This video compares the 2 different versions of the Geldopto RGBCCT Zigbee LED Strip Controllers, the 1ID vs the 2ID model.
These controllers work with your Zigbee hubs, like the Philips Hue bridge, Samsung SmartThings, Hubitat and Amazon's Alexa Plus.
We get the question often of what the difference is between the 1ID and 2ID, so we made a quick video to show the differences.
Short overview: The 1ID works with most if not all Zigbee hubs, ( I haven't seen one that it doesn't work with) and shows up as one bulb in the hubs with selectable colors OR whites, as you'd expect like the Philips LED Strips do.
The 2ID controller only works with Philips hue as the other hubs don't see the second ID. It shows up in the Philips Hue hub as 2 bulbs, one color, one tuneable whites. They can be controlled independently and you can have the whites AND colors on at the same time.
Third party devices don't work with Hue Sync, but do work with ScreenBloom and all the third party apps.
Third party devices also don't work with Apple Homekit, but there is a work around that allows them to come over.

If I remember correctly, on a hue controller, if you go with 1ID, you can't have white and color LEDs on at the same time. Which kinda sucks when you need the color to be brighter.

Thanks, I finally understand the difference! I think that the 1ID is better for RGBWW strips, but 2ID is suited for a warm+cool white strip because the app won't show the colour control which does nothing for the white bulb. This is actually exactly what I'm looking for in my kitchen - I don't need colours but adjusting the colour temperature is really nice.
My very 1st light strip and controller was a 2ID, didn't know the difference back then....I do now, thanks. I used to have the lights under my kitchen cabinets. The colour for mood lighting and nightime motion, the white for task lighting, cooking etc....

The reason why 2ID is still cool is, you can create subtle but brighter colors. This is the issue with Gledopto, they opted for more saturation by not using the white LEDs in conjunction with the color LEDs for brighter colors. The colors of the bulbs are way dimmer than Hue, which I had before but sold after getting Gledopto. I had the philips lightstrip too, you could see the white leds turning on with less saturated colors. The thing is, the purples were not as saturated as I wanted. But pinks and reds and oranges were awesome.
I am also using these lights with Homekit through Homebridge, cuz I have a Magichome strip. The homekit white setting is broken, it doesn't turn on the white leds in Gledopto. I am using them for dim accent lighting now. But with 2ID controller, I could create a scene to set brighter colors by using the color and the white together.
I hope they make a brighter color version of bulbs in the future.
Does the Gledopto controller reset everyvtime you turn it off/on, or does it keep the last settings (for example light color or brightness)? I am think of using it with a motion sensor, but I cant find this info.

Not as far as I know. Lifx are addressable, or at least has addressable segments. Hue is just all one color, no variations in segments. There may be a third party app that will help blend the 2, but not directly through Hue. Hue is also Zigbee where lifx is wifi.
I am on my third controller, with the same problem, it's a 1ID compatible with Smartthings. I add it to SThings, but the strips starts to flash, after that there is nothing I could do, I also tried it on a vera, but on that I lose it on the screen and the lights flash again. I have 8-8'Strips connected, I also tried it with only four lights 8'. I am stomped???? At one time it worked on vera for about 10 mins then off we go! if I delete it from smartthings, after that I can't add it back.
Wait so if I get the 1id I cannot have the RGB and the worm or cool white on at the same time? For example I select orange on the colour wheel and orange rgb + the worm white are on (like normal hue lights) is this correct?
Yeah, they don't function exactly as the Hue controllers do. Hue will turn on the warm or cool white to add more light with a color, but it also sort of makes the colors a bit washed out. The Gledopto doesn't turn on the whites when colors are on with the 1ID, but as you move the color wheel more to the middle, it uses the other RGB colors to give you that white effect. So if you choose red, red will be very vibrant at the outside of the wheel, but as you move it in towards the center, it becomes light red to pink until you get all the way to white in the center. But again, that is only with the RGB LED, no whites. Just like your television which doesn't have white LED's, you can create a white with RGB LED's, but it's more of a blue white than pure white. Switching over to the white side on the app will turn on the white LED's and give you warm, cool, or a mixture of the 2 through the Kelvin temperatures. Usually 2700 to 6500.

When at maximum white bright, does the 1ID combine both the "white" from the 3 colour LEDs and the white from the white LED (either cold o warm, depending on the chosen one)?
In 2ID I guess that setting white in the colour ID and white in the white ID I'll get double the brightness. I have to do it manually, yes, but brighter. How is it in the 2ID?
So the 1ID in white will only use the Warm whit and cool white LEDs. The RGBs will be off.
In the 2ID, you can set the RGB's to white and have the Warm and cool white on at the same time.
The issue with that is the RGB white is a bluish white where as the warm and cool whites are more of a pure white.
The LED manufacturer should be able to provide lumens ratings for their strips n cool white, warm white, etc. so you can judge for your self how bright it is.
You are correct, it will be brighter in a 2ID with all of them on, but the color won't be a true white. The RGB white will cast a blue hue to it.

@@richieroar84 You will have more control as you can control the white and color at the same time with a 2ID. With a 1ID, it's either white or color on at 1 time.
Thank you so much for this video but I have some question , Is this working with Hue sync on PC for music sync ?
They don't work with Hue Sync as you can't add any third-party devices to the Hue entertainment zones. However, they do work with many third party apps. I use Hue Dynamic, Hue Disco and Hue Essentials and they work great with those apps for music sync and effects. You just can't add the to entertainment zones, which the third party apps don't use.
I purchased the Gledopto 1ID for my kitchen and paired with SmartThings. However, using the smartthings app you can control the colored (RGB) in realtime. You need to select a color under color control and hit "save" and hope for the best. You also cannot control the warm LED without the Cool staying on. Is this right? Are you using a Hue Hub in order to tweak the colors / whites in real time?
Also, when you are selecting colors in SmartThings the colors are a little dim. Not sure if this is normal.
So I always say, SmartThings is for automations, Hue is for animations. I predominantly use Hue in my house, but I have some bulbs on ST as well. The ST bulbs are more for timed lights, outdoor lights, and automations. (contact sensor turns them on or off). With ST, the device handler will make or break your experience. The whites don't get as warm as they say they will, like 2700k seems more like 3300k . (so the cool whites stay on) But you can change the value in your DH to make the minimum lower, like replacing the 2700k with 2100k. That allows them to get warmer. I personally think that the ST device handler doesn't allow them to get warm enough. ST is kind of like pick and color, hit save, and hope you get close to what you want. That's normal. If you want the animations, lights change to music, different effects, you really need a Hue hub. Once you get a Hue hub, you can use all the third party Hue apps to control them as well.
Oh, and colors will also be dimmer than the whites, by nature. It will depend on the LED strip you use as well. Some are better than others. 24v tends to be a good light output when compared to a 12v.
What power supply are you using with the 2id version? voltage and current?
The power supply will be dictated by the strip you use. The ones I sell need a 24v 6a power supply for a 5M strip with a 2ID. a 1ID, you can go down to a 4 or 5a power supply. If your strip requires 12v, then use that, but I prefer the 24v. Higher wattage, brighter and pulls less current than an equivalent 12v. The formula is watts divided by volts equals amperage needed. You should always go over by 20%-25% of capacity. As an example, these strips are 20w per meter, so 100w for 5M of strip. 100/24=4a at max power. Go to 6a PS to avoid overheating the power supply and give some wiggle room.

What kind of LED strip are you using...I have several 4 pins LED strip with rgbw what should I use?
I have both a Philip's hue controller, and a Smartthings hub. Beside that I'm use Alexa.
What are the best Strip for the controller?
The controller is an RGB CCT controller. Simply, that means all the colors, plus tunable whites, cool to warm white, 2700k to about 6500k. RGBW just gives you one white and you can't adjust it. The Philips Hue Stip is RGB CCT. Personally, I like the strips I have for sale, but I'm out of them right now. While that strip (either 1ID or 2 ID) work with the Philips Hue Sync Box? Will the strip change colors like my Hue bulbs do?
Curious because you said that the 1ID doesn’t turn the LED white, so what happens when there’s a white scene on the TV with the Sunc Box?
HI Jose, Philips won't allow any third party products into their entertainment zone, so no, it doesn't work with Hue Sync since that relies on the entertainment zone.
The 1ID functions like the philips strip and bulbs, you can have either colors or whites, but not at the same time.
The 2ID lets you have whites and colors at the same time since it acts like 2 bulbs in the app.

No, they do one color at a time only. Philips is just starting to come out with the gradient strips and controllers, but these are like the old ones. One color only. And Philips doesn't allow any third party bulbs or strips to be used with their entertainment zones.

I’m definitely using Philips Hue so want the controller that best goes with RGBW (that has separate Cool White bulb on strip)
A 1ID or 2ID is just a preference. If you want both color and white at the same time, get a 2ID. If you want easier control and RGB or White, get a 1ID. The RGBW differences are the same as the RGBCCT here in the video, with just one less white channel. You can't select the white temperature like you can with an RGBCCT.
I have tried and tried to use the RGB CCT 2ID with Smartthings. It links up in the Smartthings app and even automatically comes up in the Alexa app. I can control the RGB bulb (change color, dim, on/off) within both apps, but I can't get either app to control the white bulbs. The white bulbs stay on no matter what. What am I doing wrong? The LED strips are "LEDENET RGB W WW 24V Flexible LED Strip Lighting Full Color Changing Color Temperature Adjustable Cold White Warm White CCT RGB LED"
The 2 ID only works well with the Hue hub. All the others don't see both channels. The best for anything other than Hue is the 1ID. You're not doing anything wrong, that's a functionality constraint.
Can you recomend any cheap but very good quality bulbs compatible with Philips Hue bridge? Supported by Philips? Osram? etc
I use the Gledopto bulbs. Good quality if not the cheapest ones available.
How can I tell the difference between the 1ID and 2ID when ordering without simply having to trust that the seller knows their stuff? Is there any visual markers that distinguish one from the other? PS...Thanks for making this video...it was very helpful!
You just hit the nail on the head. There is no way to tell. They have started marking the boxes 1ID or 2ID when they make them, but there is no way to tell which is which if it's not marked.
As a seller, I will write on the box 2ID if it's a 2ID, but they look identical and the part numbers are the same as well. I usually check a couple out of each shipment by hooking them up to my hub and seeing if they come up as 1 or 2 just to make sure.
Can the Gledopto controller be connected to Aqara zigbee hub or straight with Apple HomeKit wit a HomePod mini?
Aqara, yes, HomeKit, no. You need a Zigbee hub to control them.

2 questions:
1) I am working on a led-strip setup at home, looking to get plenty of light intensity from a fixed led-strip footprint (meaning that I cannot just add more strip area, to get more light) and getting CCT. When using my current controller (no name, model no: HL929-Z-RGBCW-5C-IA-OTA-3.0) I am pretty sure it only allows 100% effect to be SHARED between the cold and white LEDs, ie, 50/50 in center and 100/0 each end of spectrum. Never a 100/100 setting with both colours getting full power. How is the Gledopto dealing with that?
Is the only work around to get a 2ID controller, and "hack" the setup, giving each colour its own ID?
2) The Gledopto Pro - does it also come in 1 and 2 ID versions? What functionality does the "pro" add?
Good questions.
1. I'm not sure. It may be better to ask the manufacturer directly. From a quick eye test, I believe it acts the same as yours, 100 on WW, 50/50 split on both then 100 on CW.
2. Pro adds the radio frequency functionality meaning yo can use their radio frequency remotes to control it or Zigbee. It also changes the Zigbee protocol from Zigbee Light Link to Zigbee 3.0.

Is there any way you know of that I can get the 1id controller and put a regular wall switch in to turn it on and off if I have to take apart the board and solder that's fine I did that with my son off switches and just modified a decora switch to a momentary push button but I'm not so sure I can do that with this if not do you know any products that will give me rgb cct control and have a switch out I just want to control my under cabinet lights from a switch when I walk on the room and if I want to change brightness or color I can use voice but I have to also be able to turn the lights on with the controller if the switch is off
The easiest way of doing that is with a Hue Dimmer switch. I use those in all the rooms of my house for an easy on off switch, but leaves the physical switch on so it can still be controlled via app, schedule or voice if they're off.

@@PeterTrimboli Good question, with ST, you'd need a switch that works with ST directly. With ST hardware being in a transition period right now, I don't know if you can find a ST button anymore, but there are manufacturers that make zigbee switches that work with ST directly. Aqara and Sonoff come to mind as a good alternative and they're cheaper than the Hue dimmer. I'd imagine a Zwave switch would also work as the switch just tells the hub to turn the lights on and off through ST and doesn't connect directly with the controller. Look into using a Sonoff or Aqara switch as they would give you the same functionality as the Hue, but without the Hue hub. Aeotec is taking over making ST hardware, but I haven't seen a new Aeotec button yet. Doesn't mean it's not out yet, just that I haven't seen it.
Can I use the 2ID the same way as the 1ID, i.e. only add one of the IDs to my app so it behaves the same way as the 1ID version?
No, it wouldn't perform as the 1 ID does. The 2 IDs are one for color, one for white. So if you only added one, you would have to choose either the white or color to include and you wouldn't be able to control the other one at all.

Reason I'm asking is I found a slightly cheaper offer online for the Gledopto controller but form the description and reviews it's not clear whether it's the 1ID or 2ID... It's therefore worth spending a tad more to get what I need. Your video helped a lot clearing things up. Keep it up
@@MacFankS yeah, they're very different in functionality and they look identical. Only sometimes on the box will it be marked 1ID or 2ID. Make sure to get the one you want.
I've been using the 1id and 2 id for several months. My feedback is that the 1id is more accurate in Philips hue app especially on the scenes presets. On the 2id when you switch on the dimmer hue the presets it has a lot of issues.
Also when pairing the 2id with the philios tv entertainment mode it will not work as good as 1id.
My opinion is that 2id is just good because of the light output power. That's all

Yes, but 10M is about all you want to do maximum. It would also depend on your amp draw of the strips. If you used 2 of our strips, you'd be fine with a 24v, 8a power supply to run 10M of strip. But always check the voltage and wattage rating of the strip you're using to make sure.

Hi David, 20-22 AWG is pretty standard with LED strips. Yo can go bigger, but 20-22 is as small as you should go.

The strip used for the demo on this video is this one below. It's 90 LED's per meter, 30 each of the cool white, warm white and RGB per meter for a total of 90 per meter.

Yes, that would be about the maximum length without amplifiers.

With SmartThings Hub + 1id controller is a Phillips Hue hub required?
Hi RJ. No. The controller will pair directly to the SmartThings hub as well as Hubitat and most other Zigbee hubs. ( I haven't seen one that it doesn't work on, although Tradfri can be problematic. Other than that, they all should work with the 1ID. I use SmartThings and Hubitat in my home so I can verify they work well with those as well as Hue.
@@k2hometech548 yep the lights arrived and paired to SmartThings right away without the Hue bridge. I just plugged the light strip in and the lights turned green (pairing mode) and bang it was in SmartThings. Literally the fastest I've ever added a new device to SmartThings

don't get why you say the 2ID doesn't work with smart things, my 5 Gledopto 2ID works just fine :) One thing every reviewer I've seen so far when ever they do smart bulb/light controller review that is compatible with HUE, that they miss, is the fact that most of these controllers show up as classic bulb. It means that the light can't be added to HUE entertainment zones and be properly synced with content on your tv screen via sync box or other means. The classic firmware simply cannot update fast enough hence why hue doesn't allow them into these groups
I've never had luck getting a 2ID on ST or hubitat. Gledopto has told me the 2ID doesn't work with anything other than hue. I'd love to see how you got it to work as 2.
@@k2hometech548 Just to be clear is it the 1. gen or the 2. gen (LLC) controller your using? Mine is the 1.gen, bought the 2ID by accident last year, and that is working fine just by adding it like any other device. but if it's the the new 2. gen LLC compatible controller then i have no clue if it will work :D

The fact that it is really hard to identify that they have pushed an updated version, tells me so much about them as a company. I don't understand why they haven't been really open about that they have a new updated controller?
@@GeekGarageDK So they have had 3 different generations of controllers with the new Pro version. the 1st generation ones, non-Zigbee Plus, had multiple firmware updates along the way. Maybe you got a firmware version that worked. This one is firmware version 2.0. They went from version 1.0.xx to 2.0.xx. They work on Zigbee Light Link.
The Zigbee Plus version started with firmware 2.0.xx for the Zigbee Side, also on Zigbee Light Link, but the "plus" is they added radio frequency control so you can use a Zigbee hub or their radio frequency remote control to control the lights.
The latest version, the Zigbee Pro version, uses Zigbee 3.0 protocol and also retains the RF capability.
The regular controllers like this just say Zigbee on them, the Plus versions are white with a PLus badge on them and the new Pro Versions are Black with a Pro badge on them.
Most of the returns I see on the 2 ID versions are from people who couldn't get them to work with anything other than Hue. So as a blanket statement, we say they don't work with ST or Hubitat, the 2 biggest other hubs they get used on.
@@k2hometech548 my bad just looked over my setup, and yes, i run them though Hue. That is why i have them available in ST. It's the GL-C-009 v2.0.3. I use my Hue Bridge for anything light related, and ST for sensor or contacts related because of the streaming thing and the light sync function HUE gives me.
But now I'm wondering iof the "new" controllers i'm getting is actually new and supports the fast switching i need. How do i know what is what? their site is one big mess :/

If it doesn't say Plus or Pro, it's probably the same version you have now. Even if it's the Plus version, the firmware is probably the same. The Pro version changed protocols to Zigbee 3.0 so that brought with it new improvements. They're minor changes, but they are appreciated.
Their site is kind of like a rummage sale where things are grouped oddly together. But a lot of things on Ali are like that as well. Post the URL and I can tell you what it is.
Why bother making 1ID boxes when the difference in cost is so small? Just make 2ID ones. As you are making both types please label them on both the packaging and unit itself so we can tell which is which
To me, I like the 1ID better as it's easier to control, works with more hubs and closely mimics the Hue strip where as the 2ID is a different animal. Cost is the same and they have started marking the boxes with a check mark on the side in a box. But no changes to the actual controllers themselves. Still identical. I'd be ok if they scrapped the 2ID, but some people love them.

I have a few other videos that help show how to use them and how they work. These videos always end up longer than I like so I try to keep each one to a specific topic.
