find! That'd be awesome! ❤️❤️❤️ 🤗 ❤️❤️❤️ Thanks so much in advance! 🌹
Which of the body lines are mixed--flamboyant gamine? We're not blended but a mix of sharp & rounded. Thx! You're so good at cutting through the clutter and nailing things down to something people can understand.
Thank you, Merriam, this is very helpful! Your explanation of asymmetry and why it works so well was wonderful!! Something I have noticed as a sharpened type with an hourglass shape and some rounding (by my own best assessment) when sleeve lengths end at the same spot as the hemline of my shirt it creates an unflattering width/horizontal line, like a wide rectangular block. So I have taken to cuffing my sleeves when my shirt length is the same as my sleeve length, or tucking or knotting my shirt. This seems to overrule the full length/no cropped sleeves rule for me personally, but only if the shirt and pants are different colors or tones (which is the majority of the time). I hope that makes sense. I'm wondering if there are any other linear dominant (yang type in Kibbe speak) ladies who have noticed this pattern as well.
Thank you so much for these videos. By comparing the different types and styles you make it really clear, I love your illustrations, so good. I am pretty sure I am a Natural (bevelled) with some dramatic/flamboyant (sharpened) elements. What you say is so true! My best looks have some draping or assymmetric elements too them, I am really looking at creating long lines in outfits now and it does just look right or "natural".
I'm a Dramatic Classic (Sharpened Blended, I think you'd call it?) and I struggle so hard with looking formally put together! Please give us DCs some tips on that! Beveled lines on me look like I'm a slob, Rounded just look horrible, and simple Classic (Blended) lines just make me look boring, like I'm missing a spark.
simplecoffee same here! I’m also a dramatic classic and I too have noticed all the problems you’ve mentioned here. The only thing I’ve found that works for me is keeping my fabric choices on the thicker/stiffer side and getting everything tailored? And staying away from heathered, distressed, and mottled fabrics, and tiny detail. Other than that I feel like I’m shooting in the dark. When I try for bold or crisp lines and accessories it looks like I’m trying too hard. Getting the lines just right is such a balancing act, and I still never feel like I get it quite right.
@@marillaz4582 S A M E. It's really hard to get accessories that are big enough but not so chunky that they start to look tacky on me where they'd look elegant on a Natural, for instance. It's also hard to get just the right amount of edge and/or asymmetry for me - too much symmetry makes me invisible.
simplecoffee omg YES. The “right” amount of chunky is so hard to find 🙄 and getting the right amount of edge without it crossing into FG territory or color blocking and looking cartoonish...ugh. You get my struggle. Lol
Could you make a video on how a beveled type with sharpened undertones could dress in hot climates? I live in Brazil and really struggle with this since I can't realistically wear long sleeves, pants or oversized pieces all the time since the weather gets so warm
With autumn in just a few days, could you do a video on jackets/coats for these types? I feel like I waste so much time trying to find something that will fit nicely.
I need your help ma'am.... I'm a theatrical romantic but my seasonal colour is dark autumn so the style for my body type is completely opposite of my undertone colour what should I have to do please tell my ..... I have very dark hair and eyes very contrasted but same time I have full and round lips and I'm small and delicate Dark I can't wear bcoz of my body type and same time I can't wear light colour or light makeup because of my undertone colour.
I'm in a similar situation so I'll tell you what I do. When Pantone comes out with their seasonal colors list, I look for the colors that match my season or my color recommendations before I start shopping. If it's not my colors this season then I just wait to shop another season. Sometimes it sucks but the added benefit is that when my colors are in, all the shops with their many different styles will have some options available in my color that may work for me. When your colors aren't in season it may mean choosing some of your staple clothing options from your neutral color palette. Also, find shops that specialize in or have a large selection of your body type's clothing options.
So basically, you feel like the colors that match your contrast have too much visual weight for your body type? I don't think this is too much of an issue, but here are some ideas: terracotta/brick/warm burgundy lipsticks with shine/sparkle/gloss; rose gold/copper eyeshadow with sparkle; warm reds, greens, browns etc. in clothing, but with some lightweight materials that will alleviate the visual weight (e.g. silk, satin).
I have the same problem because the weather in my country is very hot and I really can't wear clothes with long sleeves and thing like day most days else I'll just melt
Of course you can! I'm a SN and I love cropped tops, shorts and miniskirts. To follow my lines I use high-waisted short tight in the waist and flowy o the legs, Boat neck flowy crop tops or a wide t shirt tucked in a tight mini skirt. Also, if the climate allows, bulky boots look great with a more feminine outfit
I really love the drawings. But I think showing some examples of the clothing would be sooooo helpful. Because we can clearly see what you mean in the drawings but it can be hard to take our understanding of the lines from your drawings into a real piece of clothing and perhaps how to see the lines of the clothing while it is being model on a type that is not necessarily your own type.
So little attention to blended. 😐 I'm pretty sure I'm soft classic, and for me it's important that my outfit is simple and the lines are clean, but also I feel that some of the recommendations for the rounded type apply to me too: pants need to be fitted at the ankle and cuffs need to be fitted. Otherwise I look messy, like I couldn't care less. Some subtle draping is a nice detail for me as well.
Stuck between beveled and mixed (natural/gamine). I look best with curly hair and casual clothing like workout clothing. It comes natural to me, I look put together. When I try to dress up, I look and feel awkward.
Hi Merriam, thank you so much for your videos! I have really learnt a lot from them and I honestly think you are a genius 😂❤ What do you think about making a couple of videos where you explain the elements of human bone structure precisely? For example, I have a round face but my cheekbones seem to be very small, sharp and not very prominent. So do I have "wide cheeks" or no? 🤯 I think this is the reason why lots of people (me too) just can't make the kibbe test properly / don't understand their body type. I mean because people just don't know what those elements of bone structure really look like.
Melissa - Perhaps my perception of myself or of what I (want to) look like is warped!? 😊 Maybe I'm trying too hard to look a certain way, even though I would look better in different clothing. One thing is for sure, I'm definitely soft natural! There's no doubt, regarding the width/length of my bones and the softness of my flesh... 🙈
Maybe you just don't like clothes with a casual style. I'm a flamboyant natural and I don't enjoy flowy and oversized clothes so much even though I understand why I would receive those recommendations. Personally I just prefer a more heavy look so I often go for more sharpened lines that make my look seem a little heavier
Please could you make a video on Winter Boots for the body types, as a TR I struggle to find a nice pair of boots as most are to chunky or too high etc xxx
I have a hard time to differentiate mixed bones from blended ones especially with soft flesh over it. I also feel like when we are petite it is harder to differentiate soft types from one another as the flesh tend to make bones rounder so soft and mixed are sometimes hard to tell apart from petite soft and beveled and petite soft and blended
Hi Merriam, I really can't fit myself into any of these types or kibbe type. I'm 5 foot 8 and 138Lbs. I have short muscular legs and a long torso with a defined waist toned stomach but a slightly wider hips. My shoulders are broad and blunt and I've a small bust. I put on weight on my thighs and they are both muscular and slightly soft even at my slimmest. I look good in paper bag trousers, in clothes that define my waist and show my hips. I'm 40 now, so although I look good in crop tops I wouldn't wear them. I look best in mom jeans or straight jeans that show my ankles. Skinny jeans/ leggings make my legs look short and muscular but I can wear them with an oversized top which disguises how low to the ground my crotch is. In kibbe tests I get equal B answers and D answers slightly less Cs and no As or Es. Any help appreciated.
Hi! I'm sorry to interfere but your comment made me interested and I looked at your profile. You look like some type of gamine, flamboyant gamine to me (at least on your music video). And it's very unlikely to be natural at 5’2”.
Hi Merriam, I hope you answer my question.. Can an average weight or overweight pear shaped body be a soft classic or the body should be very symmetrical? I hope you answer my question please cause it's really confusing to me .. I can't determine whether I'm soft classic or theatrical romantic cause I'm slightly pear shaped even when losing weight I still be slightly pear shaped I also have a defined bust even when losing weight .I'm 160 cm (5'2") & 72 kg now, I wish you could help me please .. &Thank you very much for your videos 😊 I really love them ❤️ I hope you make more videos 💓💓💓
Maybe I can help: I believe (and I think that's what Merriam and Aly Art tend to say) that any body type can be any shape (apple, pear, hourglass etc.), and it's all about the shape of the bones. So your specific question has more to do with whether your bones are rounded with a few touches of sharpness (TR) or neither distinctly rounded nor very sharp, with soft flesh on top (SC).
Hi Merriam, if I'm a dramatic classic. Does that mean I should take recommendations from the sharp bone structure instead of the blended bone structure? Because my bones structure is Yang but my flesh is classic as a dramatic classic right?
Typically, yang bone structure means you are sharpened / dramatic, but with moderate flesh. That exists in Merriam's system, but not in Kibbe's. Have you considered dramatic/sharpened with moderate flesh as an option? Best example is Cate Blanchett. That would mean your idea of using sharpened lines, instead of classic, is perfect for you.
I have wide shoulders, small chest, a long torso, straight hips, short legs (very short), a large head Does this sound like I fall into blended category?
no, it doesn't. short legs and long torso is not proportional. Do you feel better when you wear relaxed lines or fitted ones? Think about wearing a blouse, would you look/feel better in one that is buttoned up all the way with very defined and sharp shoulders or more relaxed, unbuttoned, maybe falling off one shoulder?
Merriam my chin looks beveled but I am a short Theatrical Romantic ... When I take pic of myself while facing my phone to my chest , I seem to have slightly long legs and I look slightly taller than my actual height which is 5'1 .... It doesn't seem like I have completely rounded lines but the beveled type seems to have a longer vertical line than I do so I am stuck ......
I think crop tops can look very chic on those of us with a long vertical line, if we wear them with matching pants or skirts that are in our own lines! :) I think it's only when we do a color block with them and get the cut of the pants or the skirt wrong that it doesn't work.
Milica OMG! That makes sense. Every time I wear a crop top that is a different color than my bottom and I look sloppy. But I’m going to look into same color on top and bottom. Thank you so much!!!
@@Charla2smart Yeah, I think that's kind of the intuitive thing to do for everyone: we tend to always wear tops and bottoms in colors that go together, but not in the same color. Hi Merriam. I watched this video twice but I'm still confused. I figured out that I am a Theoretical Romantic. However, what type is that? I'm not rounded, beveled or sharp. I don't think I'm blended or mixed. Is there another category?
Theatrical Romantic is under the umbrella of the "Rounded" type in her Body Geometry system. Specifically she calls TR "Rounded with Sharpness." Check out her other videos for more on that if you would like!

Fitted t-shirt and shorts with a ponytail and I look like a rich girl playing tennis, plain blue dress and I look like I am going to an office party, cute fall jacket and suddenly I look like a detective. Its so confusing.
I'd think of it as a good thing because you can be so versatile and represent accurately what the clothes say
I have the same problem sometimes as I can look like I'm wearing a costume. I would really like a one piece jumpsuit but don't bother because I'd end up looking like a janitor or a mechanic.
@@janetteehan8230 Or a teenager who hasn't been home for a week😂
This is me lol but I love the playful feeling that I'm becoming a character! on the days, I don't want to feel like that, I style the outfit or do my makeup differently to what the vibes would be if that makes sense
I really appreciate this, and I love the sketches as opposed to photos.
Me too.
You should do the perfect jeans for different kibbe types/body geometry because I think so many people struggle with this!
I'm so glad you're back! I know you've probably been very busy with Merriam Style Club but I severely miss your UA-cam videos!
Thank you so much for sharing. Very helpful and love the sketches. Love the stories too 😊🌹
Love that you created your own body system and elaborate so much on it!
Lol as a Blended type you described my problems perfectly
I loved this! I find it so much easier to see and understand the concepts when looking at the drawings than looking at actual people. I feel like your drawings are such a great preparation for seeing things in reality.
I love the stories you make up about your drawings.
Completely recognizable!! As beveled type, I often look dressed up intentionally. Great job!!!
So glad for another video! I love your voice and you offer such great perspectives on the types!
i'm so impressed by the knowledge that you have 👏👏👏 i found your channel two days ago and i'm in awe👏 👏 could you make a video with some recommendations for dramatic classics, please? 😊 thanks in advance 😊🌹
Thank you for this.
Now that we're beginning to get cooler weather, I'd love to see a video on sweaters for the body types. I have great difficulty finding warm, stylish sweaters for my body type, which is also plus-size, that don't make me look like a balloon or a Yeti.

hello kotte, I've been good, how are you!!
@@merriamstyle I'm ok! These videos are just SO HELPFUL, thank you darling!
I still struggle with making hairstyles for rounded types, just always seem to fall into hair for N more then for TR🙈. Did you ever make a video on how to choose glasses? Since they are always in our face, I guess that's an important choice🤓🥰
I'm theatrical romantic so I think the first one might work best.
yes I would say so.
As a TR I think ' romantic lines, only tighter and more fitted'
I was going to ask where TR falls under. Mixed type, or rounded type? But I guess the comments helped 😀
@@jinieroses8038 mostly rounded type.
@@kuramacabre Thanks 😀
Thanks for this! 💯 amazing and so accurate for me.
@@bethanyday3471 thank you so much, I was suspecting I needed the unconstructed type of boot, I was not sure about the height because I'm not tall, finally today after reading your comment I decided to buy a pair of over the knee black suede boots and I love them😊
Loved this! I can really see clearly what you say with the drawings.💗
I am a rounded type (theatrical romantic) and that's why messy buns look horrid on me. 🤣
Also, I support those comments about more content relating body geometry and textured hair.

New vid! And it's perfect for me
Sharpened mixed here🙌
Which of the body lines are mixed--flamboyant gamine? We're not blended but a mix of sharp & rounded. Thx! You're so good at cutting through the clutter and nailing things down to something people can understand.
Excellent video 👌very helpful tips
This is the best videos. Thank you ❤️❤️
Great explanations! The drawings really illustrated the points too!
Excellent video!!!
What have the colours to do with the shapes? I'm a plus size romantic and wearing mostly black, baggy clothes. Just wear things you like 😉
I'm in a similar situation so I'll tell you what I do.
Is it possible to show more skin as a beveled? My only problem is that sometimes I feel so covered up.
I have the same problem because the weather in my country is very hot and I really can't wear clothes with long sleeves and thing like day most days else I'll just melt
Yes I do it.. it's a little tricky but it works..
Yes please do boots for the body types!!!!
Nice to see what the ideal loungewear is for Mixed types! What about dresses to wear as loungewear for Mixed types? Is it fine as long as it's fitted?
I guess you can cuff the sleeves and pants in a messy casual way? Lol I'm a blended type so Im not too sure
I’m here early! Love your videos!
So little attention to blended. 😐
I'm pretty sure I'm soft classic, and for me it's important that my outfit is simple and the lines are clean, but also I feel that some of the recommendations for the rounded type apply to me too: pants need to be fitted at the ankle and cuffs need to be fitted. Otherwise I look messy, like I couldn't care less. Some subtle draping is a nice detail for me as well.
It is due to your softness
Yay! Wanted this
Stuck between beveled and mixed (natural/gamine). I look best with curly hair and casual clothing like workout clothing. It comes natural to me, I look put together. When I try to dress up, I look and feel awkward.
Love your videos.
thank you 💕
You look so good 😍
Hi Merriam, thank you so much for your videos!
I'm soft natural and I don't think I look good in casual. 😞 I try to wear classic lines and stiff fabric to avoid looking too casual!
Maybe you are soft dramatic or dramatic classic? 🤔
I’m soft natural and I think I look good in casual. An open necked drapey T-shirt and a pair of joggers and Flipflops and I’m good to go.
Melissa -
Perhaps my perception of myself or of what I (want to) look like is warped!? 😊 Maybe I'm trying too hard to look a certain way, even though I would look better in different clothing. One thing is for sure, I'm definitely soft natural! There's no doubt, regarding the width/length of my bones and the softness of my flesh... 🙈
Maybe you just don't like clothes with a casual style. I'm a flamboyant natural and I don't enjoy flowy and oversized clothes so much even though I understand why I would receive those recommendations. Personally I just prefer a more heavy look so I often go for more sharpened lines that make my look seem a little heavier
Can you do a hair color on olive skin? That would really help!!
I am not an expert like Merriam but: Your description sounds like a MIXED Type to me, no matter which classification system You prefer! 🙂🌸🐁
Hi there! You sound like a mixed type to me, most likely mixed with some softness?
Thanks a million girls, you're legends! I searched some pictures of mixed types (flamboyant gamine) and I think that's spot on x
@@gbosonnet I am so glad!
Hi, could someone please translate Merriam's types into the types how Kibbe called them? I'm a little confused
Rounded=Romantic
Beveled=Natural
Sharpened=Dramatic
Blended=Classic
Mixed=Gamine
@@ritamerrill3227 thank you!!!
You're welcome!
So, for mixed, would they still wear sharp, short lines if they were more long, but rounded? Also, what if you’re wide and short?

14:53 for my future reference as a blended.
Love it! I’m a beveled type myself (Kibbe natural) but I’m only 5’2”. Any insight you might have for us petites would be much appreciated!
Hi! I'm sorry to interfere but your comment made me interested and I looked at your profile. You look like some type of gamine, flamboyant gamine to me (at least on your music video). And it's very unlikely to be natural at 5’2”.

Hi Merriam. Thanks for replying. What would be the differences between Theoretical Romantic and Blended or Mixed?
So your specific question has more to do with whether your bones are rounded with a few touches of sharpness (TR) or neither distinctly rounded nor very sharp, with soft flesh on top (SC).
i loved this!!!!
I am a soft sharp. The sharpened is sleeveless why? What sleeve would best?
Hi Merriam, if I'm a dramatic classic. Does that mean I should take recommendations from the sharp bone structure instead of the blended bone structure? Because my bones structure is Yang but my flesh is classic as a dramatic classic right?
If you are a DC, You are Classic first and than dramatic. First thing you should be looking for is symmetry. Than clean lines & fit 🧡
Blended first and foremost! If you are a DC follow those recommendations and tweak slightly for that added sharpness
Can you give suggest links to dress to find out our body type. I don’t know how to choose the dresses
I have wide shoulders, small chest, a long torso, straight hips, short legs (very short), a large head
Does this sound like I fall into blended category?
Maybe mixed or bevelled
no, it doesn't. short legs and long torso is not proportional. Do you feel better when you wear relaxed lines or fitted ones? Think about wearing a blouse, would you look/feel better in one that is buttoned up all the way with very defined and sharp shoulders or more relaxed, unbuttoned, maybe falling off one shoulder?
Merriam- Around 6:30- I thought asymmetry is a good thing for mixed types, isn't it? thanks for clarifying
Is that lighted birch tree from QVC?
Is it possible to have a bone structure that is different from your Kibble Type ?
Merriam my chin looks beveled but I am a short Theatrical Romantic ... When I take pic of myself while facing my phone to my chest , I seem to have slightly long legs and I look slightly taller than my actual height which is 5'1 .... It doesn't seem like I have completely rounded lines but the beveled type seems to have a longer vertical line than I do so I am stuck ......
What do you mean by the word beveled? What would a SC be classified in this discussion? Thank you!
classics would be blended. beveled is natural
No asymmetry for mixed types?? I’ve heard asymmetry recommended for gamine types, I’m confused!!
Can you be a bevelled but not long or tall. Im a SN but I'm not that tall. I think SN can be moderate in height too
yeah Scarlett Johannson is SN.
What I'm taking away from this video, is that I, a beveled woman CAN wear crop tops if I find one similar to Merriam's sketch 😙
@@milica8979 but.. I don't like monotone looks on myself 😭 thank you for telling me though 💗
@@Charla2smart Yeah, I think that's kind of the intuitive thing to do for everyone: we tend to always wear tops and bottoms in colors that go together, but not in the same color. It wasn't until I learned that I was a Soft Dramatic that I started trying out monochromatic looks, and now I love them, they make me look so much more put together! :-) Glad I could help!
Yay!
