  • Need some help in leveling up your character? Madeline covers the basics you need to know.
    Dungeons and Dragons is a game all about telling stories, becoming a character, and having fun with your friends. It’s set in a fantasy world of swords and sorcery, but whether you want to join a pirate gang, explore a jungle, or take part in a political plot is entirely up to you. Everything is your decision, from what you look like, to how you act, to what happens next. The dice just help you along. Most of all though, it’s about spending time with your nearest and dearest, sharing dwarven ales, and making memories.

    I'm a huge fan of Milestone leveling over XP. It allows a focus on story and character development over number of encounters.

      We do a mix - keep an eye on the xp but preempt or delay till a cool milestone

    I really like this sort of video, very clear , short, to the point and concise. Really makes the material easier to grasp for new players (and dm's). Plus, the energy and enthusiasm of the presenter make them allround fun video's to watch!

    I usually don't miss all the math you had to do in old school D&D but I find keeping track of XP much more fun than milestones. Great video.

      Wasn't even relegated to the 80's. They had 1D4hp as recently as 3.5 which came to an end in 2008 (well, let's be honest for most of us it was 2014 when 5e came out lol)

      @@Eldanoth I spent many, many years of my youth playing it. Probably around 15 years before we fully moved over to 5e. And I now see it as being very complicated. A lot more than I remembered lol.
      I think 5e is a fantastic edition and takes what worked in AD&D, 3.5 and 4e and combines them well.
      But 3.5 will always be the one I primarily started with. Think we played straight 3E for a couple of months.

    Is Charming Goblins the value that I've been missing? Is that what's been evading me at the end of a weekend long super-session? Putting one of the most USELESS conditions on one of the trickiest low-level enemies? I guess we'll have to find out:
    Everyone, please roll for infatuation. No, wait, Initiative. Please roll for initiative.

    • @Grigeral
      @Grigeral 3 роки тому +1

      Charm doesn't cause any form of domination, it basically causes the target to see you as a friend or ally, however in most cases after use the target knows they were charmed.
      Potential combat reasons would be to stop a fight before blood was spilled, or to dupe them into a false sense of security then potentially getting a surprise attack on what is now considered a 'friend' while the spell is still active. I believe if engaged as hostiles though, targets get a save against it.
      It's not the best spell, but it's intended for when you need to make a temporary NPC friendly and know you aren't going to have to deal with them again any time soon.

    • @aaroncalimeri3270
      @aaroncalimeri3270 3 роки тому +2

      Yes it's very possible. The awesome thing about DnD is you can play however you want. This wouldn't even affect the actual gameplay so it should work perfectly fine. The only thing to consider is this would leave you with one less player in the adventuring party.

    Hi, I'm new to DND and was just wondering if say you're a wizard and sub as a necromancer dose your lv as a wizard also apply as a necromancer ie being a lv 6 wiz = being a lv6 necromancer upon taking the sub-class.
    or do you have to apply lvs to a sub-class to level it up?

    Uh, _EXCUSE_ me...Fighters _still_ learning how to use their weapon a level 1?! Did 5E literally gut one of the core mechanics of the fighters from 3.5E of having proficiency with _ALL_ Simple and Martial Weapons and _ALL_ Armor types (Including Shields)? Even _IF_ the fighter wants to start out with an _EXOTIC_ Weapon at Level 1 back in 3.5E, they start Level 1 with a _FIGHTER BONUS FEAT_ they can use to make themselves proficient with their choice of Exotic Weapon... _AT LEVEL 1_
