    I've had mine for a year now also. More than enough snow here in PA this year and it practically rains everyday here. Only thing I've had to do is readjust the tension rods in the fall and again in the spring along with treating the gaskets and locks. Just good maintenance as far as I'm concerned. Best thing I've ever bought for my truck!

      Same here . I tell everybody that it’s the best thing I bought for my truck. A few days ago had a friend want to see if it really was as good as advertised. He was surprised when I opened the tailgate and it was dry as a bone. That was after a week of rain. Thanks!

      @@useful.knowledge Thanks for your video of the Diamondback HD! I am just about sold on this cover as being one of the most secure. I do see a potential flaw that looks like it could easily be exploited. It looks as if all someone would need to do is remove 4 hinge screws and a cover could be removed with a slight twist from the hinge side. It would be cool if someone could verify this as it looks like this would be pretty easy to do. The alternative cover I am looking at is the Renegade cover which is similar but does not have hinge screws that can be removed. What is your opinion on this? Thx.

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  2 роки тому

      I see your point and I think someone else pointed that out. I think it would take more force than folks realize to get the cover up because the anchor point for the lock is toward the back or front and then the edge of the cover is across the front of the bed or tailgate. My thoughts are if someone is prepared with a proper Allen wrench and has the time to remove the hinges, they could probably get in. With that said, the simple opportune thief will not get in it.

      Hi. Congrats!! With all of the storms and close 10” of rain that we’ve had in Alabama over the last two weeks, I still don’t have a drop on rain in my truck bed. I can’t remember if I talked about it in the video but they want you to adjust the locking mechanism in the front and back to where you almost have to have some help to press down the top (front and back). You then let it set for a day or two without opening it. Then you’re good to go. Enjoy it!

    I'm assuming you can't use a gooseneck or does it have a way to move, open or slide to do so?

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, that is a drawback. You can remove that entire top in about 15 minutes but it takes about 30 minutes to get it back on. If you towed a gooseneck or 5th wheel a lot, it would be a pain to remove and put it back on. I towed a 5th wheel camper for 10 years but didn’t have a bed cover.

    How heavy is this cover? Is 2 people needed to unload it from the delivery truck?

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  Рік тому

      Hi. Yes, the whole package delivered, you’ll need two people. They shipped mine to a local facility and I had to go over there with a small trailer. They loaded it with a fork lift. I unloaded it at home with my tractor. One person can install it as shown in the video because it only one part at a time.

    Are there any problems going through an automatic car wash with all the cleats catching the car wash wiper/spinner parts? Trying to decide between Diamondback and Renegade. Renegade has tracks you can put tie downs in and move ‘em wherever. Diamondback has a bunch of fixed position cleats. Any thoughts?

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  2 роки тому +2

      Hi. The cleats are really strong on the Diamondback. I’ve used them several times for anchoring straps for lumber and even a refrigerator. I don’t think the washer spinner would knock them off. They have screws anchoring them into the cover. I haven’t really check out the Renegade. I can tell you that I still have the Diamondback in the video and still love it.

    • @teamcrooks6913

      @@useful.knowledge No doubt. I was more concerned with phuking up the car wash by catching their brushes as I rolled through! Probably going to buy a DiamondbackHD without cleats and add on some HD tracks that I can move the tie down points around or even take them off for a lower profile.

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  2 роки тому +2

      I just walked by my truck and took a look. The cleats are on with Allen screws. I also noticed that you can order to cover with cleats uninstalled. I don’t remember that being an option 2 years ago. About 6 months ago, I traded in the truck in the video for a new Ram 2500. I kept the Diamondback HD and moved the whole thing over in an an hour. You’ll love the cover.

    Why don’t they use carriage bolts on the hinges so someone can’t take the hinges off to break in? Seems like an easy swap. Wondering why they didn’t design them that way.

    • @markfisher1392
      @markfisher1392 Рік тому +5

      They use flat washers and lock nuts on the inside of the bed, so unless you can get inside and get a wrench on the lock nuts, the screws will just spin.

  • @carperdiem8754

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  2 роки тому +2

      Hi. You can remove it in about 5 minutes. It’s only on with 4 bolts. If you use your 5th wheel hitch a lot, it would probably be a pain to take it off and back on.

    • @useful.knowledge

      Hi. The whole thing comes off in 5 minutes. It takes about 10-20 minutes to put it back on

    • @mczuza76
      @mczuza76 Рік тому

      You are essentially screwed man. I had one, loved it, only “major” downfall is bed accessibility. Had to haul a fridge from Home Depot. You either take cover off, or haul on top which it is more than capable to carry. However, have fun getting it up and down from there. I had a tractor no worries, but not all who own these are that fortunate. As I said bed accessibility is a downfall, forget about a fifth wheel or gooseneck. You pretty much have to take the whole thing off. I feel it’s only legit purpose is for hauling crap like 4wheeler on top, which I did successfully. If you aren’t buying it for that, get a retrax pro cover. I sold my truck with the diamondback on it. Just be aware if you buy a diamondback there are some significant disadvantages. Just ordered my retrax pro for my new truck, I think this is the more versatile cover.

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  Рік тому +1

      Well I love my diamond back cover. I don’t feel screwed over at all. It’s been on for 3 years with no leaks and it’s solid. All of my tools and gear have been completely dry for those 3 years. I moved the whole thing to a new truck in 30 minutes. I have a tractor with forks but I didn’t need it because it comes apart in three pieces. I’ve brought home a fridge and freezer from Home Depot. We just laid them down on top and strapped them down. I set them upright for a few hours and they’re fine. The cover is tough which makes me wonder what will happen when one the Retrax panel gets dented and won’t retract properly.

      Hi. No shims. It’s just sitting on the bed rail cover. That’s where it’s bolted to the truck so it probably does seem to sit a little higher than the panels. They are so close that I don’t notice it. It’s a great bed cover and I’m not sponsored by Diamondback.

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  Рік тому

      Hi. I had to push down slightly to get it to close and lock. If the rod is hitting, it just needs a slight adjustment with the two small bolts where they slide up and down on the adjustment slotted metal piece. I had to adjust my back right slide rod about a month ago.

    • @mikegrguras9825
      @mikegrguras9825 Рік тому +1

      @useful.knowledge thanks! Yea I figured I could make that adjustment I just don't want my cover on that side too loose and not seem secure. I know all the instructions show to push down with pressure but seems to make it difficult to close the can panel.

    • @useful.knowledge

      Hi. Yes, basically you pop off the piston shocks, remove the front and back panels, and remove the center (4 bolts). The front and back panels both come right off when they are raised of to about 90 deg. About a 5-10 minute job. I just traded trucks and moved it to my new truck. It went on in about 30 minutes.
