    We moved here 3 years ago and love it! Very cosmopolitan area with a healthy mix of viewpoints. If my political views differ from another person's, I just don't talk politics. The people are the very definition of Southern Hospitality! The mountains and pleathera of waterfalls make it wonderful for hiking and getting outdoors.

    Lived in Greenville most my life. Some cons. There were a lot of racists when I lived there and you'd see a ton of trucks with a confederate flag on them. The nword was used a lot behind closed doors. The snow in the winter can get really bad. I lost control of my 4x4 and almost crashed because my suv was just sliding across the icy road. Harsh marijuana laws. Growing one plant can land you 5 years in prison. Some pros. There wasn't much crime there compared to a lot of places I lived. A lot of woods if you like hiking and nature. Some areas in Greenville are really peaceful to live at and you usually get a lot of land with a property compared to somewhere like California. There's a lot of religious people here mainly Christians, so a lot of people here have morals and values that a lot of people from different cities don't have.

    I'm in the process of moving to Greenville from Houston and have been surprised to see just how expensive the restaurants are there in Greenville. Perhaps they are passing down the cost of that liquor liability insurance. But ouch! I will definitely be cooking more!

    Hello, wonderful video. I love Greenville.
    Hopefully it isn't too liberal? What trends are you seeing regarding folks moving out there? Are most conservative to moderate?
    My wife and I are looking to escape the northeast and considering it down there. We want to escape the woke garbage and assimilate to a conservative area, one that shares our values.
    Thanks for the video!

      Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video! I believe you’ll find Greenville itself to be SOMEWHAT of a mix of views on politics and religion.
      However Greenville and especially it’s suburbs do tend to be occupied by a more conservative population.
      Some trends I’m seeing for folks moving to Greenville involve, seeking a lower cost of living and job opportunities. A lot of families from Texas and California looking here. New York is a close third. If you have any other questions I’d be happy to answer! Thanks for watching!

    Considering moving from Tampa, FL. I wonder what the traffic and cost of living is like comparatively 🤭 feels like it can’t get any worse than we have it now

    • @upstatescliving
      @upstatescliving  Рік тому +1

      Great question! Greenville’s cost of living specifically, is 10% lower than the national average while Tampa is 4% lower than the national average! As far as traffic goes, Greenville has expanded some of it’s highways but still has some issues with congestion. Pros and cons for sure but if you ask MOST locals, the pros heavily outweigh the cons!

    The problem im seeing as a 50 yo native is the influx of people outpacing the ability to keep up. Yes the roads are congested but thats anywhere. We don't have enough goods to service all the people. Need a haircut or a doctor ? Good luck maybe in a couple months. Need gas? Wait in line. Groceries? Lots of empty shelves. Are you hungry? Plan ahead youre going to wait for 2 hours. As far the roads they are laughable but as a native im used to that. But with all the new people that crowd the roads are more wrecks. Im on I85 20 miles twice a day. Theres at least 10 to 20 cars involved in a wreck. Every day. Thats 50 to 100 cars a week. Eh whatever until its you. My wife got rear ended started calling body shops. 3 months out. Can you live without your car for 3 months? If not this might not be the place for you. There's a bunch of parks here that are super nice. Dont forget most of these UA-cam channels are real estate agents selling Greenville to up their commissions. This is a nice a place to live but the US is full of nice places. Theres good and bad in everything. Do i miss old Greenville? A little yes but mostly no. Its much nicer now with more to do. But its still not crazy active. Its definitely an odd mix of new with old. I like it here but i dont think i would move here from somewhere else.

    Greenville is losing it's southern charm. I moved here 33 years ago. It was a very nice place to live. Slower pace, Alot more nature. Now it's just mostly Yankees coming down here (by the way I'm originally from New York) driving up the cost of living trying to make it just like Yankee town. If you don't like it down here go back home. We don't need you. Everywhere I look now they're tearing down every last tree to put up apartments. It's sad. Used to be a beautiful slower paced southern city. Now it just a cut and paste Yankee town. Sad, very sad.

    We spent 10 days in the area during December to see if this was a place to move to. 8 of the 10 days were cloudy and/or rainy. We reeeally missed seeing the sun. Is this typical? Whenever I check the weather in TR, it seems like there are days of rain with little sunshine in between. This is making us rethink moving there. Thanks

    • @upstatescliving
      @upstatescliving  Рік тому

      While we do get rain throughout the year, no sunshine for 8 out of 10 days is a lot even for us. Usually the warmer months are when we see a slight increase in chance of rain (may-august). I’ve personally noticed an increase in rain during this past cold season. Not to defend the upstate THAT much but I’d say it’s not typical. I hate to hear the sun was absent for your trip!
