I’m not a Panasonic guy but I associate the brand with balls to the walls features and never overheating. I’d love to see the AF and stabilization from the S5II turn this into a next-level action cam.
I'm jazzed. Panasonic is out here just making neat stuff. I own all my gear and probably won't be moving to this system, but is just cool to have options for people who own a giant MFT lens library already.
Thank you so much for covering this kind of information micro 4/3 is plenty good for the type of work that I do; in fact sometimes it’s actually better than full frame or APC for my work. so, I appreciate that somebody still spends the time to dig out these little nuggets of goodness! Subscribed!

For me the Varicam successor is a bigger news than the gh7. I know you’re not into the video side of things but for those who owned the EVA1 will understand. But yeah let’s see what the gh7 holds haha
I know Lumix is going to hit it out the park with the GH7! Many people love the S5II and S5IIX and they arent Limixyflagship models! The GH7 is going to be a professional machine! PDAF, 32 Bit float, Real-Time Lut and internal RAW. Even tho its a MFT sensor the price to feature ratio will have many joining Lumix. Just in time for S1H II!!!
Not a small m43….sure it will have nice specs, but larger like a FF size once again. Nice yes, but many folks seem to be more interested in small and compact.
I’m a current Canon R5 C user (former GH5 user), but still pretty excited by the GH7. If it has the same amazing internal stabilization + PDAF autofocus it will really have my attention. I don’t believe m43 is dead.
Kudos to Panasonic for continuing support for MFT. Because Panasonic submitted a patent for a boxed-styled camera last month, I expect the S1H mk2 to be out before the end be of the year and the BS1H mk2 out by second quarter next year.
If the GH7 comes with PDAF - which I can't think of why it wouldn't - I will consider getting it. Thanks for the confirmation. Looking forward to the announcement.
Sound like solid specs. Nice audio recording feature. A battery grip is what’s needed. That a,ways made my GH4 set up so good for events. It could just run and run, hot swapping batteries
I sold my a7siii because I couldn’t deal with the yellowish skin tones anymore. It’s a very capable camera otherwise, albeit a bit digital and artificial looking. Hopefully Lumix will launch some good lenses in the future with a s1h II God willing 🙏🏻
I am trying to understand why people would want the GH6 or GH7, when it seems like the SVII is about the same price. Watching a comparison it looks like maybe the GH6 has better slow mo? Is it just for people who already have a collection of Crop lenses? I really thought the S9 was a sign that crop sensors are done. If you have some compelling advantages to a crop sensor, please educate me. Ever since I upgraded to full frame, I've never had any desire to switch back.
S1h ii and s1r ii please.......... It's like Panasonic wants to go out of business. If they don't hurry up I'm going to buy the r5 ii when it comes out instead.
Very good question. Not many thought the GH7 would come for another year or so. And almost no one thought the S9 would be here so soon. Lumix dropping the oki doke on people.
... the phrase "CINEMA GEAR" ...hybrid systems (GH) are out!! "Cine Gear" means Lumix BS1H Box Cine Camera... It's not the GH7, it will NOT be GH6 II.. blah blah .... clearly says "Cinema Gear"
Ok, we'll make a reason for a new m43. I just hope Panasonic matches the XLR grip like the Sony XLR-H1. Internal recording in Raw.... so there is no risk of incurring a Nikon/Red lawsuit?
@@nightotter What makes me angry is that Red inserted into the firmware of his first camera an uncompressed codec (which already existed for several years before when Jannard was building glasses) by filing the patent. In doing so he blocked the development of cameras in the world of photography and cinematography and brought to court anyone who implemented Raw video in their cameras. And at the same time it has been enriched by the lawsuits won.

As I was thinking the chance is low that we will get another under €1000 camera from Panasonic. What I do not understand why Panasonic is discontinued the GH6. I expected that when they release the GH7 the GH6 will occupy the pricepoint of the current GH5 mark II. Question will be which m43 camera from Panasonic will be around the €1000 mark for those entering the system? Or Panasonic has stop trying to get new user into the m43 system? Or will the m43 system only be for m43 users that only needs to upgrade within the system?
There is no reason to expect the m4/3 S9 version or new version of GM1 or whatever to be less than $1000 when the S9 is $1500. It's not right to think - the sensor is half the size, so the camera should be half the price...
It may not come this year, but I expect Panasonic to release a GH7R somewhen next year. Why? Because Xiaomi seems to release a flagship phone featuring a new MFT sensor that--knowing smartphone camera philosophy--will probably feature somewhat around 50 MP, so it will be 8k ready. Lumix has a partnership with Leica (L² technology), and so does Xiaomi. So I can't but assume that Panasonic will be also able to grasp that sensor and make a sensational 8k hybrid camera that thanks to a fast-reading cutting-edge stacked sensor that might also delight sports and wilflife photographs, and maybe even flicker-free electronic shutter at any shutter speed.
We really need a quality superzoom for Panasonic (something to compete with Tamron 18-300mm) that reach at least 400mm equivalent and stars at at least 28mm equivalent. Something f2.8-4 optimally with power zoom. Something like a bigger enhanced version of the lens from FZ2000. Or like Olympus 12-200mm but better optically. Or like Olympus 12-100mm PRO but longer. Something that when attatched to my G9II makes me stop missing my Sony RX100 IV during hiking
I don't think the S9 has been the big hit that Panasonic was hoping for, as nobody wanted it. It seems from what I've read that people were actually holding out for a GX9ii or even a GX10, which would have had a lot of support in MFT pancake lenses from the get go! So I think it makes sense for Panasonic to release the MFT GH7 hot on the heels of the S9, as a lot of people have been asking for a GH6S/GH6ii/GH7 upgrade, which will in all probability be a lot better received and will quite likely limit damage control from the disappointment of the feature limited S9 and its new baffling accompanying lens .
Will the GH7 come in a G9ii-S5(X)ii body or continue the GH6 design? Will there be a suitable new lens in addition? Something anamorphic? Wild dreams ;-)
GH6 was a stop gap that missed the PDAF pixels on the sensor and has streaking issues due to not a complete implementation of dual gain reading. In G9II this 2 issues where solved which proves the GH6 was a stopgap as Panasonic took much time leaving the m43 system alone pursuing L mount sales.
