She deserves a good running 351 or Ford big block. Such a beautiful Fairlane. My dad's Victoria was a '56. We replaced the 292 with a good running 302.
With a 302 and 5 spd , power disc brakes , electric wipers and under dash ac you could enjoy this with your family with confidence and pride , mine has a 406 , 4 spd , and a 9 inch rear . Pdb, electric wipers, under dash ac , we love driving it everywhere , anytime.
My first car in 1973 was a 2 door wagon Ford ranch wagon. My second was a 1956 Ford customline 6yl 4 door .Bought from orig.owners for $150 drove for 20 yrs. sold in1993 1993 $150, with 500k miles .. Paint fell off .interior wore out, but served me well ! Orig motor ,and manual transmission! Valve job, 4 clutches, and a radiator and 1 water pump.
I wish all of the mechanical fuel pumps were rebuildable. My dad had a couple of these, his first car was a 56 2 door ranch wagon? I forgot what the 2 door wagon was called, then he bought a 56 2 door club sedan he drove daily from like 71-87, sold it to my cousin who drove it until the 2000's. That car was/is in Yakima and has been apparently totally restored by the person my cousin sold it to and last I heard has a 390 and C6 in it now. The 2 door club sedan he had built a 57 spec 312 and put a toploader 4 speed in from a 66 galaxie and a 9 inch rear from a 57 Ford out of the junkyard. That one was blue and white, the wagon was green. I feel like these 55-57 Ford's are very under appreciated and hardly see them at car shows. My moms first car was a black 57 Ford with a 312 in it.

@@FullSizeFord Yeah his wagon had windows, have a picture of it somewhere. He also had a 58 F100 short bed he shoved a medium riser 427 into with a top loader 4 speed. It lifted the tires off the ground once on accident. After that summer he put a gt390 and C6 in and drove it quite a few years until selling it around 1980.
Well... not all maiden voyages go as planned! LOL The wheels look great! Nice choice! If that's a 272, yeah they are not a real powerhouse. Imagine the 2bbl feeding it, it looks like it belongs on a lawnmower just choking it down.. I'm not 100% sure, but i think Pertronix makes a Mr. Igniter for the Y-block, that would be the ticket for the ignition system. I'm with yah on the distributor location... in the rear sucks! Is this thing still 6V? If so, man... convert it to 12v, you won't be sorry!
I had a 55 in high school had to carry a 12 volt battery and jumper cables in the trunk. I had a 63 I wrecked so I had to have something to drive while I was repairing it.
Was "Squirrel" with "Moose"? I wonder if anyone under the age of 50 would get that. Anyway, nice car! My last '55 Ford came out of the woods and needed a ton more work than I wanted to do. Looking forward to seeing the progression.

After converting it to 12 vo.t put a 56 elect wiper motor in it . Y blocks are junk . Put an FE motor in it for all the reliability you will ever need , and power disc brakes .

High School auto shop class. They had a Dodge slant 6 car. We did work on. rebuilding The fuel pump was an easy lesson. Starter? not so much.

You really should invest in a good strong battery jump pack.
