Thank you Barry for your honesty! I agree. They should pay you for the tutorial videos. I like the design it’s awesome. I would wait before buying tho.
I tried the V1 M but personally wasn't satisfied... wont share my reasons but I demo'd 2 units... I now have Avid S3 and Avid Dock+Ipad... and Pro Tools Perpetual license... if my house caught fire I would get my dogs and my S3... after about 6 months heavy use I've had zero issues... has been bullet proof and built like a tank.
I had the icon qcon pro and three extenders. It was a sodding nightmare. Constant issues. And Icon never responded ONCE to my support enquiries. I’m not sure what the new stuff is like but I’ll be giving it a miss.
Thanks Barry. I have had two of Icons controllers. I now have SSL UC1 and Softube Console one MK3 and the new fader. I could right a book on Icon! its not good. If you contact support!! Two replies tops. I have had the imap software change stuff in my system i could never get the bug out. I''m 100% sure if was the software. Logic is the daw that it effected the most. I removed Icon software and a fresh logic install still broke. Only way to fix wes reformatting. However if i did not use Icons software and basic hui control is was fine.. Load more to the story. But Icon! you lost over 2k in sales and i will never be back. Softube's support was great when my old console one broke and this was after 5 years. I wanted to like this and i do. I just cant take the chance with this much money on the table. Again Great Work Berry Just wanted to add my 2 cents as i have had Icon for years. Thanks Man for keepin it real,
The Job Wheel issue has been addressed with the latest firmware update (V1.23 on 12-09). You can now set one of 3 levels of sensitivity! This was my biggest issue with the V1-M as well! Now my biggest issue is making very small changes via the sliders seems difficult, they are very sensitive but not always accurate in tiny adjustments. Perhaps there is a calibration routine I have not found? I’ve been using it in Studio One (PC) for a while. Some of the issues I’ve had have been silently fixed in firmware updates. Based on that I think they are listening, but don't always respond directly, which can be frustrating. I have a couple strips of black tape over the red LED displays so it shows Beats properly in studio one (extra 0s in the display), that might have been addressed but the tape is invisible so I'll just leave it there. LOL The master LEDs don’t work S1, but that might be an S1 problem for as you say the unit is dependent upon the information the DAW sends. One thing I really like is that you can change the key assignments on the fly (on the PC, I haven’t used it on a Mac). Minimize your DAW, make your changes in the Mapping Software (Be sure to save!) then go back to your DAW and they are made. No need to stop/start the DAW. Pro Tip: When creating new key mappings, modify the values of one that is already assigned that you are not using. There is no way to ‘delete’ a keymap, only overwrite them. YMMV, but all in all I do like this unit. It isn’t perfect, but I enjoy working with it and can get a lot done easier than with the keyboard and mouse.
I can change the jog wheel, they have a shuffle feature that scrolls the mixer 8 channels at a time, I'm going to reverse it as a slow precise jog wheel for vocal editing or anything you need a finer touch on, I can program this in FL studio through the customer midi scripts, you can basically programme this thing to do almost anything.
I recently purchased 4 Avid S1 controllers and a Dock for Pro Tools HDX. I have 4 new iPad Air tablets, and a new Fire HD tablet. I followed Avid’s recommendation and purchased a dedicated wireless access point and a small network switch for the controllers and tablets(They do not have Internet access, and are not on the home network). I added a USB-C to Ethernet adapter for an isolated network for my Mac Studio for the control surface system. Once setup in Eucon, it all works fine and stays online with the Mac Studio/Eucon. I’m sorry the Avid controllers didn’t work for you.
I'lll NEVER buy anything from ICON again. The only good thing about is that they’re beautiful, but that’s it. I had a 24ch set for 3 years, with tech support giving me useless firmwares. When some bug was fixed, a new bug appear . Sold them for less than half of the price ,and bought a cheaper VTouch Bheringer with extensions that worked plug&play on the fly…. No surprise that years after I see people complaining.. Zero surprise.
Greatly stated that no two surfaces will please ANYONE!!! However I personally have a MUTT control system 😂 I use Softube Console and Fader MK3 and use a companion Icon nano for master bus control and for macro control!!! Best work flow i have ever put together!
Barry, are you aware of Paul Neyrinck’s software solution called “V-Control”? It is a brilliant bit of reverse-engineering: it opens up a world of possibilities for Avid/Digidesign control surfaces of the past. Through it, old D-Command, Control 24, and C24 units can not only run current PT versions, they can work with ANY DAW. I have a Control 24 working as a control surface for Logic. About 90% of the original functionality of the Control 24 works. It’s so sweet that you might want to get your old D-Command back!
Hello, Barry - Regarding the resolution of the Jog Wheel... My DAW controls allows the resolution of controllers to change via the SHIFT, CNTL or ALT keys. The value provided by the controller is divided by some magic factor, depending on which of these 3 keys you hold down. So, you have (4) different responses of that controller. I wonder if that type of capability is implemented in the DAW(s) you use? Cheers! Patrick
It’s what I use, but don’t buy one if you already don’t have one, Loupedeck has been bought by Logitech and they have ruined it with the lasted update.
Hi Barry, I'm trying to search for your woodwork website and nothing is coming up. Perhaps I'm putting in the spelling incorrectly. Can you please send me a link to the website. I have the VM-1 and two extenders I'm interested in having a case built for them.
Thanks Barry! Question: Why use this when you use the Console One? Just kind of exploring other options? Would you incorporate this into your workflow?
Master Level doesn't work, but it is in work - there is a beta-verison of a imap - and the color per channel is in work too - but I send my controller back - I don't understand, that there is a product where som functions are not realized - you have always wait for drivers to fix it. Hey here is a car, but the breaks come with next update ... damn
Icon seem to release the best looking control surfaces, but everyone complains about their use and support. If only they could nail the support and use of the product, I just don't know why they are soo bad with support, it just does not make sense, as with good reviews they could sell thousands of this units.
I’ve used platform M+ for over five years in the field, mixing million dollar projects and controlling playback with dif daws and never had issues. Real ones at least. I sometimes use them in extreme environments, and have fried a few running on generators when people messed around with power. Sometimes the buttons are sticky, so can call that an issue. I was looking at getting a p1 or v1 set up for post production work and it led me to your video. The point to me is that p1 or m+, maybe v1 is so cheap compared to stuff I would destroy anyway, but that stuff starts at 5k+, so I can accept some compromises for something that costs 500$.
I wish Ableton released a decent controller that was specifically devised as an addition to the Push, in order to control the arrangement view properly. Mackie Control protocol is too old and it's making it difficult for Ableton users tomove through productions
Disappearance of the LED strip on channel 7 isnt really great but you seem to gloss over as if its 'ok' and one of these things? Its shoddy and broken if youre being honest surely and is a return every day of the week no?
@@BarryJohns yes fair point I agree. I don’t hear great things about icon quality however so not surprised at this broken led. This controller system looks literally as pro as it gets and is the product I’ve been waiting for. however all I’m reading about bugs etc is a serious failing and reason I can’t part with cash on it. Sadly.
I have used ICON products in the past and would not recommend them. The faders are not accurate and often get out of collaboration. The software is not good and the company does not seem to care much about its customers.
I bought the Icon Qcon pro X with the extender a while ago. It worked for about 6 months and then nothing. Tried to resolve the issue with Icon to no avail and they were less than helpful. One unit is collecting dust in the corner and the other one is now a door stop. I now hate this company with a passion and never will I recommend or buy any of their crap products. Thanks but no thanks
I bought the first one. I sent it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No commutation !! Thank you Barry!!!

Also it works well with my Softube MK3 Channel
If your house catches fire, get the damn fire extinguisher 🧯 💨 🔥 🏠 👍
The S3 is £4000 of course it’s better! It’s more than 4x the price!! Price comparisons matter!
Though tbh I’d go with softube
@@alexhulme6135 important point absolutely.. and I cant keep my hands off my MK3.. probably couldn't live without it.

Thanks, Barry! Great video, and feedback for the iCON team to note.
We got some close up shots of the unit this time thanks :)
I listen to feedback😁
You can change the jog wheel settings now. New 1.23 firmware is out now.
It addresses the issue voiced in this video? Can you change the resolution on the fly?
Great review happy holidays to you and your family
they have the best audio interfaces too !!! especially Harrison 32ci interface

Have to admit I'm enjoying the controller, I've been working on a midi script for FL Studio to flush out all the colours and other features
