Well we certainly grew up during the Golden Age of guitar tunes. I got my first 12-string (a Yamaha) at age 16, because of Genesis Supers' Ready, and Led Zep III. Then it was Even in the Quietest Moments, and the real mind blower was Pat Metheny New Chitaqua. Led Zep III was various open tunings so I had to get more 12-strings (a Takamini and a Guild). In high school, while my buddies were downstairs playing Montrose and Deep Purple for the guys, I was upstairs with my 12-string playing Neil Young and Supertramp for the ladies. Now, 45 years later, I just got my Taylor 12-string back from the Taylor repair shop, and was looking for a refresher, and found your lesson. Great job! and Thanks! I play by myself 'cause I'm old and half my band has died of cancer. But every time I strap in and play The Song Remains The Same, I feel 17 years old again.
That tune is the reason for my wish to learn the guitar. My friend was playing it on his 12 string guitar, but I had the wisdom to begin learning guitar with a 6 string. After 1 year, I was glad to please my ears with the glorious sound of a 12 string. We were in 1979. But I learned all the details of the song from start to finish only in the years 2000, thank to Internet
I got spoiled, my friend who's been teaching and playing in bands for more than 60 years dropped off his 70's lawsuit era Takamine solid Mahogany 12 string for me to play around with, thank you for showing me all the chords to play one of my favorite bands songs, the only problem is I just bought a new Squier Ruby Red Anniversary Gold Edition Strat and now I also want a 12 string to go along with my six string acoustic, I'm going to buy used this time and stick to the Godin line of guitars to get the quality and sound for way less the cost of a Martin or Taylor. Thanks again.
After not playing for a long time I Picked up my 12 today, stumbled across the intro. For some odd reason I never even considered learning this great song. Randomly picked this lesson. Now I’m all in. Great tutorial man!!!!
Love his teaching style ,step by step for intermediate players. 12 ft. chain was a mandatory subscription . Thank you for your in depth lessons. Not only have you expanded my song list but learned to play the songs more accurately .Ive seen a lot of YT lessons and 12FT. Chain is one of the best. Thanks again !
This is definetely the very best tutorial of this iconic 12-string song off all time !! So much Respect As a guge Supertramp Fan .i love this ❤Thank's so much for uploading this 👍
I LOVE that you don't leave "anything out" and nothing to chance! I am working on finishing up the mods I am doing to my Martin 12 string. (Re-fret, abalone markers, bone nut and bridge, etc.). Can't wait to play this. NEW SUB! Thank you so much!
Yeah, glad you heard F in outro- a hint of blues. Thought I was crazy, then you said it, whew. I love that you fret 1 note with bunch open and get excited for the sound. I guess I need a 12 st., damn G.A.S. Ü ♫
Perfect. My 2 cents, which long ago started depreciating....go get a six string acoustic with some character that you like and keep all 12 strings on that one You're in Nashville for God's sake brother. Love
I love this! Thanks so much for this lesson. It’s probably the best all-around lesson I’ve seen for the song, which I’ve been playing since I was in high school, maybe even Jr high in the late 70s. I have a Taylor 12 string, and this song sounds glorious on that guitar. Thank you for the super complete overall lesson on all of the chords in the song. It really is a gorgeous song, and this is the best lesson I’ve found for it. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this! I used to have a great tab to this song, and I lost it (arggghhhh!!!!). The lost tab included the subtleties and variants in it that really complete the song (eg - the "dreamy chord"). I had never found a tutorial or tab that includes those great nuances, until yours! Can't thank you enough.
You and I have been on the same wavelength! I re-learned this song last week using the available tabs on line and listening to the record but nailing the outro was eluding me. Thanks to you, I now have it complete! Awesome job as always.
The pace you teach at is perfect. Often, I feel like I'm in the wrong classroom. No offence to less capable players, but it can be annoying having very basic concepts (or skills) being shown over and over.
Great lesson, and I agree, this is the prototypical 12 string song. Funny, it seems like 12 strings sound great with songs in D. I've read some notes taken during the recording of this song, and the amount of doubling/tripling on the guitar parts is staggering. Lots of 12 electrics and acoustics, all playing the same parts.
You are t-t-t-talkin' about my g-g-g-generation baby. Good video. Thanks. So, even though I have been playing for 4.5 decades I always pick up a little something that I have been playing wrong for 45 years. Ya know? Thank you. Oh, by the way, this track was recorded at the Caribou Ranch in Colorado. Think Elton John, Chicago, etc.
Regarding the strumming pattern : love how you don't do the "one and a twoie, and a" stuff that we can't follow anyway, and just get on with it. Leave that to Justin (who's actually great too) 😁😉🤣 Awesome 12-string sound, lovely to hear.
Get a nice Gibson or Taylor or Martin!!! There are so many great American acoustic guitars! Or get a good used acoustic! If you want to go budget: I just bought a Enya NOVA Go SP1 Carbon Fiber Acoustic Electric Guitar, they have special as well as Amazon for $229. Or get a Yamaha FG800 list at $229 but it goes on sale or a Yamaha F335 for under $200 - Solid beginner guitars. Or from Canada an Art & Lutherie which are a great value. There are so many great acoustic guitars out there that there is no reason a professional guitarist like yourself doesn’t have a good acoustic guitar.
Love the ascending A7 with open strings - that's the song. Thanks for that - great lesson to a great ( they have many ) Supertramp song. Is twelve strings guitar tough to play? and fiddly to tune? I'm a six-string acoustic and electric player. Love your lessons. Cool descriptions - the Bmin thing 🤣🤣🤣
Excellent lesson for me - and thanks! Never thought of covering this before, but sure will now, despite lacking a 12-string. Maybe with some extra chorus it’ll sound halfway decent.
thank you for this, sounds great! just one thing at 8:22 you go from a G to a Bm. I think it should be a G to a variation D/G chord... First string is on the F# note, second string is on the D note, 3rd and 4th are open and the 5th string is not played, the 6th string is the G note. The 6th string is played with the thumb. Not sure what the chord name is .
I love the sound of my 12 string. I don't get why anyone take any strings off a 12 🤷♂️ I have mine tuned in E flat and play it with the capo on the 1st fret. I saw a video about the tension of all that wire has on the guitar. Also, I have an electric 12 string acoustic and I play this song with a little reverb. It sounds great.
Great 12string tune from Supertramp...Thank😎👍 Which altered tuning do you prefer for Pink Floyd's "Fearless"? And do you prefer to play it on a acoustic 12string or 6? Dan Folgerbergs "Phoenix" is a fun one on 12string D, A, D G, B, D...😉😎👍 😎✌👍❤🖖
Is that one of those ones a decent 12 string or one of the ones they talk about when you put it away you need to tune it down or put a capo on it? I hear about the high maintenance of certain cheap 12 strings?
Just a question. What version of the song are you playing for this tutorial? I’m looking for the version that is played on the record “Even In The Quietest Moments”. The strumming pattern on there is different from your version I think. Hence my question.
This is not the right place to bring this up but I have gotten delegated of of the patron page if you could let me know where to get a hold of the right area for this item be great thanks. Brad
Like I say at the beginning, all my vids have chapters in them so you can go right to the part of the lesson you want to see and bypass what you don't.
When he says it - it’s so simple. That’s what good teachers do. The explanation of the chords around 12:00 is so good and valuable.

Terrific lesson on a great song! The only suggestion would be to play the whole song through at the beginning or end to put it all together.
That Yamaha - 12 nails it. Always thought, since it was released, that Jon Anderson (Yes) could have covered it well.
Very helpful
Long time when I was teen..., but next week my birthday gift, a nice Martin guitar wil make me very happy...
I feel like a teen again.

Thank you for the detail you put into these songs. This has always been a fun one to play on a 12 string

Hah that's funny cos he held my attention for 2 chords then he started talking again... zzzz bye bye
@Robil63 Maybe you need to be in a less advanced class?
You are not in the wrong classroom, this is a video so just jump into the parts that you are stuck in and take it from there.
@@pedrodiaz5540 I don't recall saying there were "parts that I am stuck on," or that (in the case of this video) that I'm in the wrong classroom.
Thank You. This has been the best lesson of this song I've encountered, and I can play it now without any nagging doubts. Cheers!
Thank you very much ! Just what I needed. And yesss ! I learned something new indeed.

Yeah thats a great acoustic song. Sounds killer on a 12 string for sure. Excellent job on breaking down all the chords. Great job 👍

Such a great song, the ending progression is absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing and a fine job Sir!

Great lesson and attention to detail.
Amazing lesson as always- would love to see beast of burden - never heard the lead done properly and it’s got to be one of the nicest guitar parts
Fantastic lesson. Thank you
Actually it is a Clavinet D6 through a Leslie played by Rick Davies. Thank you for the lesson. Excellent!

Excellent lesson. I was close on some and way off on some other chords. Thanks.

I have some issues with Patreon right now!! I'll be in touch. Nice Lesson!!
I was able to change my payment method so I could continue on Patreon, so maybe that's the correct direction? (maybe?)
Love this song. Had most of it correct, i learned a few things! Ty🎉
Excellent and masterful

Great ! so cool ! not so simple ...nevertheless ! but it's practical , logical , magical . .... you look like Rick Davies ! THANKS !
The other instrument that comes in during the second climb is a clavinet through a Leslie.
Nice.
Just a question. What version of the song are you playing for this tutorial? I’m looking for the version that is played on the record “Even In The Quietest Moments”. The strumming pattern on there is different from your version I think. Hence my question.
Thought I was going off the same. It's possible there's some strumming nuances different in places that differ from mine

Get yourself a BREEDLOVE 6 String Acoustic!!
Wait... With your amazing guitar collection, you don't own an acoustic 6?
Goo goo dolls did an awesome version
I always thought if you didn't keep all the strings on it wasn't good for the instrument - Guess I was wrong!
You are a great player, get a six string acoustic. There are so many great cheap six strings out there.
The Beatles very rarely if never used a 12 stringer. Why do you sell one with the Beatles brand?
Wtf are you on about? George Harrison used it as early as 1964 on The Beatles' album A Hard Day's Night and many subsequent recordings.
