Fuck me. That note she hits at 5:48 brought me to tears. So, so good. Loved her from the moment I heard that astonishing voice. Bandstand, for fucks sake, shows you how old I am. XX
I found this clip yesterday, the day Renee passed, looking for an appropriate song to post with my FB tribute. I have never seen this one before and it just blew me away. It was only after a couple of viewings (ok, maybe several more) that it occurred to me that right there on stage are 3 giants of Australian popular music who are no longer with us. Renee of course, Ross Hannaford and sitting at the back on drums Paul Hester. Is there a line somewhere about the music that's made in heaven? Well maybe this is what it sounds like!
So Heartbroken about Renee's passing today 1/16/2023 I was so Blessed getting to hear her @ a young age in the States. I became an instant fan. And Always will be 💜
@@suzio6571 this truly deserves global views, im guessing most of the 49k views are aussies and kiwis who were familiar with renee from back in the days ? *although people in the sampling/crate digging game from all over the planet are familiar with her and her band, but they generally have an encyclopedic knowledge of most soul, jazz, funk, rock breaks orientated music from every little nook and cranny on this planet lol
@@suzio6571 oh and seeing as my last comment was made a year ago, the view content has obviously grown substantially in the last 12 months, might have gained some viral view counts in certain communities in that time ???
ross played at the camberwell market my mum was in a nursing home nearby i took her out to the market she was blind but could hear and feel the music that ross played she danced and got into the grouve it gave her joy
Saw her live in Wollongong about ten years ago and was absolutely stunned at her and her bands quality. I knew she was good but live she was sensational. I went out and bought a few of her cd’s. She is much better performing on the stage. Great band.
Oh boy, this is a fantastic performance! I heard her song Foggy Highway while watching the movie Still Breathing this evening, and said who is that singing such a beautiful, haunting song? I looked her up afterwards, and found this amazing performance. I live in the US, and haven't heard of her, unfortunately, but I am definitely going to be looking for more of her music. I read in the comments that she passed earlier this year, my condolences.
I stumbled upon this video whilst searching for another of Renee Geyer's songs "Why Can't We Live Together". This is gold! I'll be looking up all of her vids, she is an Australian icon, and I agree with the last post that she IS underrated !
Always thought of her as our best female singer. Nothing's changed. Elton John once named her as his favourite. Should've been better promoted around the world. She was 'headed in the right direction' just didn't get to the top of the hill that she could have climbed. R.I.P. Renee.
18th Jan 2023 RIP Beautiful lady, so talented who sang about love, lost & found, her voice has comforted many a heart break. Australia's Queen of music. thank you shine bright for eternity.
Renee Geyer..RIP...(11 Sep.1953 -Jan.17 2023) .Saw you at an Adelaide concert..Oh! what a blast! Great backing always with Renee...Robert from Adelaide in South Australia 🥰🙏
Renee,you are amazing,deserved so many more accolades,brilliant voice,following you since I was a little girl,Ross Hannaford,so talented,Paul Hester on drums?Best version of this song.
Sublime...What an incredible voice..Perfection!!. A wonderful musical marriage between singer and guitar...Wish I had seen them live...Miss her...Australia's best female singer..The powers that be just didn't know it..
RIP Hanna Such a talent and one of my all time favourite guitar players. Feel, Soul... just the real deal and everything a musician should be... brought me so much joy... a very sad day... I hope Ross and Paul will be jammin' somewhere real soon... huge, huge loss...
Takes me back to one of her early gigs at Melbourne University where I’m sure over half the audience was on LSD. Wouldn’t be surprised if she was too given the chills she sent down our collective spines.
I came back again. I still love her voice, even after her hotel episode. I love the voice...I love the guitar ...I love the swing... I love that beat... I love the lack of oooh and ahhhs...I love the silence ...the space... i'll probably be back again
he used to play weekly residency at the esplanade hotel on monday nights (in a ban called dianas kiss if im not mistaken) for a couple of years, i was there religiously of course. they didnt have a set playlist and would venture into soul, blues, reggae and psychedelic without warning, was always a %100 and they clearly loved what they were doing no matter what the audience reaction was. there was also random impromtue vocalists making appearances etc such as ross wilson etc which made things interesting, seeing legends perform on sticky carpet just a metre or two away from where your sitting. *odd bit of trivia i didnt find out until years later was that my dad apparently played in a church band with him as a nobody bass player lol, he was a big player in the early australian rock and roll industry though despite his musical short comings
This is a terrific clip. Thank you for posting, James. So many memories watching the late, great Ross Hannaford. I remember the first time I saw him way back in the early 70s looking like an oversized Buddy Holly with his horn rims, bobbing and jiving to the Eagle Rock when he was driving force behind Daddy Cool. Love his solo here.
One of the best soul singers in this world, lucky to have seen her a number of times, will miss you Renee wanted to go to your tourthis year but alas love you x
Yes Renee what a star she was - no one seems to have noticed the monster guitar player with her - the unique, incomparable Ross Hannaford - Australias top guitar player bar none imho and sadly also gone to the big jam session..
Renee is the referred to as the Ms Soul. The that makes Mr Parkinson,. Those who don’t know who I’m referring to, is the late Doug Parkinson. His place in Australian music is secured 💜
Fuck me. That note she hits at 5:48 brought me to tears. So, so good. Loved her from the moment I heard that astonishing voice. Bandstand, for fucks sake, shows you how old I am. XX
Fock me back. Let't start this party proper at 1:28 ... hang around a while .. and fockin wait for it.. at 5:48. fock me too
R.I.P. to one of Australia's most iconic female vocalists 1953-2023
Paul Hester on drums.. Crowded houses drummer who suicided after crowded house slit..
She passed ?
@@armchairwomanmao2922 Yes sadly her time came to pass recently.. RIP
And to Paul Hester, drums

Renee Geyer, Australia’s most under appreciated singer, I’ve seen her live a few times and always get the chills.
She isnt under apreciated. I have seen her perform many times since she was 16. Its always a big audience.
No difference than Steve Kilby🤔
Absolutely.
Could not agree more. A fabulous talent. Once regarded as the “blackest”white voice

No, it says 49k views, BUT, less than 100 comments... THAT, I find hard to believe. She was awesome!!!
