I have the exact same car and the exact same problem , and I was quoted $2400 and I know that is bull shit so I'm gonna do this shit myself..... Yes I am a woman and I have done two oil changes and two thermostat replacement and I know how to follow directions..... You are a godsend .... Wish me luck .... Friday is my birthday oct 4 2024 so it would be a great birthday present to be able to do this repair by myself successfully.
This happened to my Challenger last month, and sounds like the identical scenario. Was turning into the pharmacy and thought that maybe I might had clipped curb or something when I heard a clunk, but found that the fan went into the radiator. The problem is the bearings go out in the fans, and is probably what happened to yours. It totally sucks and wish that they made some kind of noise or something to give you a warning prior to this happening
@@ryanholiday4329 oh man no kidding, that totally sucks. Well hopefully you have AAA or something, and can get it towed. Like I said in my comment, I wish that the bearings would squel or something and give some kinda warning before it shot through the freaking radiator. I could be pissed at the automaker, but those smaller parts are typically made by outside companies and would not be fair to blame Dodge for it. Actually my SRT8 has almost 90k on her and the only problem I had before that happened, was an alternator at about 70k and has been a great car. Well sorry to hear that this happened, and really sucks to start off the weekend like that
This happened to me today. One fan exploded, every blade broke off. Luckily, it did not penetrate the radiator. New fans are in the future. Ill probably replace both, as the other one may be ready to go as well. Gotta love plastic. SRT8 Challenger
@@shadetreemotorworks8461 Got it fixed. It was pretty easy. Just lifted the fan assembly out from the top after removing the airbox and intake tube. 112 bucks for 2 fans from the dealership.
I know you mentioned road construction for be the possible cause. However, Dodge has a a recall on Challengers & Chargers because the electric fan breaks and in the process sends debris that punctures the radiator.
That has nothing to do with road construction has been going on for years I have/had ( sold for this same reason) 07 Daytona Rt charger same thing happened twice within year fan explodes tears holes into radiator if anyone knows what years this stops let me know…
ShadeTree Motorworks got the new radiator in! After replacing my TB, one of the bolts fell and damaged the radiator and it dumped coolant all over my garage. Appreciate it bro
As far as I know, they used the same radiator for all motors. You would just have to check fitment for your specific year. I know after 2009 they made some changes and they are different than the earlier ones.
I have a 2013 charger srt but quick questions, can transmission radiator also mess up in any way or it’s just radiator because I had the same exact problem all the fluid came out smoke & everything.
Absolutely it can. Just be careful though. In the case of a trans cooler, it will be transmission fluid that is leaking and not coolant. If your transmission runs out of fluid and overheats it will kill it.
Hi there. I have a 2010 RT Challenger. How do you remove those two plastic top trim panels that cover the radiator? Do I need to remove the rivets and remove the plastic hood weatherstripping first before I remove the plastic panels or can I leave it on and remove the panels only? Looking at your video, it looks like you removed the weatherstripping that was held in by the plastic rivets first before you removed those 2 trim panels. Thanks
@@shadetreemotorworks8461 thank you so much that is valuable I'm going to be starting my repairs in about 24 hours. Btw what auto parts store do you recommended getting a radiator, for brick and mortar walk-in same day purchase?
@EvelynEleven-x3x I ordered mine from an online store and used factory parts. That way, I know they fit correctly. Most local parts stores should be able to get what you need. However, they won't be the factory parts, so fitment might not be the same but should still work.
The radiator should be very similar for the R/T. However the R/T's had a single fan setup rather than a dual. Other than that, it should be close to the same.
@@shadetreemotorworks8461 oh ok... my challenger is experiencing some coolant leaking from the front passenger side. I just changed the heater hose, blew the air out of the water pump, the heat came back on immediately and then just out. @@Zeus2517 Depending on the age of the car it might be leaking from the plastic on the ends of the radiators. If you have the ability, you can take it to a radiator shop and have it pressure tested. This can be done with it in or out of the car.

Good game man. About to do this tomorrow.

Good video! Very helpful.
Did you take the fan out by lifting up or pulling down under the car?
Once you unhook everything there is enough room to lift it out from the top.

My friend needs to change his out and the dealer said something about having to remove ac lines and then recharging the ac. Is he padding the fix?
The a/c condenser is in front of the radiator and is not tied in at all. I did not have to touch the a/c system at all.

They are held on by push clips. You just need to gently pull up on them and they pull right out. I did not remove any rivets

ShadeTree Motorworks depends on the years. The early r/t’s came with two.

hello good day, where did you buy the radiator? if you could tell me please
It was a factory replacement I bought from the dealership. There are several companies that make them however.
Was it leaking really bad?
It had a hole big enough to put your finger in.

Why is everybody’s video starting with the radiator on the ground? How did you get it out of the car? This is a silly video.
The radiator at the start of the video is the new one. The damaged one was still in the car. Thanks for watching.
Late hit, but way to avoid how you got the fan in/out. Not helpful at all.
Once you have everything disconnected, you can just pull it straight out of the top. Thanks for watching.
It would've made it a better video if you had used a light .. at least the viewers could've actually saw what the hell was happening
Thanks for the input.
