Recently, you have been a bit self-conscious about your playing when demo-ing guitars, but you don’t need to worry. Not all of us out here are manic shred-meisters craving the maximum number of notes per second. I like to hear nice easy chord sequences that tell me about tone, sustain and such, and you do that perfectly. Sometimes less is more.

    • @JC-11111

How do you tell someone else they're self conscious about something? That's not even something you could know without someone specifically tell you that much.
Now you could theorize he feels that way. Or whatever you want to call it. But to come straight out and try and tell someone they're self-conscious about something when you can't know if they are unless they've specifically told you is pretty out there, IMO. 🤔

@@JC-11111 JC, I’m a fan of your comments, but lately you’ve seemed a bit self-conscious… don’t worry, your comments are always “your truth” and we respect your courage to just get out there and comment! (As I write this I realize I’m feeling a bit self-conscious, not knowing if you’ll realize it’s tongue in cheek.). By the way, have you ever seen the sequence of cartoons by Charles Schulz (Peanuts), in which Linus says that he is aware of his tongue, and then Lucy starts to become aware of her tongue?

Something I have done with Guitar Center purchases, when they don't have the particular color I want, is to have them order the color you want online or over the phone. Then go back in with the one you bought and, because of their return policy, you can just swap the color you don't want for the one you do. I've done it recently, last month, with the Sterling Mariposa. I wanted Pueblo Pink, but they only had the surfy green/blue color.
The dragonfruit color is really neat, however, I can't see myself picking it over Evergreen or Moon white. I love the Evergreen man, it's fuckin tight. I can't wait to get one of these SS SE's

I think the PRS Silver Sky SE is one of the nicest strat style guitars you can buy. I saw a review recently did where Mary Spender compared the $849 Silver Sky SE to her regular $2,649 Silver Sky. She said she found little difference to justify the much higher price. I love this dragonfruit color too.

Play a red sparkle Mexican Strat with Mojotone Quiet Coil 67 pups, and just bought a demo SE Silver Sky for $611 at Sweetwater, rosewood fretboard and "Piano Black" finish, plus comes with a Graph Tech nut.. Thinking of getting a gold sparkle pickguard to dress it up. May have to replace the bridge pickup if it's too "edgy"... The Mojotones are sweet, warm and QUIET ! It arrives in 4 days...

Bro, I have been thinking the same thing since they SE'd these Sky's. I love fender guitars more than anything, basically they have been all I've played since I started playing 15 years ago lmao. My first non Fender was an Ibanez AS73, cause I wanted a 335 type guitar but I don't like Gibson/Epiphone. Now, my next non-Fender will be one of these SS SEs lol. I fuckin love the colors available, I'm gonna have to do some hard decision making between Moon white and evergreen. I keep leaning evergreen cause I have buttercream Strats, which are v close to moon white, but I haven't been fortunate enough to grab a strat in British Racing Green. But luckily, Evergreen is a much different shade than British Racing, so I'll be cool to have both lol.
I can't imagine how fuckin sick a PRS T-style would be ...I'm really hoping these strat types sell like fuckin crazy and they want to do the guitar market a service and give us the Strats old pal, the Tele. Would love to see what they do for the bridge

This is a good representation of not only the actual color but how the guitar sounds. I have the same exact guitar and color and it's more than I expected. In the past, the only Strat I really liked was the Jeff Beck Model. Yes, I've played the Eric Johnson and other Custom Shops but was never impressed, especially considering the price point. Your mentioning of how easy it is to play this guitar is so well-put. Bear with me here, but I like to say that it has a “slinkyness” to it. By that, I mean that the strings feel like they are so easy to bend and they snap back into place in a forgiving manner. It’s effortless to play it. PRS hit the nail on the head with this one, I feel.

5:05 Referencing the factory wasn't really a thing before the development of the PRS Santana SE models. Paul wanted to name the manufacturers on the headstock as his opinion was that the people building them were highly skilled at their craft, and that should be acknowledge. The Santana SE models had the name World Music Corportation on the headstock for that reason, and it caused a lot of kickback within the industry.
There is a video on the PRS channel describing the design and release of the Santana SE, and hearing Paul speak with such fondness for the people he worked with there while they were refining the prototypes is a lovely thing to see. They have acknowledged all the manufacturing companies for the SE series across the board.

They normally have someone else's name on them. That's surprising that the PRS SE actually says what company made it. I'm pretty sure Cort makes all the PRS SE line, G&L Tribute series, Squier CV line, some Epiphones, and some of the Fender limited edition models. Look for the Fender Tele with humbuckers and a maple top. Cort also makes some of the top Harley Benton guitars now. The body and necks are great.

Speaking of "artist models", I highly recommend the Robert Cray stratocaster, one of the few (only?) hardtail (no wang bar) models still in production. I got my slightly used version on Reverb for ~$900 w/gig-bag and shipping. FWIW the "Tonequest Report" creator-publisher, David Wilson (excellent writer, perhaps the best in this field?), recommended this model no less than THREE times over the years. He bought three different versions from various years, and is keeping the latest acquisition. His were older versions, and mine is from a couple years ago - I think the necks on newer versions aren't as chunky...? I'm just guessing, but kept hearing about how chunky they are, and mine is not chunky, although not "slim" either, rather a nice medium C-taper, well rounded as I like them. It's light weight (7lbs. 2oz.), the beautiful silver finish is thin, and the Indian rosewood fretboard is dark. The most striking feature is the pickups, which are perhaps the best sounding stratocaster pickups I've ever heard. The neck and middle have un-bevelled staggered magnets, while the bridge pickup has flat magnets, and seems to sound more like a telecaster than stratocaster bridge pickup. The pickups are more jumbo than medium ("medium-jumbo" is a useless description - it can mean different things), the radius is 9 1/2". This is probably a wasted comment that will never get seen, but if you see it my friend - please feature a Robert Cray strat in the future maybe? I'm not very familiar with his music, but do like his guitar playing, and I Love this strat. The made in Mexico version is the guitar I'm talking about, not the custom shop version, which is different. The Silver Sky sounds good, but is it better than a Robert Cray strat.....?

His guitar playing speaks to me on a level I can't describe, but to those of you who either write him off or don't feel the need to explore his work, I'd encourage you to listen to his albums, not just the intro to "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room". "Paradise Valley" could be a good choice. To me, he's just as much a philosopher as he is a guitar player. I think he's a very good lyricist and an expressive, tasteful singer. I was more impressed with the Tone King amp, The PRS SE Slver Sky to me is nothing more than finally getting into the game with the Fender MiM Player Series. And then Fender beat PRS to Player Plus before the PRS SE SS was introduced. I think they get their sales, but to me it's more hype than anything else. I'm not a John Mayer fan either. I bought a Samick Malibu back in 2020 and I decided to hotrod it because if John can so can I!
I put a Filtertron in the bridge (real deal), a Seymour Duncan Little 59 in the middle, and a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in the neck position. The control lay out is master volume, coil tap for Little 59, and master tone with a Grease Bucket mod on it. Pots are mini Bournes and a Grigsby 5 way switch with a Switchcraft jack. I also upgraded the trem block with a Brass GFS block. It has Grover tuners stock on it. USA ones.
I picked up the guitar for under $75 out the door. Its a black with white pickguard. Anywho its a proof of concept that turned out better than expected. Last thing will be a professional bone nut here soon. Honestly its a full scale guitar but the body is smaller like inbetween a Strat and a Duo Sonic. If you want a poor man's Silver Sky, a Malibu is a bit closer to a Strat with a compact body. I will say with all the mods, it got chonky and weighs a bit more than expected.
