- Adam Savage's newest spacesuit replica project is the NASA Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES)! Known as the "pumpkin suit", this iconic orange pressure suit was worn by Space Shuttle astronauts since 1994. Adam's replica is finally complete and ready for its first test fitting!

Yep. High-quality, face-concealing spacesuit costume is what gives him away, I don't think the name tag would change much.
I just love the detail of the Weyland Megacorp patch.
My son loves these, being stuck in quarantine is rough. Ordered some learning books, UA-cam , this is next best thing, while we wait

She was busy with brain surgery.
Since she's been back she must have been around for a few, she yelled something off screen in the last one day build.
That's why I say this: She's got shop omnipresence.
I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that she has some semi-normal 9-5ish at Adam's workshop/tested. I remember hearing her new workshop is in the same general neighborhood as his.
I saw her and i thought "cool :D there she is".
The helmet is a complex beast. I built one a similar SR71 helmet as a shoot prop. Went through the same hand build process because they are surprisingly mechanically complex.

Adam's expression when he turns the cooling system on is reminiscent of someone who is peeing while swimming in the ocean.

Seems like Norm is always Adam's Squire (In Medieval Times they would travel with knights to help with putting on the suit of armor) whenever he's at CONS.

This is the most impressive replica so far, love the chewy but this has to have a lot more function and practicality, and it feels so real, you're ready for space

You can also pre-chill the ice water in different ice, so that it is already cold when it hits the ice in the bag!
That water system is So awesome. I have a camel back when i go hunting, but that system keeps your whole upper body cool.
So badass man, I watched the making of the helmet, I can only imagine how complex the suit was to make.

After seeing the Alan Eustace's suit, I was wondering if you were thinking about a breathing mask to vent CO2 and Moisture from your breath out of your space suits/full body costumes?
wouldn't be accurate to the aces but if you vented your breath through sodium bicarbonate or other moisture scrubbers that might help with some of the issues these costumes cause. But allot of the time adam is trying to hide that he is adam soooo Fogged up visors are a good thing.
also put very, very cold water in there. Tap water will melt the ice quickly as it's a LOT hotter than the ice. Put pre-chilled (like slush almost)

A big block would help for sure, you could also pre-chill the water too to increase the lifetime of the ice

You should make a very basic costume and replicate like 20 times. Film yourself making one of them with little clues to which one is the one you'll be wearing but without saying. get 19 other volunteers to wear the other costumes. Give a few clues and wait for someone to find you
Please check with the supplier of the cooling system but, you can try mixing the water with glycol, put that in the freezer, to get it below 0 Celsius. And add that to the ice cubes. Be careful not to get yourself too cold.
I am thinking a couple of quick connects for the switch, with a segment attached inside the suit with the matching connectors in the back and at the wrist. Great build! And Hi Simone!
I knew it was going to be a space suit when you showed a picture of the pulleys that attach to the cable around the neck ring, although I associated them with pre-Apollo space suits (like Gemini), I didn't know it was also used in the Space Shuttle suit. Cool build!

Please do do a thermal imaging of that cooling vest combo, it'll be real good to 'see' it in action.
The cooling backpack would be great for Halo Spartan cosplays since the chest armor has that good empty space inside to fit inside.

Tfw Adam says something is "reasonably priced" but it's still 200 bucks...
Though tbh this example is something I'd be willing to spring for if I needed to. Seriously, you can never say this enough: *full body costumes are hot no matter what* so I'd rather be $200 poorer than in the hospital with heat exhaustion.
after almost passing out on a flight of stairs from heat exhaustion...gotta agree with you there.
@Adam Savage @tested Why don't you just add a peltier cooling device with a thermocouple on a water cooling block with a radiator (Basically a computer liquid cooling kit but add a peltier). run an arduino to keep it in the sweet spot. Just power it with a LiPo or something. and now you have a liquid cooled garment that will keep the water at a certain temperature with power*
If you want to do some more research, I am really interested in Liquid Cooled Garments! Nasa has a lot of info out there about them!
The peltier device is inefficient, but when its in the correct range and keeping homeostasis it's a little more efficient!

Very cool suit Adam! As a long term TESTED viewer and a first time Comic Con visitor at the NYCC2018 I was hoping I would spot something I thought would be you. But I was there only thursday and friday. And I did not see that cool cosplay. Then I had to fly back to Norway. Maybe next time! Looking forward to the build video!

I have that cooling system, you have to balance time vs your ice systems, bag ice is very cool but you wont get 30+ min out of it block ice gives you more time.

For a bit in the mid 80s i think from 83 to 86 (the Challenger flight) they wore the blue flight suit and just put on the helmet and a like a harness
I expect anyone seeing this much detail in a space suit that watched tested would bee line to him.
Hopefully Adam reads the comments, or at least someone who can relay information to him does, but race car drivers sometimes use things called coolshirts, it might be worth checking that out if he's not already aware of them. It's basically what he's got going on already, but it could be possible to check out the design of them and integrate it in to other costumes and such. Worth checking out, at the very least!
