Florence Puana, the grandmother and fraud victim of convicted former Honolulu deputy prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, died today at age 100.
“She died this morning at about 5 a.m.,” Puana’s attorney, Gerald Kurashima, said. “The family wants to preserve their privacy but they appreciate all the support.”
Puana was a key witness against her granddaughter in the federal conspiracy and obstruction trial, which ended in the conviction of Kealoha and her husband, former Honolulu police chief Louis Kealoha, in June.

Florence lost her civil lawsuit against her granddaughter, Katherine Kealoha. Katherine was a city prosecutor and her husband, Louis, was the Honolulu chief of police. They were convicted of trying to frame Florence’s son, Gerard, of stealing their mailbox. Katherine was convicted of financial crimes against her grandmother and began serving a 13 year federal prison sentence in 2020 and her husband is serving a 7 year sentence. They were both ordered to pay $700,000 restitution to Gerard for trying to frame him and to Florence’s estate. Sadly she passed in Feb 2020, age 100.
@@dbloom2002Katherine didn’t even bother covering her tracks that well since she was the city prosecutor and figured her own department wasn’t going to prosecute her and she was right. She also figured the police wouldn’t investigate her either since her husband was the chief of police and she was right about that too. Luckily, the Feds came after her and she was prosecuted federally. Katherine’s husband even used $25,000 of the stolen money for a lavish reception when he was made the chief of police.

The lawyer granddaughter bullied her grandmother, used legal jargon to intimidate! This should be a crime especially for someone in public service. Punishment should be more bcos the intent is purely evil! Greed!
This actual case is so much more than that! It wasn't about this financial fraud, and the granddaughter ended up getting 13 years.
