To add to the discussion of whether they died or not, this was established as an "anything goes" kind of race, and the people running it have technology so advanced that the ruler of Roboworld finds it offensive that they're usuing it for Redline. So its very likely that they had contingencies for any kind of situation at the finish line, including 2 humans going at mach 10, and likely used magic to stop their inertia and keep them hovering to revel in their victory for a bit (that and what I assume is the hyper energy from the steamline)
Oh yeah they definitely had some form of magical net or whatever never the end that stopped or slowed down everyone. How else would machine head and the other stop in such a concentrated area or how else would JP and Sonoshi be floating. The princess has magical powers so it isn’t out of the question that they had a barrier that protected everyone throughout the final line
I like all the camaraderie between the racers. It was great when they all stopped trying to kill each other and just wanted to race on an even field. They were all chill with each other afterwards, even after being so viscous during the race
Machine Head is so awesome. You'd definitely think that he's the "I'm superior, you're inferior." archetype and while he does fulfill the first part and trash talks as they race, he still does think that all the racers are worthy competitors and should be respected. In fact, every racer in the Redline is awesome, they might fight, bicker, and aim to destroy the others, but in the end they are still just racers. Racing for the love of the race. This movie was awesome.
They do I think, I can't remember if its them, or the blue rabbit looking guy that had an anime that came out several years before this and they were a partial inspiration to make this. Good luck finding it outside of Japan though.

That character represented JP's idealized, romanticized memory of the person who inspired him getting into racing. This person likely doesn't (and never has) exist(ed) in the way that JP remembers him (think about how we idolize people when we are young), but this ideal is what he has been chasing from that point on. In the midst of the chaos during the final moments of that race, JP has a moment of realization and sees that his personal ideal has been surpassed by who he is in that moment. He is no longer chasing an ideal in his mind, now he is the ideal.
My opinion on the ending: Feel like they could’ve made the win a little more epic. Like added some music during the cheering instead of after everyone started catching their breath. Plus JP and Sonoshee making out like that felt over the top. They could’ve landed safely and then kissed.
They didn’t die I’m pretty sure a little bit after the release it’s proven that the princess’s power saved them and that the race had precautions for this.
Wow. They should've straight up died from the jet car blowing up, but the rotton trope "NAKAMA POWER" kicked in and completely nuked the ending! Thank God I listened to the few naysayers that claimed the ending sucked. Winning because of your explosion proof, perfectly gelled hair, at mach 3? What a load of crap. Glad I didn't waste an hour to get slapped with this turd of an ending....
Man if you want a realistic not-over-the-top anime just don't watch Redline the ending is as good as the rest of the movie if that's not your genre ok but just don't say it's trash, you just don't like it

All the racers that made it to the end they gave it their all despite losing but man I can tell they all enjoyed it.
I really love how everybody was happy after the race regardless of positions. Very chill ending.
