Just a suggestion, if you hold the nozzle farther away, around 6-8 inches away from the emblems it will end up having a more even texture and wont spray so blotchy. Also, if you apply 2-3 coats it will be easier to peel and will last longer. Great video!
I put plasti dip and glossifier on my 2011 Grand Cherokee emblems and it lasted 2 years. It was easy to do and the results are pretty good. A toothpick and tweezers are a safer option for removing the hard to reach places though.
Thank you for posting this video that shows the process from a novice perspective. I am planning on doing my RAV4 emblems and have been watching video after video in order to be prepared. They all of course make it look so easy because they have done it so many times.
Might want to try a wooden toothpick instead of a metal screwdriver - just FYI. The wood is less harmful to your paint. Overall - pasti dip is awesome for quick DIY projects, emblems, wheels, etc... Plus, if you don't like it - you can just peel it off and the underlying surface is unharmed!
Grab a power drill. Crank the torque right up. Set the speed to high and insert the biggest drill bit you can find. That should do it....your welcome youtubers
@@bestredditclips6508 I did but that was 7 years ago. I recently blacked out the emblems, roof rack and stock wheels on my 2017 4Runner and it came out awesome!
Nice dude! I did the same to my 2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Mine is burgundy, and I blacked out my Grille, all of my emblems, and my rims with black plasti dip. I didn't peel off the inside of the letters that gave it a cool look too. BUT! nice bro Black & White always looks clean!
wow that is crazy we have a 2007 Grand Cherokee same color that looks just like that and has had all the emblems done by a previous owner. just like he showed plus the grill done and Plasti Dip I'm thinking about removing it soon because it is starting to peel off and I like the Chrome look better
An alternative would be to buy the black Jeep logo from mopar.... $38.00. use goo gone to saturate the 3M tape behind the jeep logo then use some tough fishing line and saw behind the jeep lettering. Pops off pretty easy. Clean the area to get all 3M off and apply black logo. Looks better and permanent.
I think some hobby shops have small steel brushes for intricate work like getting Plasti Dip off clear coat. You should look into it. Don't think you can dull them on the cement first but if you just buy some portland at Home Depot you can just rub it into the emblem first and then you get the same effect. Good Luck!
Actually they suggest use a screw driver as long as you don't touch your paint. Use the screwdriver to pull the plasti dip back. If your uncomfortable use a toothpick
Should have just used an Xacto knife to get the insides of the letters out, would have come out a lot cleaner as well. You can still pick one up, if you don't have one already, and clean up the insides of the letters a bit with it no problem. Nice job it looks good. I did my badges on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 and after I plasti dipped them I then used a Dupi-Color clear coat in order to get a nice gloss finish to them, just a little tip if you want to maybe go with a gloss finish instead of a matte finish.
A pair of plastic tweezers may or may not ( trial and error) help with the removal of the paint in between and inside the letters. Don't know for sure, but it might be worth a try. It looks good to me. Thanks for the idea.
Actually he has a point other than it just working. A screwdriver is harder than the clear coat meaning you will scratch the paint if it makes contact with the car. A toothpick will not no matter how hard you push it into the clear coat.
SO HOW MANY CAR WASH'S CAN / HAVE U BEEN THREW SO FAR W/ THAT DONE..... N HOW HAS IT LASTED SO FAR..... N WHAT ABOUT THE SUMMER HEAT N THE WINTER'S VERY COLD N THE WASHES IN BETWEEN.... IS IT STILL THERE.... N CAN WE ALL SEE SO FAR.......
Okay, now you take either a metal ice scraper, or one of those metal pokers for a fireplace, to get the excess off of your car and if any of it won't come off, just grab some 180 grit sandpaper and sand it off of the car and you're good to go!
I did this today with my Jeep Grand Cherokee . but i must have done it wrong... When i peeled the Plasti Dip it took the Dip right off the Jeep Logo.. So i just ripped it all off i failed lol.
Just a suggestion, if you hold the nozzle farther away, around 6-8 inches away from the emblems it will end up having a more even texture and wont spray so blotchy. Also, if you apply 2-3 coats it will be easier to peel and will last longer. Great video!
Nothing beats a flatbread screwdriver
Im crackin up😂
Dead af! 😭
Dead
You are incorrect. A flatbread tequila sunrise wins every time.
sic615 have you had flatbread screwdriver pizza before? Screws with my stomach every time.

You should have used a tooth pick so you don't scratch your paint up.
walter erbenich i
It's a jeep just throw a little mud on it

I agree toothpick
😂 I was thinking anything but metal.
Is this Walt Jr from breaking bad?!! Ahhahaha
Hahaha
Damn, I just spit coffee all over my keyboard. That was hilarious!
Dead AF 😂😂😂😂
I THOUGHT THE SAME THING. HAD TO SEE IF SOMEONE ELSE DID!!
I'd recommend a tooth pick over a screw driver.
Yeah when I heard him say screwdriver I was like oh crap!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Been wanting to black out my 2014 white Jeep Compass and couldn't figure out an easy way to do the emblems.
I would suggest using a wood/plastic toothpick, or a zip tie, or a pen's plastic cover... something that may not scratch the paint...
Grab a power drill. Crank the torque right up. Set the speed to high and insert the biggest drill bit you can find.
That should do it....your welcome youtubers
U kno somebody gonna e dumb enough n try ur suggestion 😂😂
@@luisurbina2236 Right lmao
To think that I was going to pay $13 per emblem on Amazon. Thanks for posting this video. I'll be working on my Jeep this weekend =)
Did you ever work on your jeep?
@@bestredditclips6508 I did but that was 7 years ago. I recently blacked out the emblems, roof rack and stock wheels on my 2017 4Runner and it came out awesome!
Does the Flatbread leave those crummy scratches? i know my Philips-bread left a trail of crummy scratches every time i used it
Zachary Redmon lmao.
the extinct animal tells me i done fucked up? it was a joke.
Sounds like sponge bob's boots when you were removing haha. Nice video man!

For the Inside toothpicks work very good too

Here from Instagram and man that turned out good!
Sounded like he said flat bread screwdriver lol
+hempwolf lmfao so dirty
Jeep vs cmaro
Tips: Heat the bottle in warm water to avoid the big drips when painting
djalili karim i noticed that as well when he started spraying it. Didnt warm it up a bit.
Learning from someone who doesn’t know what they are doing great idea lol 😂
ouchhh the noise of scratching the paint !!
your youtube name should be GetScratchingJeeps

How do you make the plastic stick
For realz! I was like screwdriver?? LMAO
i use a dremel to get the pieces out from the middle of the emblems
I used a sawzall
worked great
Walt Ent dang, I used a pick axe, it really let’s you get in those creases good
Ya always a tooth pick. Or plastic. Great Vic bro. But the wind chimes sold me.
How did you get the paint to only peel off around the letters ?
Wow, I wouldn't think it work that well. Thanks man!
Just buy black letters for it easy to change just fishing string
Actually they suggest use a screw driver as long as you don't touch your paint. Use the screwdriver to pull the plasti dip back. If your uncomfortable use a toothpick
just use a toothpick for the small edges. Idk why they say use a screwdriver and risk scratching your car

What's that black tape called that you used to put around the emblem ?
He used masking(blue) tape the black "tape" is the over spray of plastidip
How many coats did you put?
Looks great, I'm doing rhino liner on my zj emblems looks good
Very relaxing background noise
Just wanted to know if the screwdriver scratches the paint.
Screwdriver part scares me. Don't want to mess up my paint job. Do I have to worry about the plasti dip coming off in weather or wash?
Did you only apply one coat?
what spray name? or similar sprays?
I'm with you on the screwdriver....you could hear the scrapping. Looks good though.
JEEP is such a funny word when you think about it :) Jeeep lolol
A pair of plastic tweezers may or may not ( trial and error) help with the removal of the paint in between and inside the letters. Don't know for sure, but it might be worth a try. It looks good to me. Thanks for the idea.
Seeing you scratch up your paint with a screwdriver made me physically cringe
How many coats did you use and how long did you let it dry before pulling off. It looks good I want to try this
Jeff Adkins 4-5 coats, about 15 minutes of dry time. go check out "dipyourcar" on UA-cam
At least you're working on it during the morning (sounds of chirping birds)
One thing I found out about plastidip is that you have to shake the crap out of the can prior to spray. In order to not get lumps
Are you from Laredo?
if you pull the tape up on your last coat of dip it wont pull up like that it will make is so its not trying to rip it off all at once
Why, I love the chrome.
you should've put the can in warm water, it came out good but you would have seen better results cause that made it come out thick.
What happened to light coats??
So how does it stick to the emblem but not the Jeep?
O Brasil agradece pelo vídeo.
dang, I used a pick axe, it really let’s you get in those letter creases good
last time i drove by a highskool parking lot... LOLOL never in my life have i seen so many shit plastidip jobs in 1 parking lot
How about using some wooden skewers for kabobs? Basically a huge toothpick and won’t scratch paint lol.
I love the music track! What is that track called?
Summer Chimes
Its been 7 years. Probably not using flathead metal and scratching paint. Hopefully....👍👍
How many cans did you use to do all of the emblems?
You'll only need one can
Actually he has a point other than it just working. A screwdriver is harder than the clear coat meaning you will scratch the paint if it makes contact with the car. A toothpick will not no matter how hard you push it into the clear coat.
wait so does the paint not stick to the car? It only sticks to the emblem? Just wanna make sure before I paint my car and it doesn’t come off lol
How long did it last ?
What do you call the blue tape he was using?
Miguel Laoyan painter's tape
Dick tape
+Joe Cisneros Hahahahahahahahahaha :)
+Miguel Laoyan meskin tape o_o

how does it look after the car wash?
how many coats should you do
Doesnt jeep laredos already have black emblems?
how did it not pull it off the letters?
+NewShockerGuy lisp magic
For anyone that wants to try this use are toothpick for the inside letters.
Not bad dude.!! I gone fix my window trim I not sure it work
When you where ripping it off, why wasn't it coming off the letters?
ThunderMCR plasti dip is basically rubber in a can. So when you pull it around edges itll rip clean off the edge without harming the emblem
You only used 1 coat?
That scraping noise :/
I like the windchimes
Nice work bud!
Use a toothpick!!! it's alot more forgiving on your paint.
SCREWDRIVER?!! Haven't EVER seen anyone hitting the paint with a screwdriver that hard !! O.o
Well done mate
WOW!!, Cooool!!...can't wait 2 try t on mine!!....gracias much amigo!!.
what happened to toothpicks?
I did this today with my Jeep Grand Cherokee . but i must have done it wrong... When i peeled the Plasti Dip it took the Dip right off the Jeep Logo.. So i just ripped it all off i failed lol.
Lmfaoooooo sucks
You forgot to clean the Emblem or the letters :)
Its dirt or greasy so the plasti dip didnt hold ;)
thats why yourr supposed to use multiple layers
camocorndog lmaooo my luck
How come the letters don't come off?
Looks great! Just like paint
How durable is this?
Go check out dip my car.
How well does this stuff last before it starts looking like shit?
wouldnt a screw driver scratch your car?
Milwaukee demolition hammer 2200 bpm that's what this tool is made for.
You propably better use a toothpick or somehting softer ... so you won't scratch the paint.
chisel and hammer is best!
wind chimes. nice job
Dude, Its called a tooth pick
OMG do NOT use a screwdriver for the last step! Use a small plastic scraper unless you enjoy damaging your clearcoat permanently.
Use a toothpick to remove the smaller bits. Not a damn screwdriver.
Either or just if you use a screw driver you have to be careful
Can you go through a car wash without the plastidip coming off?
+Nastyboymiller It won't come off
leave it for 72 hours or even a week before washing it, when its fresh.
