Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

My go to summer drink is water made bubbly in a soda stream and pure lime juice or lemon juice (to taste) and ice. Although after watching this, i think i might try adding a pinch of salt.

You can put your dry coffee into the tea strainer, put it in the jar then add water. Leave the tea strainer in for the full soak time. No need to strain when done.🎉

    Delicious refreshing ideas everywhere here!
My favourite drink when I'm working in the sun is icy cold naturally sweetened fresh whey with vanilla bean - i know, gross right!
But i promise it's amazingly restorative and my entire body loves it :D
After milking my goats while the milk is still warm i add the vanilla bean, some maple syrup and a light dose of rennet.
I clean up my mess and finish feeding animals then cut, rest and remove the curds for breakfast with cake - saving the whey in a bottle and shoving it in the fridge
Later when I'm all hot, bothered and wobbly i come drink this and it's divine!
P.s. Oops! I forgot - a pinch of top notch tasty salt goes in too!

FYI packaged lemon is pasteurized, which means you're getting none of the nutrients that you would from fresh lemons.
I will buy a load, squeeze them & freeze the juice. You can also freeze them whole, blending the peel & pith into water with a stick blender when you go to make your cold beverage, which gives a spectacular flavour because the essential oils from the peels is in there. Freezing the lemons beforehand also ensures the entire thing - peels & all - disintegrates much more easily when you go to make your lemon aid. Yes, unrefined sea salt is amazing in all beverages, including hot coffee & hot tea.
Coconut sugar also gives a really nice flavour. Buying that or maple syrup in bulk from a local health food store, like a 10 gallon jug - makes maple syrup & coconut sugar much more affordable.
Nettles, dandelion flowers, nasturtium flowers, hibiscus petals, rose petals etc picked from outside also make a nice addition to iced drinks.
Thanks very much for the video 🙂

Do you ever do sun tea? A quart or gallon bottle with bag teas, filled with room temperature water. Place jar in the sun and let it steep. Add sweetener as needed. Makes clear great tea.

    my three:
    1. sodastream fizzy water. squeeze in half a lemon. a dribble of maple syrup. tiny drop of vanilla. in a pint glass with ice.
    2. tiny cup of equal parts espresso and milk, put in the fridge for maybe an hour. (tbh, this is leftovers from morning coffee routine for me & the mrs.)
    3. thirsty buddha brand carbonated coconut water with fruit juice. my guilty pleasure for post-exercise. tasty & restorative. but pricey and comes in a can.

These all sounds like great drinks! I love reading what other people make in their own home! I'll have to try the coconut water one some day. My stepdad was suffering from a lot of 'charlie horse' cramps in his calves and someone handed him a coconut water and they went away. He now make up a "labouraide" concentrate but the coconut water was a great find as an electrolyte replacement!

These are also our main go to drinks that we used through the summer except I put hot boiling water to my tea with honey. Did I let it cool down and put it in the fridge Then it ice cubes and drink it for our coffee. We actually use dandy blend coffee. If you don’t know what this is, you might want to check into it does have no caffeine for the lemon juice we use real lemon and then put ice to it very good stuff to drink only thing I never added salt to mine but I’m going to try it. I know my mom used to say salt makes everything taste better even if it doesn’t ask for salt is in a pinch of salt.

These drinks are so similar to mine!! In the summer I pick tons a raspberry leaves and dehydrate. Apparently it’s full of minerals, I always brew gallons of that steep till cool, strain and add maple syrup and squeezed lemons. And ice. Works like a charm every time I feel like I’ve been in hot weather too much 👏 😆😆 am always thirsty so really enjoyed the new ideas 🤗🤗

Do you wanna hear something really funny. I have never been able to eat fake sweetener. Now I am sugar intolerant. I know exactly why this is come about because they cut refined sugar with sugar beets and other things. I think fake sugar too? But this had been going on for years-+. But you know what? I can eat fructose corn syrup candy bar or taffy. I don’t eat it often but once in a while, I will pick up a specialty item from the citrus stand in Florida. Do you know why I think I can eat it? because that’s what they’re made out of Nothing else like fake sugar stuck in there. I understand that it is fake sugar lol, but I think you know what I’m talking about. And since it’s a high-quality product lol I think they probably use good corn syrup? That really doesn’t bother me like other sugars. Even like what’s supposed to be real cane sugar from Costco nope. I buy Sucranat. It’s all cane syrup just blown dry into little pellets. So kind of like freeze dried. You can buy it at Azure standard good price.
