You are correct, this episode was to be about Hoss's marriage. Dan Blocker's death led to the demise of this wonderful series. But at least they were able to honor Hoss in this episode.
It's so nice to see one of the Cartwrights make it down the aisle at last, although I gather it wasn't to last! The fact that the original bridegroom was meant to be Hoss (before Dan Blocker's untimely death) just makes it SO sad. Thank you for posting.
I have only seen this episode once in rerun. Would love to have all Bonanza seasons on dvd. Shame no Cartwright had happy marriages, they always ended as widowers :(
I had forgotten this show was on for so long. A year or so later, they did the pilot for Little House, and he died his hair completely black. Then when that show finished up (going about 4 years too long!) he let himself go gray again. Then the very next year he started Highway to Heaven and was back to dark hair again. Very interesting. There are few actors that basically stated on TV in the same or different shows for so long. Gunsmoke comes to mind, but not many others.
don cook:She is a flirty miss!First she tempts Jan Michael Vincent s character in Bonanza. Then she weds Little Joe.Oh yes,& she was in Sandcastles with Jan as well.Surely did get around!
You know, I always liked Candy too. Thanks for the comment. Just so you know, Little Joe married in the first show of the final season. It didn't last long though, she died in part two of the show. The show was titled "Forever." Michael Landon wrote the show and I believe he directed it also.
He had been coloring his hair for years, he admitted on a talk show that he was prematurely gray...pretty sure it was on Carson after the premeir of Little House.
A Cartwright asking you to marry them is the same as the grim reaper knocking on your door! You won't live long afterwords. My advice is to run and not look back.
Carolyn Grosso Or maybe they were the luckiest in the world, imagine not being tied down to the same woman for the rest of one's life... if that isn t luck,IDK what is.
They should have gotten Adam to come back for one show for the wedding. They could have had a funeral service for Hoss with Adam there in the beginning.
I "knew" it a long time ago. There is unfortunately always possible to spoil it for yourself without intending to. I read the title at this video a decade ago, but I still have not watched it. If I ever find everything between season 9 and season 14, I will watch it all in order :)
@cmsahe I've never seen the episode, but from what I've read, a two hour episode was written by Michael Landon to specifically deal with the death of Hoss. If I'm not mistaken, he drowned trying to save someone else.
They go on to raise 3 girls and a boy with good values but face hardships and challenges throughout life. He eventually dies and becomes an Angel. Him, his father, brothers, and children are never forgotten by loyal fans.
On Bonanza, I believe it was just noted that he died, not how he died. According to the Bonanza next generation movies, Hoss died saving someone from drowning.
She reminds me of Holly Gennero or Mrs. Holly McClane from "Die Hard". Bonnie Bedelia has always been very beautiful, even evident on this episode of Bonanza. Thank you very much, Bonnie Bedelia, beautiful.
"The Strange Vengeance of Rosalie", a movie she starred in the same year she did this Bonanza episode. The outfit she was wearing in that movie when she was pumping air into a tire 👙 Smokin Hot was an understatement!❤
@snoops71 That must have been a very sad episode, the pain of knowing that Dan Blocker died and then having to say good bye to his character on screen; thanks for the answer.
I am a big time Bonanza fan. Last christmas my family got me a Bonanza dvds. It has probably 15 episodes of Bonanza from TV shows. I'm sure they spent a good amount of money for it. The only bad thing is the quality of those dvds are very bad. I was very happy to receive that as a present. The only problem is the quality of pictures are very poor. I didn't realize that little Joe finally got married..hmm!
Little Joe could never get the girl, there were so many episodes where he thought he met the right girl to marry only to lose her at the end of the episode.
He loved them all,he could marry one and love her, then he could fall in love again and marry another,a player loves them all,but loves no one in particular, that is the player's curse. Joe was a player.
Don't remember this episode, but I know if Joe or any of these guys fell in love, the gal had no chance of living. They'd get raped, killed, diseased, fall for another guy or turn out to be a criminal and have to go to jail.
Little Joe's wife didn't die, she went on to become a hostage for terrorists in Nakatomi tower. However her husband, a NY cop, saved her after killing all the terrorists.
well before that and shortly after her marriage to Little Joe she went into seclusion in some desert and a guy got into a car accident and she took care of him but didn't want to let him go back to his home something out of Misery before that became a movie.
I remember this episode. Micheal Landon had discovered a young actor who attended the Univeristy of Arizona by the name of Robert Golden to appear in this episode as the heavy. What happened to golden after this show, i do not know. Did not see him again on any other program.
HEY! Does anyone know where or how to buy Bonanza-DVD's?? I'm still missing season 9 to season 14!! I can't find it anywhere and I would really appreciate some advice or a list with reliable places which this can be bought from :)
he is kinda looking like Johnny Cash, so there was a highway to heaven, and a Escalade but broad is the road that leads to destruction narrow is the path of salvation the small trails Charles ingalls rode on and the path we walk to get there...
Watch the movie "Strange Vengeance of Rosalie" that was shot the same year as this episode and take a look at what she was wearing 👙 when pumping air into a tire. To say she was hot is an understatement.
You would think word should have gotten out to stay clear of any relationships with the Cartwrights. All women are doomed. All the money they it couldn't keep any of them alive. That's T.V. shows for ya.

Are you still sad?
One of - if not the greatest westerns of all time , next to Gunsmoke .
Still watch the reruns .
And Chaparral,Lancer,Larado,Wagon Train,Laramie,The Virginian,The Rebel.All great series.
I agree. It would have been so cool if Adam had returned for the wedding.
I want Adam in the wedding
Little Joe gettin married, after all those hundreds of other girls he asked and didn't go through with, he finally did it
LeMcCHarStar4ever; from what I remember, he married this girl because this script was actually written for Eric (Hoss) and Michael Landon wrote it
He likes younger women.
I also like candy. He's one of my favorite charactors.
I bet it was so sad on the set during this time, with Dan Blocker having recently passed away.
After Bonanza was canceled, Ben Cartwright decided to go to Outer Space
Jesse L😊L thanks for the laugh April 24,2020
I have only seen this episode once in rerun. Would love to have all Bonanza seasons on dvd. Shame no Cartwright had happy marriages, they always ended as widowers :(
Eee Michael dosen't look joe Cartwright he looks Charles ingalls but without his hat!

Love Bonnie Bedelia on "Parenthood"! She's 65 now and still a beautiful woman!
don cook did you know she is the aunt of Macauley Culkin?
Yes, she is!!!!
Yes she is his aunt!!

Saw Miss Bedelia in an L.A. theatre production of the "Glass Menagerie" 1970...that was love at first sight...:)
Little Joe finally had happy ending got married great family values honest trustworthy brother
He had been coloring his hair for years, he admitted on a talk show that he was prematurely gray...pretty sure it was on Carson after the premeir of Little House.
I remember watching this when I was little. As I recall, Little Joe's wife died not long after they married, the Cartwright curse.
A Cartwright asking you to marry them is the same as the grim reaper knocking on your door! You won't live long afterwords. My advice is to run and not look back.
Not just the Cartwrights.I can think of another name.
great episode but its kinda sad that neither one of joe's brothers were at his wedding because PR left the show and DB died. :(
As usual the woman died. None of the Cartwrights had any luck with the women in their lives.
You are correct, this one was the worst because she was pregnant.
Carolyn Grosso to
Carolyn Grosso Or maybe they were the luckiest in the world, imagine not being tied down to the same woman for the rest of one's life... if that isn t luck,IDK what is.
My favorite wife for little Joe wish it could have lasted

Michael Landon had written this episode for Dan Blocker. Hoss was the one who would have married but Dan died during their summer break.
Spoiler

this was to originally be hoss. getting married but Dan blocker died and Landon changed the script to Joe very sad episode.
It just wasn't the same without Hoss.
C. S. Jackson, I LOVED Hoss, he was my favorite 😭
On Bonanza, I believe it was just noted that he died, not how he died. According to the Bonanza next generation movies, Hoss died saving someone from drowning.
By that time "Little Joe" was pushing 40, wasn't he?
David Fahey and he still looked great!🥰
This makes me so jealous!!😣💔Michael had the most BEAUTIFUL eyes I have ever seen.😍❤
Mini Vegana - wish u would loose your handle . Paints a bad picture of who u think u are .

For such a television institution, it went out in such a ignominious fashion.
@snoops71 That must have been a very sad episode, the pain of knowing that Dan Blocker died and then having to say good bye to his character on screen; thanks for the answer.
the original for this script was written for dan blocker but was rewritten for michael landon b/c of the death of dan
Mr.Ken Johnson,I call it the Cartwright curse.
I remember seeing this episode when it first aired and being so disappointed that his wife was killed 20 minutes into it.
star trek qqqq
It was a two hour episode, and I believe she died shortly before the end of the first hour. And I also remember watching it back in 1972.
thanks for posting this btw!

Hey Jimmy is the same guy who played Johnny Johnson from LHOTP!!!
This episode of Bonanza aired today in 1972 on NBC. This would be Bonanza's final year on the air.
Is not shame to be gray is natural why people care so much of gray hair as long healthy handsome or Beautifull don't matter to me 😀❤
somehow I think it'd be worth it though to be proposed to by a Cartwright! ;)
Little Joe could never get the girl, there were so many episodes where he thought he met the right girl to marry only to lose her at the end of the episode.

Maybe a sub-title for the show should have been: "Dead Brides"
Lol for real
I know. It was not healthy to date a Cartwright.
Ken Johnson 🤣🤣🤣🤣
True , but I loved Bonanza.
Held true here as well, Joe's new wife gets murdered along with their unborn child in the second half of this two part episode.
True :)!!!...though, I suppose the honey moon would feel more like a last supper....
I love Joe ...
the first time I watched this episode, I was 13. Now I am 63.
Saddest wedding ever.
The perfect wife for joe
envious beauty:Hmmm.I can think of another one.Sad wedding, that is.
Hi 🙋♀️ this is a very nice 👍🏻
But wouldn't you risk it? I sure would.. If it was the right Cartwright asking! ;)
0:19 that cracked me up!

Fortunately the NY cop had some assistance from the Chicago PD in the form of Carl Winslow.
what is charles ingalls doing on bonanza. he looks more like charles ingals.
Never seen this
Now that is pretty funny and I guess true too.
I saw this episode on TV the other day. It wa hard to see Ltle Je's hair turning so white. It made me sigh.
Can you post the part of this episode where they mention that Hoss is dead?
This was the last season
He did wait a super long time to get married. lol I would've sworn he would've gotten married when he was younger. haha
so what did the show say happened to the character of hoss after blockers death? did hoss die?
I remember this episode. Micheal Landon had discovered a young actor who attended the Univeristy of Arizona by the name of Robert Golden to appear in this episode as the heavy. What happened to golden after this show, i do not know. Did not see him again on any other program.
is there any reason that one of the guys couldn't have gotten married??? Ben especially! No radical change really.

@BonanzaDude553 Yeah, but how could you say no to a Cartwright ;)
@TRENZ2 I know!
